Correct. DNS is not case sensitive.


I have grepped /etc and below for tomslick and cannot find why this
machine name is not a
combo of upper and lower case.


Because your system is following the RFC.


I have never ran into this before. Where is this???

I have a box I just installed centos 4.5 on.

The name of the machine in /etc/hosts is TomSlick.xyz.com TomSlick (for 
example).
