Re: [CentOS] New CentOS7 Install Yum will not work

2018-12-07 Thread Ed Morrison

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for the help and sorry for the delay in response.

Curl fails.  This so weird.   I dumped CentOS and installed Ubuntu,
Ubuntu is working fine.  I have other CentOS, Windows and Ubuntu Vms
working fine in the same environment.   I am using the same IP info for
Ubuntu that I was using for the CentOS VM.

I needed to get this server up and running, so I am going to keep Ubuntu
in place for now.  I will try a new CentOS vm as time permits.

Thanks,

Ed

What happens if you run "curl http://mirrorlist.centos.org/"?  I see
this:

$ curl http://mirrorlist.centos.org/
arch not specified

Test that, and then use curl on some other url.  "curl
http://www.google.com/"; maybe.

This should establish whether or not you have general network
connectivity.   Either way, you'll probably want to talk to your
network admins regarding the result.

[CentOS] New CentOS7 Install Yum will not work

2018-12-05 Thread Ed Morrison
Hi Everyone:

I have been fighting this all morning. I did a new (several) installs of
CentOS7. Yum will not update the system. I have disabled ipv6, set
yum.conf to use IPv4 only, disabled firewalld, disabled selinux, used both
static ip and dhcp for network connectivity. I can ping any where on the
Internet, including the mirrors, DNS works and ensured the base URL line
was uncommented. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ed

This is the latest error I am seeing:
[root@localhost ~]# yum check-update

One of the configured repositories failed (Unknown),
and yum doesn't have enough cached data to continue. At this point the only
safe thing yum can do is fail. There are a few ways to work "fix" this:

 1. Contact the upstream for the repository and get them to fix the
problem.

 2. Reconfigure the baseurl/etc. for the repository, to point to a
working
upstream. This is most often useful if you are using a newer
distribution release than is supported by the repository (and the
packages for the previous distribution release still work).

 3. Run the command with the repository temporarily disabled
yum --disablerepo= ...

 4. Disable the repository permanently, so yum won't use it by default.
Yum
will then just ignore the repository until you permanently enable it
again or use --enablerepo for temporary usage:

yum-config-manager --disable
or
subscription-manager repos --disable=

 5. Configure the failing repository to be skipped, if it is
unavailable.
Note that yum will try to contact the repo. when it runs most
commands,
so will have to try and fail each time (and thus. yum will be be
much
slower). If it is a very temporary problem though, this is often a
nice
compromise:

yum-config-manager --save
--setopt=.skip_if_unavailable=true

Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: extras/7/x86_64

[CentOS] DNS caching is not working on CentOS

Hi All:

For whatever reason I can not get dns caching to work on any of my

not run? The services start fine but when telling to perform a dig

[CentOS] resize2fs

2011-08-29 Thread Ed Morrison
Hi All:

I am trying to resize a centos (5.2) VM drive. I use VMware and I have
increased the size of the drive by 40G. I am running resize2fs on
/dev/sdb1 (which is my root partition) but when I do I get this error:

[root@centos ~]# resize2fs /dev/sdb1 120G
resize2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006)
The containing partition (or device) is only 19970795 (4k) blocks.
You requested a new size of 31457280 blocks.

How can I change the block size?

I have also tried to use gparted live cd but it will not allow me to
increase the size even though it sees 40g of unused space. I can only
create a new partition.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ed

[CentOS] OFF Topic - Looking for web based file management application for law firm & clients

2009-01-29 Thread Ed Morrison
Hi All:

I am working with a law firm that would like to offer to it's clients
the ability to access their documents through a web interface. This
would require a nice gui to offer the clients with a simple process for
the clients to download from. It would also need to be secure
(authentication & SSL), and mandatory disclaimer acceptance before
logging into their account. Anyone with experience or thoughts on this
matter?

[CentOS] I need storage server advice

2008-05-06 Thread Ed Morrison

Hi:

I need advice on implementing a storage server. I really do not have
the $ to spend for a Dell iSCSI storage divice and I am thinking
trunning CentOS 5.x with ftp or FreeNAS. Here is what I am looking at
and concerned about.

Situation:
My current storage needs are approximately 1.5 TB annually. This will
increase to about 3.5 TB annually over the next 5 years (rough est.).
This box will just be a data archive and once it is full it will only be
used very infrequently if not used at all. Files are small up to 10 MB
but numerous.

CentOS:
Upgrading to the newer CentOS flavors. I will not have the ability to
archive this data to tape and I am concerned about loosing the data when
upgrading the OS. How best to handle this?

Storage limitation. It is my understanding that there is a 2 TB storage
limitation with Linux (and windows) in general particularly for
stability. I see that ReiserFS can go up to 16 TB. Is any one using
this? If so, how has it been for you?

FreeNAS
Anyone using FreeNAS? What is your experience? How easy is it to add
new drives and keep your data? Upgrading to newer versions?

Thanks,

if you want one, you need to create it. the package installs example

In all my other mysql installs there has always been an /etc/my.cnf
after the installation but you are correct this can be created easily
enough but I think this represents a bigger problem.

Nor are there any files in:

looks ok. at some time, you'll need to do some post-install tasks to
secure the server (mainly, set a password for the root user). see
mysql site or google...

The same directories on another mysql installation. These files are
there by "default". It appears to me this installation is not including

is selinux enabled on your system? check /var/log/messages.

No selinux is not enabled:

# This file controls the state of SELinux on the system.
# SELINUX= can take one of these three values:
# enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced.
# permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing.
# disabled - SELinux is fully disabled.
SELINUX=disabled
# SELINUXTYPE= type of policy in use. Possible values are:
# targeted - Only targeted network daemons are protected.
# strict - Full SELinux protection.

That was it. I upgraded pear and all is good...Thank you.

[CentOS] yum upgrade php dependency failure

2008-02-05 Thread Ed Morrison

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade php to version 5. When running yum upgrade I
get this failure:

--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: php = 4.3.9-3.22.9 for package: php-pear
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: php = 4.3.9-3.22.9 is needed by package php-pear

but the required php version is installed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# rpm -q php
php-4.3.9-3.22.9

Any suggestions on what is wrong and how to fix this?

Thanks!

[CentOS] Error 451 when clients try to send emails

2007-12-06 Thread Ed Morrison
Hi Everyone. I am trying to gifure out why I am getting a 451 error when
clients are trying to send email:

Client error:
Task 'mail.csdsinc.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC6A) : 'Your
outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 451 mail server
temporarily rejected message (#4.3.0)'

Here is a tail of my smtp log.

@400047586d0f1cf5eae4 simscan: connect error 2

@400047586d0f1d3e6594 qmail-smtpd: qq soft reject (mail server
temporarily rejected message (#4.3.0)): MAILFROM: RCPTTO:removed top protect the [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Clam & Spam logs are normal.

Any ideas?
