Looks to me like there's a groove in front of the tab, with a runner in
it. Does it pull in a direction away from the motherboard (i.e up, if
it's vertically mounted) , hence sliding the battery out of the holder?

Looking down the thread, probably not what you want to hear since it
runs on Windows, and it's not an "appliance", more DIY, however

http://www.ispyconnect.com/

Is "free" and works really well. Feature list is everything you'd expect
from a surveillance system.

We use cheap (<£40) IP camera's like
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-camera-Pan-Tilt-2-ways/dp/B00432J56G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1391252923&sr=8-2

in our DC. However, with this, the chose is yours since the list of
supported cameras is as long as your arm.

We have this running on a very old core duo 2 PC, with 2 GB of ram (Win
7) ; with 8 cameras and motion detect running. Works a treat, and has
done for 2 yrs+

Only downside is you need a subscription if you want to monitor outside
your LAN, but I don't see that requirement from you.

I've got it down to a reasonable timeout (1m 30 sec) now with these options

proto=udp,timeo=1,retrans=0,retry=1,intr,soft,bg

with proto=tcp it's about 4mins

Ahhh, I should read the man pages more carefully!!

Just found this

retry=n The number of minutes to retry an NFS mount operation in the
foreground or background before giving up. The default
value for forground mounts is 2 minutes. The default
value for background mounts is 1 minutes, which is roughly
one week.

So retry=2 would give the same behavior on background mounts as
foreground mounts I reckon.

[CentOS] NFS options in fstab

2011-12-29 Thread Daniel Bird
Hi All,
I've a quick question I'm hoping someone can help out on; One of our NFS
servers has an intermittent hard lock problem under high load. This is a
CentOS 5.7 box. It's due for replacement sometime next year. However...

The issue is when this box dies the boxes that mount the NFS exports
have trouble with the mount and some processes time out casing the
system mounting the file system to become unresponsive also. Of course
un-monuting the file system with -l fixes it.

This is an example of our current mount options in fstab

hostname:/share1/ /mountpoint nfs rw,intr,soft,bg 0 0

The question is, what (other) options should we be using to allow the
mounting server to ignore/fail/timeout the mount, or at least continue
normal processing, when the NFS server packs up?
FYI we can't move to NFS4 since we've some old boxes running Solaris 8
mounting this filesystem also, which cannot be upgraded Solaris 10 to
support v4.

All the best

I do this in %post (along with installs for our standard extras)

wget -q -O - http://path/to/my/repo/file.repo | cat >
/etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo

That way, when updates to centos-release happen I keep my config and end

Yes, that makes perfect sense and thats the second stage of our
migration from the old E450 Solaris 8 box (which hosted everything via
a single samba instance, with NFS mounts from other storage that didn't
support running samba) . We ARE moving to direct samba mappings via the
netlogon scripts to the servers hosting the file systems, but we have
over 1200 smb shares across 40 or so 1Tb+ file systems and that all
takes time and testing... :-)

However, at the risk of being a pedant, that doesn't give us a
explanation as to why the same setup on CentOS & RHEL resulted in the
behavior we experienced. NFS mounts are surely not that uncommon on
samba servers and one would expect the locking mechanisms to cope with
that scenario. It surely does on our old Solaris box. We will be
investiaging this further since our migration is going to take a couple
of months and like JD pointed out in a previous post the no locking
option shouldn't be needed.

Indeed, however smb locking still properly reports "this file is in use
by" etc. on the smb side. If fact it seems to have had little
effect except for now properly reporting who is using the file instead
of always reporting the file is in use and locked by the owner.

Like I said, we still need to investigate more fully however the we see
the issue on all NFS file systems when using the rpms from both the
3.0.33 CentOS and samba-3x series from RedHat 5.5. Like the OP, local
file systems do not exhibit this issue.

We had a similar after issues migrating from a Solaris 8 2.x Samba
install to CentOS 5 . We had all sorts of timeouts, and weird slowness
and random "read only" messages.

Setting

locking = No

in the globals of smb.conf fixed it.

In our case we suspect it has something to do with locking differences
over NFS between Solaris and CentOS clients accessing a CentOS NFS
server but didn't have time to fully investigate (we were just glad it
got fixed!). If this works for you then maybe there's something more to
investigate...

[CentOS] Console priority

2009-10-20 Thread Daniel Bird
Hi all,
A while back I vaguely remember someone posting a link to documentation
on how to prioritise console access (for want of a better expression).
For the life of me I can't find it in the archives or via Google; Can
anyone provide a URL?

Basically, I have a remote server that thrashes (that's my theory at
least) occasionally, resulting in the service (httpd/mysql) failing.
When its in this state logging on to the console (serial + screen)
responds with "login timeout". The only way back from this at the moment
is a reboot.. If I can prioritize console access somehow and get on to
the server I may find a clue as to what's causing it.

[CentOS] Sparse LUN's

2009-05-27 Thread Daniel Bird
Hi All,
I've been chasing down a problem with LUN masking on CentOS5/RHEL5 hosts
with QLogic HBA's for a few hours and seem to have got to an impass;

Any device (disks in my case) on Non-sequential LUN's are not registered
with the OS. This happens across various HBA models and kernel
versions. FYI, I'm currently running the latest qlogic qla2xxx drivers
(8.02.14.01) against kernel 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 x86_64

For example if the LUN mask is set to 0,1,2,3 then all is OK and all
disks are configured. However, a mask of LUN 0 & 9 will not see the
disks on LUN 9. It appears the kernel stops scanning when there is a gap
in the LUN list.

I read in a number of places how to fix this issue, and indeed here:
http://filedownloads.qlogic.com/files/driver/48437/README_qla2xxx2-6U4.htm#BlacklistEntries

Apparently, I should be able to add a line to modprobe.conf that allows
sparse LUNs. So I followed the instructions and added

options scsi_mod dev_flags="SUN:CSM200_R:0x040" max_luns=20

and rebuilt initrd. This doesn't seem to work, as only LUN 0 is
configured by the OS despite LUN 9 also being unmasked.

I've also tried
options scsi_mod default_dev_flags=0x040 max_luns=20
in modprobe.conf with no luck

[r...@host qlogic]# cat /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/1

SCSI LUN Information:
(Id:Lun) * - indicates lun is not registered with the OS.
( 0: 0): Total reqs 144, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, Dflags 0x0, 0:0:83 00
( 0: 9): Total reqs 0, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x0*, Dflags 0x0, 0:0:83 00

[r...@sgulfs-data1 ~]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:

Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: SUN Model: CSM200_R Rev: 0616
  Type: Direct-AccessANSI SCSI revision: 03

I can however do

echo "scsi add-single-device 1 0 0 9" > /proc/scsi/scsi

to enable LUN 9 and the disk is then configured.

I've ended up writing a script in rc.local to enable the LUN , scan LVM
and mount the file system which is not ideal.

Does anyone have any further insight into how I could get the OS to
enable these LUN's on boot thus eliminating the need for my doubtless
dirty script?

Cheers

[CentOS] help with rebuilding md0 (Raid5)

2009-05-20 Thread Daniel Bird
Sorry, this is going to be a rather long post...Here's the situation; I
have 4 IDE disks from an old snap server which fails to mount the raid
array. We believe there is a controller error on the SNAP so we've put
them in another box running CentOS 5 and can see the disks OK.

hda thru hdd looks like this

Disk /dev/hdd: 185.2 GB, 185283624960 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 22526 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdd1 * 1 2 16041+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdd2 3 70 546210 83 Linux
/dev/hdd3 71 138 5462105 Extended
/dev/hdd4 139 21781 173844468 83 Linux
/dev/hdd5 71 104 273104+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdd6 105 138 273104+ 83 Linux

I can mount hdX1 and hdX2 (hdx2 is xfs) on all disks.

Now /etc/raidtab (from one of the hdx2 partions) has the following entry
which I'd like to re-create on the CentOS box

raiddev /dev/md0
  raid-level 5
  nr-raid-disks 4

Take a look at Netdisco. I seem to remember it's a little tricky to set
up on CentOS but I wouldn't live without it now.

A simple to use tool is available from http://www.logmein.com. The free
version of logmein should do what you want.
Or they do "Hamachi" for Windows and Linux which will create a
"personal" VPN for you, which means you can then use rdesktop direct to
the XP machine.

Of course, there's no guarantee these services will be around in 3 years
time

You can try rescanning the bus:

are not exported to the host.

Thanks Nate, I've tried that solution and a whole bunch of other tools
from Qlogic, still no joy. The thing that confuses me is the drives are
viable to my Solaris host. I'll give Quantum a ring and see if there is
anything needed on the M1800 to remedy this.

[CentOS] Missing SDLT600's

2008-07-24 Thread Daniel Bird

Hi All,
I have a CentOS5.2 server using a Qlogic QLE220 HBA, connected to
Quantum DX30 and M1800 libraries via a Qlogic SANbox 5600 switch. I've
installed the latest (v8.02.14) drivers from Qlogic for the HBA

The issue I have is I am missing 2 of the 4 SDLT drives provided by the
M1800 Library. The DX30 provides 6 drives, which are listed in dmesg
and assigned /dev/st0->5. I would expect the SDLT's to be st6->10 but I
only see up to st7 and dmesg only lists 2

Using the QLoigic SAN Surfer software all the LUN's/devices are visible
to the host.

FYI, I also have an old Sun220R connected to this same switch with a
qlogic card; Solaris 9 has no trouble seeing all LUNs and devices.

I've "googled" for a fair while and have not see anything that helps. My
FC knowledge on CentOS is limited so any help with troubleshooting this
would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
