[CentOS] I'm still there ... test builds on private server (drivers, mesa, fixes)

2016-12-02 Thread Andreas Benzler
Hello Guys,

I'm still allive, but humbled by real lifetime.

My personal test stuff moved out to a new server, with more
harddrive space.

http://www.centos.cms4all.org/

Repo
http://centos.cms4all.org/repo/7/

My HP Notebook got some bios problem. I got a new machine
with updated processor.

That's why I upgrade my repo.

Drivers:

xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.99.917-20.20161118.el7.centos.src.rpm
(More stable on intel p520 against the old HP with intel 5500
installation - got video glitches before).

nouveau 1.0.13
ati 7.8
amdgpu 1.20
libva-intel-driver 1.73
libva 1.73
libdrm2.4.74

Mesa:
mesa 13.0.2 + llvm 3.8

Kernel:
Vanilla kernel-4.8.11 - feel very difficult with it, because of
harddrives..hm I will see.

Wine:
wine-1.8.5 (still need to update requirements)

wine-stage 1.9.23 (compiled with my drivers and mesa repo)
  - gallium 9 + staging + steam - update requirements
  - Tested: World of Warcraft, Gildwars 2, Tera
   - HD 6870 , HD 6970 with gallium. intel p520 performce slower,
 but works.

winetricks

Other:
gimp 2.8.18 (table release)

Media:
Makemkv 1.10.2

That's it for no.

PS: My packages are not signed as always - private work state.

Re: [CentOS] New laptop recomendation

2016-12-02 Thread Milos Blazevic
Hi Tony,

I've installed CentOS7 on a Latitude 7470 and can say for a fact
that most of the suff just works, while some of it that doesn't (like HDMI,
or KMS, nifty little feature I like to have) works with an Elrepo LT or ML
kernels.
Personally, I'd recommend the LT kernel. I also read in the RHEL 7.3 release
notes that
I2C support for Gen6 mobile CPUs was introduced. Thus as the time passes, say 6
months from
now, one should be able to drop the LT/ML kernel in favor of the stock
RHEL/CentOS kernel.

On a side note, the Latitude design/sturdiness impressions were much better
than that
of a Lenovo X1 Carbon gen4.

Regards,
Milos.

Re: [CentOS] New laptop recomendation

2016-12-02 Thread Andreas Benzler
I think you need 4.4 lts kernel, for example
elrepo lts.

I run this time 4.8.11 with i3 6100 HP Laptop
on my own special repo (Test envoirement).

X11 uses a git version for the intel graphic card.

If you are not a beginner. You can take a view :-)

Sincerely

Andy

[CentOS] CentOS 7, PS-2 moose

2016-12-02 Thread m . roth
I just built a workstation, CentOS 7, fully updated. My user requires his
three-button mouse, telling me that imaging software is written for
three-button mice (so *please* don't tell me to tell him to get a new
mouse).

Anyway, no cursor. In both /var/log/messages and journalctl, I see "unable
to enable mouse".

What I read in messages and manpages is that PS-2 is default standard...
anyone have any ideas? I need to resolve this asap... so I can get onto
making sure his research imaging software running on CentOS 7.

If it's not recognized for some reason, then the solution is to get him a new
mouse. I know that's not what you want to hear, but there are numerous
multi-button mice around that work fine.

I have a Logitech M510 wireless mouse with two standard buttons on the top, a
scroll wheel, and two more buttons on the left side. All of those inputs are
recognized, including both cranking the scroll wheel and clicking it.

You can use the xev command to test things like mice and see what is being seen
by the system when doing things like clicking mouse buttons.

Oh, yeah such customers exist, PITA and PEBKAC in most cases.

First testing the mouse on a "older" comp, does it work there?

Next testing, does the PS/2 plug hole on the new board work?
Some of the newer boards only work with keyboards on PS/2.

On testing, if the mouse works, there are adapters "PS/2 female" to
"USB Type A male" on Amazon for a few Bucks, that may be a way to work
around a non-fuctional or missing PS/2 plug-hole.

Addemum / Caveat to the adapters: If you buy one, be sure to buy a
"active" one, with electronics inside, the passive ones are just waste.

In this case, no. He's working with mostly open-source heavy duty
scientific imaging software.

Right. This mouse is the one I disconnected from his current 6.8 box, and
the Dell Precision T3610 actually has PS-2 connectors in the back. I
guarantee it was working.

Found one of them laying around. I've brought the box back to my cube, now
I need to bring it up and see if that works.

I was really hoping it just needed a manual configuration (and I just !!!
*adore* writing xorg.conf files...), or run a utility.

Thanks.

Oh, btw, just remembering - I *did* reboot after plugging it in, so it's
not that.
