The "rf" in this version number tells me that you're using the flash-plugin
from rpmforge, which may not be completely up to date.

Install the adobe yum repo rpm, then remove the flash-plugin that you have
installed now and install flash-plugin from adobe.

Got it, thanks.

That is picking up from rpmforge (or is it reporforge now?).

You want to go to the Adobe site and get their repo set up. After set up
you'll have

adobe-linux-x86_64.repo

In case anyone is unaware of this ... we (the CentOS Project) are not
authorized to redistribute Flash software. This is an Adobe rule, not
one we can ignore/avoid.

I personally recommend the official yum repo directly from Adobe which

Re: [CentOS] flash plugin for centos 7

2014-09-08 Thread Thomas Bewick
Seems a reoccurring theme, I installed Centos tried the .yum package from
Adobe, YouTube video plays, no sound, tried unpacking the tarball into the
plugin folder in Mozilla folder, still no sound, yes sound worked for
everything else except YouTube videos in browser. Then at a suggestion on a
Linux forum tried the flash .rpm package from adobe and it worked.
Finally, unrelated to this I had to do a new reinstall of Centos on the
same computer, So I used the .rpm package from the start, thinking it would
work, again, nope, no sound on YouTube. I have no explanation as to why it
worked , then didn't.

It's not entirely clear what you're asking.
The default that will occur if you just hit Enter is No, indicated by the
upper-case letter in the brackets.

If you don't import the key you will either need to use the --nogpgcheck
parameter whenever you install an rpm from adobe, else disable the gpg check in
the yum.conf file.

I doubt that anyone here is going to counsel you to disable the gpg check.
If you don't want to automatically trust every package signed with that key,
then don't install it and use the --nogpgcheck parameter each time you want to
install an adobe package; if you don't mind trusting packages signed with that
key, then import it.

This was the untidy method I knew about.
My concern was that restarting after a kill

How do I find out the answer?

Assuming I install it correctly this time, do I need to restart firefox?
I often have rather a lot of tabs open and there
doesn't seem to be any tidy way to save them.

Re: [CentOS] flash plugin

2012-09-16 Thread Rob Townley
iirc, Firefox will block flash from working when it knows the plugin
is vulnerable.
flashtester.org works today, but not last week and maybe even the week before.
i have seen this behavior a few times after major security flaws are
known to be exploited.
i don't think i did anything to fix it except apply updates and reboot.

Have you rerembered to make sure no firefox process or any flash
process is running?

$ rpm -qv firefox flash-plugin
firefox-10.0.7-1.el6.centos.x86_64
flash-plugin-11.2.202.238-release.x86_64

FlashTester.org succeeds but javatester.org fails, so ...
Tools --> AddOns --> Plugins --> "Check to see if your plugins are up to date"
which brings one to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
"Missing Java? For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated
version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version."

I had similar problems on Centos 5.8 32 bit. U had to
downgrade to:

[root@karsites ~]# rpm -qv flash-plugin
flash-plugin-10.3.183.19-0.1.el5.rf

to get it to work again.

Security patches are being backported for now, IIRC.

[CentOS] flash plugin

2012-09-16 Thread Michael Hennebry

How do I get a flash plugin to work with firefox?
I thought that I installed it correctly,
but I have yet to see any flash videos through firefox.

I keep being told that I need an additional plugin.
When I folow directions, I'm told I already have it?
At least once, I was told I needed to upgrade.

In case it helps, here is the output of
yum provides '*flash*' | grep -e lash -e dobe -e repo /tmp/flash.txt | grep -v

OK, I just found out, after quite a lot of fiddling. Be it a server or a
desktop, I always start out with a bare-bones minimal system. Then, I
only add what I really need : X server, GNOME, handful of apps. And so
it comes that the 'curl' package is not installed on my systems (as I
tend to type 'wget -c' instead of 'curl -C - -O' :oD).

Now here's the solution : Flash 10 has a dependency on 'curl', and that
dependency is not explicit. Curiously enough, Flash 9 works without curl.

RPMForge packagers, roll up your sleeves :o)

On Fedora 13, some versions of Flash crashed when fullscreen button
was clicked, if the user also had nvidia drivers installed. The
workaround was to right click on the flash video content (before
switching to fullscreen), unticking "enable hardware acceleration"
then clicking fullscreen. Might be worth a try.

On Fedora 13, some versions of Flash crashed when fullscreen button

workaround was to right click on the flash video content (before
switching to fullscreen), unticking "enable hardware acceleration"
then clicking fullscreen. Might be worth a try.

Hi,

It's rather a pity you stopped at one step of a series which could
lead to finding the solution. Perhaps the time to solve the mysterious
"black holes" of Flash was too long to be worthy of all those efforts.
You decided. :-)

Have a nice day.

If you do a ps, do you see the 'plugin-container' and/or 'npviewer.bin'

Maybe strace them...

Hmmm...

I have found one day that some libraries or apps NOT installed albeit
being installed are treated by systems as INSTALLED. Check if ALL
ancillary apps/libs to flash were installed.

All of us with installed RHEL (me Scientific Linux) has no problem with
Flash. I must assume that you lost something during installation.

Perhaps yours is that special case about which wrote Mr John R
Pierce - "I had similar problems on netbook using the Poulsbro chipset.
Couldn't find any solution, even using Fedorka.latest. gave up and put
the windows HD back in the netbook."

I would do the following things:

1. Try LiveCD (any) to run Flash on your hardware.
2. Install the LiveCD to check if new system will run on your PC.
3. Install CentOS once more to base system then, watching
carefully, only the apps needed to run (s)mplayer to check if multimedia
are working OK.
4. Install Flash.
5. Change graphics card when working in CentOS. ???

Heck, there's no magic in PC's software there! ;-)

BTW. You cannot run Flash, what about other multimedia files (stand
alone plus in web browsers' frames)?

I tried this on four differents machines here. It's a computer training
room, so there's plenty of ready Linux installs on a Ghost server.

Flash works on any one of these machines with Fedora, openSUSE and Arch.
So it's not the hardware.

Fresh install of CentOS with RPMForge configured and flash-plugin
installed : Flash fails everywhere. Same result with flash-plugin from
the Adobe repo.

Still more clueless than before :o)

Hi,

Did you (Niki) try to d/load any flv from youtube.com and run it with
(s)mplayer for example?

Perhaps try to change video driver or set up VBox, install CentOS in it,
and then smplayer. VBox has excellent vesa driver and CentOS is
very good host to run VBox with other systems.

What did google say when asked for black flash film frames?

what I'm trying to suggest is, this could possibly be an issue with your
X-Windows graphics adapter driver. In my case, it was the poulsbo
graphics driver, which is known experimental and sub-par.

I tried what you suggested. Removed flash-plugin, installed development
version. When I open about:plugins, I have this :

Shockwave Flash

 Fichier : libflashplayer.so
 Version :
 Shockwave Flash 10.2 d161

But still, no videos can be played. Whenever I go on snotr.com,
youtube.com or the likes, I either get a blank space where the video
should be, or a black square the size of the video, but nothing in it.

I tried this on two fresh installs on two different machines, with the

I'm clueless.

Hi,

Try to put the flash lib in ~/.mozilla/plugins the following way:

Make ~/Flash64 dir, put there libflashplayer.so from Adobe Flash rpm and
then make symlink to ~/.mozilla:

~/.mozilla/plugins/@libflashplayer.so

Why do you use flash-plugin? Use the latest lib from Adobe.

32 and 64 bit versions of latest "flashes":
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

My flash:
Shockwave Flash 10.2 d161 (from about:plugins in web browser)

[CentOS] Flash plugin not working

2010-11-08 Thread Niki Kovacs
Hi,

I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.5, with a minimal GNOME desktop. I
configured RPMForge as third party repo.

I updated everything first, then installed flash-plugin. (And yes, I
restarted Firefox... :oD). All I see when I try to see some things Flash
on the Internet, like Youtube or the likes, I get... nothing. The space
remains white. Sometimes a black square will appear, sometimes it will
redisappear again.

$ rpm -q flash-plugin
flash-plugin-10.1.82.76-0.1.el5.rf

I also tried to give the more recent version from Adobe a shot, with the
same result. I took a look in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, where everything
seems normal.

$ ls -l /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 nov  8 22:22 libflashplayer.so ->
/usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so

Which leaves me clueless. Any suggestions ?

Cheers,

Hi,

BTW. Flash x64 was not reported to evince the same problems. I
checked it yesterday on Redhat and Adobe pages.

Scientific Linux x64 I use (100% CentOS) works excellent with Java x64
and 64 bit Flash.

I had a few Flash crashes under Firefox with heavy loads - dozens of
pages opened - as x64 version is in experimental phase but I wish i386
was equally stable!

But, 1) I have 15" monitor and I rarely switched on full screen modes;
2) hulu.com does not provide its services for users outside the USA -
so I wasn't able to check the specific site.

curl for both archs is needed for flash-plugin to work on 64-bit.

glibc issues on el4 prevent upgrading to the newer flash-plugin or any
of the newer modules from the Adobe repo.

Has anyone else seen something like this? I've had problems with the
sound device before on this machine, which occasionally caused flash
to get *entirely* stuck, so (based on no sound on YouTube) I'm going
to try rebooting to see if that may be a factor here; but I've never
had this particular symptom before.

[CentOS] flash-plugin-9.0.124.0-1 having problems since firefox-3.0.7-3.el4.centos

2009-04-23 Thread Bart Schaefer
Updated yesterday to the latest firefox from CentOS, and now RPMforge
flash-plugin will only play a few seconds of video (such as CNN,
iReport, etc.) at a time before becoming stuck; dragging the slider
back a little allows it to play a bit further, but then it stops
again. YouTube plays the video without sticking, but has no sound.

glibc issues on el4 prevent upgrading to the newer flash-plugin or any
of the newer modules from the Adobe repo.

[CentOS] Flash-plugin

2007-07-19 Thread jarmo
Found quilty :D

It's my ens1370 card, what does not work with flash-sound.
When switched into motherboard integrated card, sound worked
perfecto'.

So turning now via card as default, everything's ok. I can still use
ens based with skype...

I see no reason why the make/model of processor you are using has
anything to do with this aside from whether you are running i386 or
x86_64 c5. Make sure you have the alsa-lib and alsa-utils packages
installed. Let me know if that works.

Just x86 stuff, ie. kernel compiled as i686, Athlon xp2700+.
I have kdump installed, but have no idea how to use it :(

This is something weirdo, flash veresion 7 works fine, also sound.
And this is same also in other distro (mdv) what I used earlier.

Just out of interest - this has just been masked in the Gentoo
portage. Apparently there are too many versions floating around so no
one knows which version they are getting.
I hope they fix it soon!

Are you running the i386 or the x86_64 kernel, with or without xen,
with or without kdump, etc.?

All relevant.

However, before we go much further, if this is not an x86_64 vs. 32
bit situation, I'm past my depth here (I use an AMD X2 w/x86_64 but
only run 32 bit browsers due to the plug-in sitch).
