[CentOS] Update

2009-04-05 Thread jarmo
I found reason, why update wont go. I have installed much newer
glibc, than what comes with 5.3. I needed that, because of couple
radioamateur progs.
Now have to think, how do I downgrade glibc. If I try remove, there's
over 600 pagages, which have to remove and that's not good.

Hmm...

I agree with jarmo - it's an excellent tool

As well as connectivas package, didn't get SuSe's yet, but bet
there's maybe other depencies required than tose other distro's.

Original Hwinfo is made for Debian based systems, I think.

I'm having the same problems with lm_sensors with newer motherboards (ones

it helps to rmmod k8temp to get a reading. On some it doesn't.
I have one Intel board with I think Intel 5000X where lm_sensors also
fails with a message like no sys_fs or so, I don't really remember.
Do others know any tricks to get the data nevertheless?
I think the kernel and lm_sensors on Centos 5 are simply too old for some
chipsets. Also, there's sometimes a discrepancy between the support in the
 kernel and in lm_sensors.

If you *must* use Gimp 2.4, it is possible to compile it from source
(I have done that). However, it needs library files that are newer
than those in the distro. So, I cannot recommend doing it unless you

gave up and use Totem or Rhythmbox instead.

 Paul

I have installed XMMS to centos 5 and it's working fine...
For nostalgy or some other reasons... Totem and Rythm... Per-
sonally don't like... Amarok yes, but as long XMMS works,
using that...

[CentOS] rpmbuild --rebuild

2007-08-08 Thread jarmo
Hi
Again try to learn, how to make package. Now when I try to make from
.src.rpm I get:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] lataa]# rpmbuild --rebuild webmin-1.360-1.src.rpm
Installing: webmin-1.360-1.src.rpm
error: Legacy syntax is unsupported: copyright
error: line 12: Unknown tag: Copyright: Freeware

What's wrong with rpm? or me, eh? :D

Also if I try install webmins noarc.rpm I don't get it work properly...
Is there package for centos 5 somewhere? Webmin is one of the killer-
progs, what I've used, so would like to use it further more.

Using here vanilla kernel-2.6.21.1
rpm-4.4.2-37.el5

If you install the src.rpm, you can change the line that says
Copyright: Freeware to License: Freeware or better, what the license
actually is. I also see that you are building as root, that can do some
interesting things and I've heard of it corrupting dependencies for the
running system. You should take a look at these links for more info:

 http://dag.wieers.com/howto/bits/rpm-build-user.php
 http://myy.helia.fi/~karte/linux/doc/rpm-build-as-user.html
 http://fedoranews.org/tchung/rpmbuild/

Tnx

I'll look.
I got webmin 1.350 version installed and working... Now I can continue
learning that rpm stuff...

In the spec file there is a line that says, Copyright: Freeware. If
you comment this out and put a line License xxx, it will build. You
need to find out under what licensing webmin is distributed.

 Akemi

Yes, I found that.
It's freeware so no problem to build...

Thanks for info

Re: [CentOS] Ham Radio s/w and CentOS? {including Echolink}

I am going to present Linux to my ham radio club at some point in the next
few months, and wanted to collect info on ham radio software, including
options for echolink. Our repeater has an echolink connection, thus if I
present the software available for it, it might perk up people's interests
 more.

You can find quite much ham related progs from:
http://radio.linux.org.au/

It would also be very helpful if the echlink applications offered
proxy/firewall options so people at companies or at home that have networks
that implement firewalls, can proxy out and still get on Echolink.

Also, anyone know of a live-on-CD/DVD CentOS distribution that may include
 Echolink and/or other ham software?

 Thanks for any leads.

 Scott, WY1Z

I'm quite new with CENTOS and haven't yet any, used 7 years MDV. And there
also had to install separate all.

[CentOS] Flash-plugin

2007-07-19 Thread jarmo
Found quilty :D

It's my ens1370 card, what does not work with flash-sound.
When switched into motherboard integrated card, sound worked
perfecto'.

So turning now via card as default, everything's ok. I can still use
ens based with skype...

Are you running the i386 or the x86_64 kernel, with or without xen,
 with or without kdump, etc.?

 All relevant.

However, before we go much further, if this is not an x86_64 vs. 32
bit situation, I'm past my depth here (I use an AMD X2 w/x86_64 but
only run 32 bit browsers due to the plug-in sitch).

 mhr

Just x86 stuff, ie. kernel compiled as i686, Athlon xp2700+.
I have kdump installed, but have no idea how to use it :(

This is something weirdo, flash veresion 7 works fine, also sound.
And this is same also in other distro (mdv) what I used earlier.

Check the list archives for this email list - this has been discussed
 here a number of times.
Yes, I saw plenty of discussion, but not really working answer
for me.

It would help if we knew what you were running (kernel version, h/w,
 etc.)

Oh, sorry...
Kernel version is vanilla 2.6.22.1 (compiled for testing ax25 stuff) Not
tested with centos kernels.
Have two soundcards, one use snd_ens1370 and another snd_via82xx
drivers. As said, they work fine when using other multimedias.
Only flash sound missing.

I quickly needed it just after centos 5 was released and no well known
repositories had it at this time ...
So i rebuilt it for my personal use and decided to share it (in a little
home-made yum repository) with some friends who needed as well.
 Here it is :
 http://rpms.arrfab.net/centos/5/repodata/repoview/audacity-0-1.3.2-9.html
I've compiled it for i386 only ... if you need the x86_64 , rebuild the
srpm from FC6 but don't forget to replace Buildrequire wxGTK2-devel by
wxGTK-devel in the spec file ...

Thank you very much!
That was just what I needed... Working perfect.
