We have to put the backgrounds somewhere else, as the default-* stuff is
already taken by TreeFlower. I will have an updated artwork package soon
for the GDM/KDM stuff which somehow (tar xzf doesn't work on a tar.bz2,
d'oh) fell out of it. See http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=3462.

Backgrounds would have to go into the desktop-backgrounds-basic package
anyway ...

Cheers,

Ralph

This will at least make CentOSCubes work again. Maybe we could also
include the new Classic theme. I am going to prepare a KDM theme and
some splashes, too.

That's true.

the separation between (light) windows and a (dark) desktop less clear...
No body complained when the graphics were in testing and posted on the list.

So a majority of desktop users must like it...

It is beautiful artwork, but my vision is so skewed contrast-wise, that
I cannot look at the screen with it showing. I need low contrast
backgrounds. I wear sunglasses insides a lot, and suffer a lot outdoors.
An Ophthalmologist once told be to be thankful I don't have the opposite
condition, as I can always 'darken' a room with sunglasses. So I don't
complain, just adjust my surroundings as much as I can...

Of course, I tend to have a dozen apps open on each workspace so it is
rare to actually SEE the background :)

I still have a couple systems not upgraded, what is the file name of the

I believe the name of the file is 'default.jpg' -- although the new version
shows three other defaults... default-5_4.jpg, default-dual.jpg and
default-dual-wide.jpg. I'm guessing the old files had the same four names.

Re: [CentOS] New Centos 5.3 gnome backgroup

2009-04-06 Thread Marcus Moeller
Good Evening.

I spend some time to create a more 'classic' CentOS theme.

# Wallpaper

You can find the 4:3 wallpaper here:

http://www.marcus-moeller.de/share/classic/wallpaper.png

Widescreen will follow

# GRUB

Download the matching GRUB Splash here:

http://www.marcus-moeller.de/share/classic/splash.xpm.gz

To activate this, you can first backup the original one with:

cp /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz.orig

and the copy the new one over:

cp /path/to/the/downloaded/splash.xpm.gz /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz

# GDM

To make use of the Classic GDM Theme, first download:

http://www.marcus-moeller.de/share/classic/classic_gdm.tar.bz2

and extract it to the GDM themes folder with:

tar xvjf Classic.tar.bz2 -C /usr/share/gdm/themes/

To activate this theme, open Alt+F2 and enter gdmsetup (if it's not
there, first yum install it)

# RHGB

The large CentOS RHGB logo really looks good with the Classic theme:

http://www.marcus-moeller.de/share/classic/large-computer.png

You can first backup the original logo with:

cp /usr/share/rhgb/large-computer.png /usr/share/rhgb/large-computer.png.orig

and then copy the new one over

cp /path/to/the/downloaded/large-computer.png /usr/share/rhgb/large-computer.png

...

I am going to push it into a SVN branch as soon as I find some time ;)

I've still got an old Pentium III using 5.2 -- I'll do the same. Thanks.

As for the new wallpaper, I like it -- it grabbed my attention. The problem
is that it didn't let go of it -- the background always wants to be in the
foreground.

It would be redhat-logos is the Package name
redhat-logos-4.9.99-11.el5.centos,, But the version you want is older
that that. You can browse through the mirrir sites to get it. Then you
can extract the backgrounds out of the package.

You want to look into /usr/share/backgrounds/images/ for CentOS
wallpapers. If you have updated and lost them, you can get them
from:

http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5.2/os/i386/CentOS/desktop-backgrounds-basic-2.0-40.el5.centos.noarch.rpm
