I have found this suggest:

http://serverfault.com/questions/531110/var-log-messages-showing-lots-of-ce-err-0x2000-even-on-unused-banks-slots

Add mce=dont_log_ce to grub.conf imply a reboot.

It's possible to stop log message without reboot?

Hi Dario,

I had a similar case in the past.

I had a brand new server that seemed to be running fine. After a
kernel update, I gor lot of error messages in /etc/messages.

That particular kernel update implemented additional error messages
that were related to the motherboard chipset. It appears that new
boards with new chipset run fine with existing kernel.
As soon as kernel updates incorporate special features of these
chipsets, you might get such messages.

I returned the board under warranty. The board manufacturer informed
me that a memory controller was faulty. The board had the hardware
error from the beginning. The new kernel only revealed an already
existing problem.

You may want to check first if the hardware problem comes from memory
or motherboard.

best regards

[CentOS] Copying a live system

2016-05-03 Thread Timothy Murphy
I want to backup my current CentOS-7.2 system to another drive.
Is it safe to copy the system while it is running?
Eg by
mount /dev/sdb5 /mnt
rsync -HPaxvz /. /mnt/
I've found contradictory advice on the web.

Yes. When we're cloning a system, such as a compute node in a cluster, or
rsync upgrading, we
rsync -HPavxz /. newmachine:/new/.
rsync -HPavxz /boot/. newmachine:/boot//new/.

As long as you're not copying /sys or /proc

Oh, I hit before I added several more things:

First, correct the MAC address in
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistant-net.rules (or it might be 60), and in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts for ifcfg-

Second, you'll need a new /etc/ssh/sshd-host-*

If you're getting your name & IP (and IPv6) from DHCP, don't forget to
update the DHPCD server.

Finally, this works if the system is identical hardware. If not, before
you try to boot, boot from linux rescue, then you need to
chroot /mnt/sysimage

cd /lib/modules

VER=$(ls -rt1 | tail -1)
echo $VER

mkinitrd X $VER
mv X /boot/initrd-$VER.img

At that point, you should be good to go.

It depends, the running services should answer ... for a mysqld running system:

Delete the -x option above and add

--exclude /proc --exclude /sys --exclude /mnt --exclude /var/lib/mysql

and then

mysqldump --add-drop-table -c --create-options -x -u root -p -A >

To add to your fun, let me present my wish list:

mplayer-gui and libquicktime (latest version from PUIAS) and
mlt >= 0.9.4

Ummm, NO. NOT the latter, under any circumstance... or hadn't you missed
the huge announcements that Apple would no longer support quicktime, and
every organization, at least here in the States, and all the trade press,
are saying uninstall quicktime yesterday!!!

And yes, we have been told to make it go away here at work... and I work
for a US federal gov't agency (civilian sector).

I hope this is your misunderstanding, Mark. I am talking about
libquicktime from:

http://libquicktime.sourceforge.net/

Not Apple's quicktime.

As seen in http://libquicktime.sourceforge.net/introduction.html,
"libquicktime is in no way related to the original quicktime software,
which can be found here (http://quicktime.apple.com/)".

I understood that it's not Apples (I wouldn't expect them to release an
rpm for us); however, I don't know that the team building libquicktime is
going to continue to upgrade and enhance, now that Apple's ended all
support for it, and everyone's being pushed, at least in all
organizations, to get rid of it, or if they might wind down the project;
that is why I was emphatic about not wanting it.

2016-05-03 Thread Nux!
Akemi,

Noted, thanks. I am trying to rebuild all packages which require ffmpeg.
Already hit problems with gstreamer-ffmpeg, had to give up and resort to using
its internal ffmpeg.

I'll let you guys know when stuff is ready so we can test.

Does journalctl --verify no longer complain of corruption? Or is it
possible there's corruption but journalctl and rsyslogd now tolerate
it somehow?

Anaconda live installs use this:

rsync -pogAXtlHrDx --exclude /dev/ --exclude /proc/ --exclude /sys/
--exclude /run/ --exclude /boot/*rescue* --exclude /etc/machine-id
/run/install/source/ /mnt/sysimage

[CentOS] Inconsistancy in RAID documentation

2016-05-03 Thread m . roth
On the wiki page for creating a mirrored root drive, at
, it first
tells you, in the install, to chose manual partitioning, and to leave at
least 1M at the end of the drive and then it tells you to create the
RAID 1 using /dev/sda and /dev/sdb - the *whole* raw drives.

mark, currently creating a RAID 1 using just the raw drives, no
partitions

[CentOS] ImageMagick security alert

2016-05-03 Thread Alice Wonder

https://imagetragick.com/

As CentOS is often used for web servers, I thought this should be posted
here.

Bug in ImageMagick allows remote exploit.

AFAIK no patch exists yet but defense against the exploit is detailed at
the link.

[CentOS] c6, drbd and file systems

2016-05-03 Thread John R Pierce
I have a pair of centos 6 systems, with a rather large raid thats DRBD
replicated from box 1 to box 2... box 1 mounts this as /data

when box 1 reboots, /data doesn't get mounted, but the drbd replication
starts up just fine. the entry in fstab is...

/dev/drbd0 /data xfs inode64 1 0

once the system is booted up, if I `mount /data`, it mounts just fine.

I'm not using any sort of heartbeat or other HA management software, if
box 1 fails, I'll manually configure box2 to take over after physically
disabling box1 so it can't wake up a zombie.

Hi,

Are you using SE Linux? If so does the context for /dev/drbd0 match on
both systems ?

afaik, this has nothing to do with the drbd slave. I reboot the
master, replication resumes just fine, but the /data filesystem doesn't
get automounted til I manually mount it.

Way back in 2012, I had some problems with partition-able RAID1, when
one of the disks is missing.

A client's ERP system would not boot because one of the disks had gone bad.

A search "partitionable raid 1 site:lists.centos.org" also throws up
other discussions on partition-able RAID1"

Indeed the problem may have been fixed but I have not done any
partition-able RAID1 since 2012.
