OT: Copyright Attorney

2006-03-11 Thread Bud
Can anyone point me to a reasonably priced attorney that will deal
with people buying my cf_ezcart, then selling it as their own, even
using going so far as using my html source for the features page.

LAST CALL for any member of the Canberra MMUG

2006-03-11 Thread Mike Kear
Sorry for the off-topic post, and for cross-posting, but I'm looking for
anyone - ANYONE AT ALL - who knows something about the Canberra Macromedia
Users Group, or what's become of it.

I've been hosting their website at my expense for a couple of years, and
there's been no changes to the site in more than a year. Emails to the
latest contact I have go unanswered, so I wonder if there is a CMMUG at all
any more. Does anyone know?

I'm going to delete their site, emailboxes and all their files this week
unless someone lets me know they still exist.

RE: Copyright Attorney

2006-03-11 Thread Steve Kahn
Bud,

If you haven’t gotten any references yet, consider this:
A) Lawyer specialty = intellectual property combined with commercial
contract negotiations.
B) Lawyers have to pass a Bar exam administered by the state they practice
in. Therefore, contacting your state bar association will usually lead you
to a 800 number directory with qualifications. Here in NY, when you use the
state system they provide you with a first time referral fee of $25 for
speaking with the attorney you chose. Not bad huh. Though it can take up to
3 tries to get a good match.
C) The best way to protect intellectual property is thru filing for a
patient, and/or trademarks etc, as plagiarism / copyright cases are
expensive and timely to pursue.

Hope that helps.
Steve

Is this illegal in query of queries?

2006-03-11 Thread Johnny Le
Does query of queries allow sub queries? I get this error:

Query Of Queries syntax error.
Encountered USERID NOT IN ( SELECT. Incorrect conditional expression, Expected
one of [like|null|between|in|comparison] condition,

When I tried to run this statement:

(SELECT USERID, HOMEADDR AS ADDRESS FROM QURYUSERS WHERE NOT HOMEADDR IS NULL)
UNION
(SELECT USERID, BUSADDR AS ADDRESS FROM QURYUSERS WHERE USERID NOT IN (
SELECT USERID FROM QRYUSERS WHERE NOT HOMEADDR IS NULL)
AND NOT BUSADDR IS NULL)

This statement runs perfectly fine in SQL Query Analyzer.

I am using CFMX 7 and MS SQL Server 2000. Is something wrong with my
statement? Is there a better to write this statement?

Re: Is this illegal in query of queries?

2006-03-11 Thread Robert Munn
I don't see anything about support for subqueries, I would be surprised if they
were supported. Even if they were, I would seriously re-think using a QofQ
instead of operating against the database. If you read the notes on QofQ,
you'll see that performance really lags on complex operations.

Not yet...I just downloaded it to play with it. We do use it at work. I
didn't design the application...my boss did before I started working there.
It's a pretty cool app that locates former customers so our CSR's can try
and get them back in the fold. It uses a Google map and pinpoints the
customers within a certain radius.

If it is SQL Server, do this

   SELECT  SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS id
/cfquery
That will give you the correct identity id

Subject: SQL-generated primary keys

Here's a question I've been wrestling wtih.

Suppose that there is an HTML form to create a new user. When the form
is submitted, that user's information is added to the 'user' table.
The table uses an auto-increment integer for its primary key/user id,
so I'd like to grab that value for the newly created user.

I've been using queries like this one: SELECT MAX(user_id) FROM
users, but I worry that if two users are created at the same time,
then my query might give me the user id of the wrong user.

Is there a better way to do this? Or maybe I shouldn't even worry about
this?

Thanks.
Chris
