Re: Check value of form check box for CFMAIL

2001-02-14 Thread Bud

On 2/14/01, Jeff Davis penned:
OK I need to check the value of a check box to see if it has been
checked so I can pass the info in my CFMAIL tag. This is what I have
so far:

CFIF #bannerads# EQ 1
 I want Banner Ads
/CFIF

Can anyone tell me if this right?

If the checkbox isn't checked, it will return an error.

cfif isdefined('bannerads')
I want banner ads
/cfif

 Does anyone have a good javascript that will allow you to type ina

populate

This is the calculation

You can do the rest with onChange or onBlur events.

RE: CAN I combine Verity results with a standard query?

2001-02-14 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

 I'm trying to run a standard CFQUERY search using results found
 in a VERITY query. Heres what my code looks like:
 For some reason, I keep coming up with no results! What am I doing wrong?
 Any suggestions?
 ---

 CFSEARCH
   name = "GetResults"
   collection = "#SearchCollection#"
   criteria = "#ResumeKeyword#"
 !--- Make a List of results---
 CFSET ResumeResults=""
 CFOUTPUT QUERY="getresults"
 CFSET ResumeResults=ListAppend(ResumeResults, "#getfilefrompath(key)#")
 /cfoutput

 CFQUERY DATASOURCE="Stars" NAME="Talent"
 SELECT *
 FROM Talent
 WHERE TalentID=TalentID
 AND Resume IN ('#ResumeResults#')
 /cfquery

OK, first of all, I'm assuming that Resume was the KEY that was built in the
CFIndex, if not, this won't work...

Next, if Resume is a text field it needs apostrophies around each entry, so
your ListAppend() needs to be;
CFSET ResumeResults=ListAppend(ResumeResults, "'#getfilefrompath(key)#'")

And then the WHERE needs to be;
AND Resume IN (#PreserveSingleQuotes(ResumeResults)#)

The reason for the PreserveSingleQuotes() is that they need to be escaped or
they won't be recognised by SQL...

Hi,

CF 4.0 has a bug in that it identifies the session not by the combination of CFID and
CFTOKEN, but, just by CFID alone. In case you indeed checked all settings and
CFAPPLICATION tags, I'd go for an update to at least 4.01.

Ummm... maybe unneccessary to ask, but, you're not trying to pass session or client

Ok i have a repeat region that shows every one that has voted on an admin

If some one hase vote twice, i want there to be a delete button next to

for the admin to only delete duplicate data.

i am trying to understand conditional cfif staments to do this.

IF EmployeeID = EmployeedID AwardsID AwardsID then show a delete

that seems simple to me.
but in the master record every empID would Be equal to itself.
so then i should see if its primamry key 'AwardsID' is equal to itself?
IF not show the delete button'?

sounds right.

i am probably missing the logic here.

any advice, would be great.

OT: Excel to SQL7

2001-02-14 Thread Lee Surma

I'm using DTS(Data Transformation Services) to import an excel file to SQL 7. My
problem is that DTS throws an error on numbers and dates unless the field in the SQL
table is VarChar. It will not put a number into a number or a date into a date because
everthing in Excel is viewed as a string.

uh, check to see if the current records id == previous records id.

RE: 404 Error

2001-02-14 Thread Stephenie

that will only work with htm, iis will still display the defaul 404 when a
non-existant cfm page is called...to make iis use a custom cfm page for cfm
404's, you need to go into iis, under home directory tab, towards the bottom
where the application settings are, configuration tab, then edit the app
mappings for .cfm, check the box "check that file exists"
then if the file does not exist, iis will use your custom cfm page.

RE: HELP wap !!!!!!!

2001-02-14 Thread Dylan Bromby

you can do it one of three ways;

1) send an email to the phone based on their mobile ID. you need to know
what the domain is for the mail accounts each carrier assigns. then you need
to collect the mobile IDs of the users. you would send an email to something
like [EMAIL PROTECTED] where 1...0 is their number and
mail.carrier.com is the mail domain. on the infrastructure side, the carrier
sends your email to the phone using SMS.

2) some carriers have web-based forms you can fill out with the user's
mobile ID and a message and the application will send a SMS message right to
the phone without the SMTP intermediate step. you can write an application
that sends HTTP POSTs to whatever forms you need to to communicate with your
users wirelessly.

3) set up relationships with the carriers you need and get approval to post
directly to their SMS gateways.

Hi Melanie.

I had a lot of problems with 4.5.2 after upgrading the same way you did.
What I ended up doing was uninstalling CF 4.0 and 4.5.x from my machine,
deleting all the directories (saved all my snippets of course) and going
through the registry and
deleting anything that referenced either homesite or cfstudio 4.0 or 4.5. I
rebooted my machine, reinstalled 4.5.2 (just need your old 4.5.x serial
number for it) and finally things calmed down.

I am still having RDS and project problems but those seem to be standard.
At least I can work now.

btw, I am running this on win2k server. Your mileage may vary.

OK Studio 4.0 was working relatively well (ok the occasional fatal exception
but still I could get my work done), so I decided to upgrade to 4.5.1. It
seemed to work for a while and then whenever I got in it would beep upon
entry and hang. I clicked on the local resource tab and get "can't access
this folder, path is too long". Then all he-doublehockeysticks breaks out -
hangs, fatal exception, the works. Have to reboot. My first thought was
"great - good thing I still have 4.0" But upon checking, now 4.0 was doing
the same thing. I took 4.0 off, took 4.5 off, reinstalled 4.5.1, ran the
Allaire download to upgrade it to the latest 4.5.2, and still the same
problem. I can get to the RDS tab and everything looks fine there, but if I
retrieve any files and try to save back to anywhere I get the above message.
Any ideas on what path it's talking about that's too long? I'm kicking
myself for not staying with 4.0. Thanks in advance for any insight anyone
can provide.

REPOST: Weird pcode error (please! help!)

2001-02-14 Thread Michel Vuijlsteke

Can *anyone* shed any light on this? Please?

Help!

Sometime yesterday around 19:49, my CF Server started throwing pcode errors
by the hundreds, like this:

unknown exception condition PCodeRuntimeContextImp::setVariableThe error
occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFSCHEDULE), occupying document position (3:1) to (5:13).Date/Time:
02/11/01 21:51:28Browser: Remote Address: Template:
C:\CFUSION\Scripts\cfexectask.cfmQuery String: TASK=check for db upload

(all of them in cfschedule processing)
.and right about the same time, this simple piece of code:

CFQUERY NAME="Getcarbrands" DATASOURCE="dsn"
SELECT distinct Merk FROM Cars
/CFQUERY

SELECT name="Merk"
  CFOUTPUT QUERY="Getcarbrands"
OPTION VALUE="#Merk#"#Merk#/OPTION
  /cfoutput
/SELECT

started throwing this exception:

QUERY The QUERY attribute of the tag does not specify the name of an
available query
The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFOUTPUT), occupying document position (270:1) to (270:31)

I have ab-so-lu-te-ly no idea why this happened, and a simple cycle of CF
apparently took care of the problem.

Any ideas why this would happen? It *is* one of our only remaining CF 4.0.1
servers, but it has plenty RAM HD and it has been running for some time
without that particular problem ever cropping up before.

RE: CFIF Conditional Code.

2001-02-14 Thread Stephen Kellogg

two thoughts

1. What about checking to see if they have already voted during the voting
process and put up a message saying they have already voted. You could then
show them their current vote and ask if they want to change it.

2. If you don't do option 1, can you use a SELECT DISTINCT in your query
based on EmployeeID so you end up with only one vote per employee?

Re: Check value of form check box for CFMAIL

2001-02-14 Thread Tony Schreiber

Yes, you must check that the checkbox is defined. Unchecked checkboxes
essentially do not exist when passed.

CFIF IsDefined('Form.CheckBox')I want banner ads./CFIF

The value doesn't matter. Unless you have multiple checkboxes with the
same name. For example:

INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="BannerAds" VALUE="Porn" Porn
INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="BannerAds" VALUE="Affiliate" Affiliate
INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="BannerAds" VALUE="Visa" Visa
INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="BannerAds" VALUE="Free" Free

Any checked boxes will result in a comma separated list being passed for
BannerAds. So if the first and last boxes were checked, BannerAds would
equal "Porn,Free".

 I think you'll need to check that it's defined (IsDefined("checkbox"))
 first... otherwise the if test will fail if it hasn't been checked.

 I may be wrong though!! :^)

Like you said, you don't need CFX_Make_Tree unless you want it. In fact,
I'm working on not needing it in the next release.

Other than setting up a datasource, you shouldn't need anything else.

 Other than installing CFX_Make_Tree, if I need it, does my ISP have to do
 anything to allow or enable this application?

Subject: REPOST: Weird pcode error (please! help!)

Can *anyone* shed any light on this? Please?

Help!

Sometime yesterday around 19:49, my CF Server started throwing pcode errors
by the hundreds, like this:

unknown exception condition PCodeRuntimeContextImp::setVariableThe error
occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFSCHEDULE), occupying document position (3:1) to (5:13).Date/Time:
02/11/01 21:51:28Browser: Remote Address: Template:
C:\CFUSION\Scripts\cfexectask.cfmQuery String: TASK=check for db upload

(all of them in cfschedule processing)
..and right about the same time, this simple piece of code:

CFQUERY NAME="Getcarbrands" DATASOURCE="dsn"
SELECT distinct Merk FROM Cars
/CFQUERY

SELECT name="Merk"
  CFOUTPUT QUERY="Getcarbrands"
OPTION VALUE="#Merk#"#Merk#/OPTION
  /cfoutput
/SELECT

started throwing this exception:

QUERY The QUERY attribute of the tag does not specify the name of an
available query
The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFOUTPUT), occupying document position (270:1) to (270:31)

I have ab-so-lu-te-ly no idea why this happened, and a simple cycle of CF
apparently took care of the problem.

Any ideas why this would happen? It *is* one of our only remaining CF 4.0.1
servers, but it has plenty RAM HD and it has been running for some time
without that particular problem ever cropping up before.

Re: CFIF Conditional Code.

2001-02-14 Thread Bud

On 2/14/01, Paul Ihrig penned:
i am trying to understand conditional cfif staments to do this.

IF EmployeeID = EmployeedID AwardsID AwardsID then show a delete
button.
that seems simple to me.
but in the master record every empID would Be equal to itself.
so then i should see if its primamry key 'AwardsID' is equal to itself?
IF not show the delete button'?

You could do:

cfquery name="getvotes"
select employeeid, awardsid
from awards

Then group the output:

cfoutput query="getvotes" group="employeeid"cfset votecount = 0
cfoutputcfset votecount = votecount + 1/cfoutput
cfif votecount GT 1
Show delete button
input type = hidden name="employeeid" value="#employeeid"
input type = hidden name=awardsid" value="#awardsid"
/cfif
/cfoutput

Then:

delete from awards
where employeeid = #form.employeeid# and awardsid  #form.awardsid#

There are other ways of doing it where you could pass a list of
employeeids and awardsids and delete all except the main ones with
one click.

I think a better option would be on the vote page. Check for the
employeeid and if the recordcount is 1, then run an update query
instead of an insert query. That way they can change their vote. Or
if you don't want them to change their vote, then tell them Sorry,
you voted.

 you can do it one of three ways;

 1) send an email to the phone based on their mobile ID. you need to know
 what the domain is for the mail accounts each carrier assigns.
 then you need
 to collect the mobile IDs of the users. you would send an email
 to something
 like [EMAIL PROTECTED] where 1...0 is their number and
 mail.carrier.com is the mail domain. on the infrastructure side,
 the carrier
 sends your email to the phone using SMS.

 2) some carriers have web-based forms you can fill out with the user's
 mobile ID and a message and the application will send a SMS
 message right to
 the phone without the SMTP intermediate step. you can write an application
 that sends HTTP POSTs to whatever forms you need to to
 communicate with your
 users wirelessly.

 3) set up relationships with the carriers you need and get
 approval to post
 directly to their SMS gateways.

Re: Excel to SQL7

To further elaborate. I guess I was hoping that DTS would be stateless in much the
same way CF is. Where string data that passes all of the rules of being a number could
be used as a number.
One thing that could work is putting the Excel data into a temp file and then using CF
to loop through that file and insert the records into the destination file.

  Ok, here is what you need to do:

  - Make sure you are running DB2 Connect Version 5 Fixpak 6 on your
  Solaris Server.
  - From DB2 Connect create a catalog for your database
 - At the command prompt type the following
 - catalog tcpip node "as400 or any name" remote "as400 hostname or ip
  address" server "port number"
 - catalog database "dbname" as "dbalias" at node "same as previous
  line" authentication dcs
 - catalog dcs database "dbname" as "dbalias"
 - connect to the database using an assigned username and password to
  check if cataloging was successful

  Then once the connection is confirmed go into your CF Administrator and
  setup your connection with a username a password, then test. The
  connection should be successful.

  If you have anymore questions, let me know.

Then be sure to have a custom error.cfm page within that directory scope. It

What are some options for generating large outputs

2001-02-14 Thread Larry W. Virden

A user has specifically requested to see the results of a query where
the resulting output is 32,000 or more records. It takes more than
15 minutes to generate the huge HTML table that is currently being
generated, the server is slowed down during this time, the potential
for thread conflicts occur, etc. We also are aware that some versions
of browsers that have severe problems attempting to display or print
massive sized tables.

An attempt was made to turn this data into html data which was then
imported into Excel as an alternate means of display - Excel then reported
with 'out of memory' after an hour

So what are some alternatives? Perhaps generation of an Excel spreadsheet
directly - except does anyone know of a Solaris ColdFusion tag that runs
efficiently and generates an Excel compatible spreadsheet? What are some
alternatives means of presenting massive amounts of tabular data?

Opening Adobe Acrobat form from CF page with SSL

In our app we have a PDF that we open from a CF page and populate with a
bunch of data as a sort of preview so they can look at it before printing.
We've never had a problem with this functionality until we put it on a setup
with separate CF and SQL (using Microsoft SQL 7) servers and turned on SSL.
Turn SSL off, works fine. It won't even launch Adobe. Has anyone run into

RE: Excel to SQL7

2001-02-14 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

 To further elaborate. I guess I was hoping that DTS would be
 stateless in much the same way CF is. Where string data that
 passes all of the rules of being a number could be used as a number.
 One thing that could work is putting the Excel data into a temp
 file and then using CF to loop through that file and insert the
 records into the destination file.

DTS uses a variant of the ODBC Excel driver, and as such if a field numeric
at the top, it MUST be numeric all the way down

Two ways around this;
Copy the columns to force them to be text
=Mid("'"A1,2,Len(A1))

Copy the data into an Access database with all fields as text, then import
this rather than the Excel

Not clean, but both work

One of our developers here has done this. I can't find the code
though, sorry.
You have to install the Notes client on the server to get the ODBC
drivers to setup the DSN.
You can read and write, but according to this developer you can't use
CFTRANSACTION.

RE: Dateformat behaviour

2001-02-14 Thread Steve Martin

DateFormat assumes US date formats by default - it is effectivelt a
hardwired US locale specific version of LSDateFormat. I would recommend that
you set your locale using SetLocale("English (UK)") [or whatever] and then
use the locale specific versions of the date and time manipulation
functions.

 Have a strange behaviour of DateFormat() function. Look at the following

(Article) Numeric lookups in Structures

2001-02-14 Thread Michael Dinowitz

From the depths of the FRB comes the voice of the prophet. He speaks words of
wisdom for those who wish to listen. The words spoken now concern using numbers
as a lookup index in a structure rather than text.
This will be written up as a paper on www.fusionauthority.com.

The Book of Michael says:
An associative array is an alternative name for a structure. It also points to
the ability of a structure to resemble an array in all ways. All you have to
remember is that the lookup keys have to be text.
HR
CFSCRIPT
// create an array with one dimension
aTest=ArrayNew(1);
// create a standard structure
sTest=StructNew();
// load the array with data using the standard set syntax
aTest[1]="first";
aTest[2]="second";
/* load the structure with data using associative array syntax. Notice
that the numeric lookup id is surrounded by single quotes. This
causes ColdFusion to treat it as text and will therefore be 'legal'
as a structure lookup. Path lookups in this case will always fail
i.e. sTest.1 */
sTest['1']="first";
sTest['2']="second";
/CFSCRIPT

RE: CFCOOKIE help

2001-02-14 Thread Benjamin S. Rogers

 Silly question...

Doubtful. :)

 I know that a page can't set a cookie if it has a
 CFLOCATION on it, but will it set it if the cookie is defined in an
included
 page, but the calling page has a redirect?

No, it will not. The issue with CFLOCATION is that ColdFusion aborts the
normal processing of the client request and simply sends a redirect back to
the browser.

Fortunately, you can overcome this with the following tip:

http://www.teamallaire.com/tutorials/index.cfm?fuseaction=displaytopicid=01
3

Instead of using the CFLOCATION tag, write the HTTP header manually. This
is actually more like the process you would have to go through in other
scripting languages like as Perl.

 What if I redirect with JavaScript?

That will work, though your more dependent on the client than you would be
with the above solution as more browsers support HTTP redirection as
compared to JavaScript.

Re: What are some options for generating large outputs

2001-02-14 Thread S C

what db are you running against?

ColdFusion 5.0 which is scheduled to be released in
Q2, will actually display the records to the browser
as it is retrieving them. But since your issue
obviously requires an immediate solution, I recommend
using a stored procedure to return 'n' records at a
time. This would require using cursors in your stored
proc to control what comes back.

RE: What are some options for generating large outputs

You could generate a CSV file (comma-separated values) which Excel can open.
Excel does have a relatively low (~ 250) limit on the number of columns that
it will handle with a CSV file, and I've only created files with ~ 1000
rows. Anyway, CF + Unix tools can easily create a valid CSV file.

What is the database you are using? You could write a SQL statement to
extract the information and save it to a simple text file in a CSV format
then import it to excel.

Remember that depending on what version of excel you are using effects how
many rows it can import.

Extending CFFORM

2001-02-14 Thread Michael Dinowitz

Its not that CFFORM can not be extended, its that people have not read the
depths of the docs. CFFORM can be seen as being composed of 4 things. The first
is the ability to create standard form tags dynamically. The second is to use
pre-built javascript validation libraries. The third is to use pre-built Java
form elements. The fourth is to define YOUR OWN java form elements.
When thinking about extending CFFORM, people tend to forget that they can add
their own Javascript validation scripts to extend tha abilities. They also
forget (or usually don't know) that using the CFAPPLET tag will allow them to
take a java applet that has a specific variable name or two and just 'plug it
into' a CFFORM.
In all my time using CF, I've only seen two custom Java CFFORM applets. The
first is the calculator that I showed off in my CFFORM chapter in the WACK (vol
23). The other is a demo applet that ships with the CF docs. Unfortunatly (or
fortunatly), this is all moot now as Harpoon will be taking over for most, if
not all of the java applets in CF and will probably become the 'standard' for
extending CFFORM.
The only reason I write this is because someone mentioned that a negative with
CF is that it dosn't allow CFFORM to be extended.

p.s. on his other mention of CFOBJECT not supporting the asp model, this is not
a part of the COM specification. Its something MS added in for their own use.

  you can do it one of three ways;

  2) some carriers have web-based forms you can fill out with the user's
  mobile ID and a message and the application will send a SMS
  message right to
  the phone without the SMTP intermediate step. you can write an
 application
  that sends HTTP POSTs to whatever forms you need to to
  communicate with your
  users wirelessly.

  3) set up relationships with the carriers you need and get
  approval to post
  directly to their SMS gateways.

RE: What are some options for generating large outputs

2001-02-14 Thread Chris Maloney

Larry,
The best option I can think of is to use CFScript for the output, and put
the data inside of pre/pre tags so that you can format without having a
table...I can't tell you how much time this would save but it would reduce
the overhead used by the table...however you won't have any nice formatting
with it :)
Example code...

cfquery name="myquery" datasource="mydsn"SELECT username, firstname,
lastname FROM biglist ORDER BY username/cfquery
pre
cfscript
WriteOutput(" Username  First Name Last Name\n");
for(i=1;i LE myquery.recordcount;i=i+1)
{
WriteOutput(" #myquery.username[i]#  #myquery.firstname[i]#
#myquery.lastname[i]\n");
}
/cfscript
/pre

An attempt was made to turn this data into html data which was then

So what are some alternatives? Perhaps generation of an Excel spreadsheet

Parsing Headache (Removing Multiple Images)

2001-02-14 Thread Steve Reich

OK.. I am writing a tag with CFHTTP to blah, blah, blah... it works fine.
Now I want to port my application to the Palm Pilot so I want to remove the
images from the output. Here's my line of thinking at the moment...

cfscript
 output = #Trim(CFHTTP.FileContent)#;
 imageStart =#Find("img", output, 1)#;
 imageEnd = #Find("", output, imageStart)#;
 imageLen = imageEnd - imageStart + 1;
 output = #Replace(output, Mid(output, imageStart, imageLen), "", "ONE")#;
/cfscript

This works great in removing the first image.

My Question:

How can I loop this some how to remove all images without knowing how many
are on the page? Fortunatly there are only 1-3 per page. I've been racking
my brain for hours over this one.. any takers?

Thanks,

Clarification on Security Sandboxes

2001-02-14 Thread Gregory Harris

Ok, lemme see if I have this straight on advanced security

ColdFusion sandboxes: The work on policies that you specify in the CF Admin

Operating system sandboxes: Work with the operating system, banking on the username
and password specified to determine what all users have.

Now a question:

If I want to give any given app a different set of Operating system rules (for example
User A with an OS Security sandbox has access to this directory A, but not that
directory B, but in another app user B, with an OS Security Sandbox has access to
directory B, but not Directory A) how would I program this and enforce throughout?
This can't be done using Cold Fusion (every app must obey the rules, regardless of
programming). So how could I do this?

RE: Using excel as a data source????

2001-02-14 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

 I set up cold fusion with an excel file but I can't seem to find any
 documentation on how to perform a query on the file. I have tried
 referencing it my the excel sheet name and by file name. Please Help

OK, here's how it would be used;
The ODBC source points to the file
The "table name" is the sheet name with a $ on the end, but always put
square brackets around it; [Sheet1$]
Row 1 MUST, I repeat, MUST be the column names
Once a column is decided upon (setting in the ODBC) for it's data type, it's
GOT to be that datatype, other types will be ignored (i.e. putting some text
in a column that starts as numeric will return a NULL)
Formatting for visual needs means nothing to ODBC, it's the actual data
which determines it's type - you must FORCE it to be text if you want text

On this point, unless you want to release the ODBC before you upload, then
use an Access database and Link Table to point to it, but the same ODBC
limitations apply

How to force a cell to be text;
You need a "copy" column beside it and put the following formula into it;
=Mid("'"a2,2,Len(a2))
Assuming that A2 is the cell that contains the original data

Also, Sometimes you get blank rows at the bottom of the table, these DO
count as rows - so be very careful about this...

Custom Tags for CF Logs

Any recommendations on tags for viewing th CF Logs?

I downloaded Ben Forta's CFX tag but it seems that the latest version was

I like the way this tag works though, returns results as query results thus
I can manipulate them myself.

Can anyone recommend something similar?

You really have two problems here.

1. How should you generate large reports?

2. What format should you use for these large reports?

Question 2 is easiest to answer, so I'll start with that one. As some other
people here have already suggested, CSV works fine for this.

Question 1 is more serious. Whenever you generate large reports with CF, you
may severely affect the performance of your server, as you've discovered.
The key to success with these tasks is to minimize the amount of work that
gets done when someone requests a report - the work done at "runtime".

There are lots of ways you can do this. You could create a scheduled task
that generates the report during off-peak hours. You could use something
other than CF, which is best used for tasks that require runtime work. For
example, you might be able to write code in the database to output your
query to a file. You could migrate this functionality to a different server,
so that it doesn't affect people using the CF server. In some cases, using
denormalized data stores such as OLAP might help. There are lots of options
here - the key, again, is to figure out which will put the least amount of
work on CF while CF is being used by others.

RE: Dateformat behaviour

2001-02-14 Thread Bert Dawson

I think what's happening is that you're misusing the dateformat() function: it expects
a date object, but you're passing it a string.
DateFormat() misguidedly (IMHO) does its best to convert the string into a date, first
using the US month/day/year format, and when that fails, it tries the english
day/month/year format.
Once it has a something it can use as a date then it formats it to the mask you
specify.

To avoid this sort of thing, always pass around dates as actual date objects, and only
use the DateFormat when dumping a date onto a page, and when you need to do dB stuff
then CreateODBCDate should do the trick.

If you have users inputting dates, then as _soon_ as you get them, use CreateDate() to
create a date object.

This way you know that any dates you are handling are date objects rather than
strings, and you shouldn't run into this sort of unexpected behaviour.

HTH.

 Can *anyone* shed any light on this? Please?

 Help!

 Sometime yesterday around 19:49, my CF Server started
 throwing pcode errors
 by the hundreds, like this:

 unknown exception condition
 PCodeRuntimeContextImp::setVariableThe error
 occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
 (CFSCHEDULE), occupying document position (3:1) to (5:13).Date/Time:
 02/11/01 21:51:28Browser: Remote Address: Template:
 C:\CFUSION\Scripts\cfexectask.cfmQuery String: TASK=check for
 db upload

 (all of them in cfschedule processing)
 ..and right about the same time, this simple piece of code:

 CFQUERY NAME="Getcarbrands" DATASOURCE="dsn"
   SELECT distinct Merk FROM Cars
 /CFQUERY

 SELECT name="Merk"
   CFOUTPUT QUERY="Getcarbrands"
   OPTION VALUE="#Merk#"#Merk#/OPTION
   /cfoutput
 /SELECT

 started throwing this exception:

 QUERY The QUERY attribute of the tag does not specify the name of an
 available query
 The error occurred while processing an element with a general
 identifier of
 (CFOUTPUT), occupying document position (270:1) to (270:31)

 I have ab-so-lu-te-ly no idea why this happened, and a simple
 cycle of CF
 apparently took care of the problem.

 Any ideas why this would happen? It *is* one of our only
 remaining CF 4.0.1
 servers, but it has plenty RAM HD and it has been running
 for some time
 without that particular problem ever cropping up before.

RE: Parsing Headache (Removing Multiple Images)

2001-02-14 Thread Seva Petrov

Steve,

Why not try something easier:

cfscript
  output = Trim(CFHTTP.FileContent);
  output = REReplaceNoCase(output, "img[^/]+[/]?", "", "all");
/cfscript

 OK.. I am writing a tag with CFHTTP to blah, blah, blah... it
 works fine.
 Now I want to port my application to the Palm Pilot so I want
 to remove the
 images from the output. Here's my line of thinking at the moment...

 cfscript
  output = #Trim(CFHTTP.FileContent)#;
  imageStart =#Find("img", output, 1)#;
  imageEnd = #Find("", output, imageStart)#;
  imageLen = imageEnd - imageStart + 1;
  output = #Replace(output, Mid(output, imageStart, imageLen),
 "", "ONE")#;
 /cfscript

 This works great in removing the first image.

 My Question:

 How can I loop this some how to remove all images without
 knowing how many
 are on the page? Fortunatly there are only 1-3 per page. I've
 been racking
 my brain for hours over this one.. any takers?

 Thanks,
 Steve

Have you looked at NCompass plug-in? I am not sure if they still make it,
but thats what we use for problems similiar to yours.

 I have an ActiveX control that I need to be cross-browser. I have a
plug-in
 for Netscape that will allow the control to be run, but unfortunately it
 will not install the control first... the only way I can currently do it
is
 to force the user to view the page first in IE and then the control will
 work (via the plug-in) in Netscape. Can anyone tell me if there is a way
to
 force an ActiveX control (it is a .cab file containing an .ocx and an
..inf)
 to install?

Try:

cfhttp method="get" URL="http://apple.excite.com/"
cfset cleanText = ReReplaceNoCase(CFHTTP.FileContent, "IMG[^]*",

It seems that you could use REReplace and a regular expression to strip out
any images, although it would take me a little work to come up with a
proper regex.

Re: Urgent.... please help...

2001-02-14 Thread James Smith

On paper? No I don't think you do, but I have had several of CF's settings
not take full effect until the service was restarted, even when the paper
said is wasn't needed. I would give it a try and see what happens, worst
case is that your sites are offline for 10 seconds while you stop and
restart the service, do it at 2am and no body will notice.

PDFs, Linotronic PS Drivers, Forms and Adobe Licensing

2001-02-14 Thread Eric Dawson

So this guy says to me. It's be cool if ...

I think I heard some comments on using Adobe Distiller on an Internet Server
is in violation of the Adobe license for Distiller? Is this true?

Here is what I am thinking.

We create a basic site with an info centre to post how to's and help etc. We
have downloads for people to use, basically we'll kick start a community
driven file sharing centre. The documents available for download will be
document design templates in the myriad of available formats, quark, word,
whatever.

We want to be able to create a printable format document and have decided on
PDF. We want to dynamically generate the print document on the server, as a
proof to the creator, and as a distributable print document to the digital
printer. And also include a basic work docket as well, type of paper,
shipping information etc.

More or less, without actually seeing it work is to output to a common post
script format (created using a free linotronic PS driver?) to be uploaded to
the server using a form. Distiller can be used to watch the upload
directory, and automatically create the PDF. After creation, a ticket is
sent to the creator to approve the PDF for printing. Once approved we
distribute to the printer for printing.

So

Question 1: What are the licensing issues regarding the use of Distiller on
a public Server?

Question 2: Performance?

Question 3: Other Alternatives?

Question 4: Current examples of people doing something similar.

Question 5: Is there a way to programmatically enhance the print driver to
automatically post the PS to the Internet Server? Other Alternatives?
Implementations?

Thanks
Eric

RE: Custom Tags for CF Logs

2001-02-14 Thread Benjamin S. Rogers

I haven't had great luck with any of the other existing tags/applications
out there. I've had the best luck with LogViewer. However, the new price tag
on it is difficult to justify.

There is a new tag debuting in ColdFusion 5 called CFLOG. Hopefully, this
will simplify the task a bit and promote some better application built for
managing the ColdFusion log files.

Any recommendations on tags for viewing th CF Logs?

I downloaded Ben Forta's CFX tag but it seems that the latest version was
only meant for version 3 of CF...=P

I like the way this tag works though, returns results as query results thus
I can manipulate them myself.

Can anyone recommend something similar?
