Re: Facade Vs Service objects

2007-11-05 Thread Brian Kotek
A facade is meant to simplify the interface to an underlying object (or set
of objects), or to reduce dependencies between the underlying objects and
the client of the facade. So in that sense, a Service Layer object may often
act as a facade. However, Service Layer is also a pattern in its own right
and usually has logic or transaction handling that would go beyond the usual
definition of a facade. So I would say that while the two are similar in
some ways, a Service Layer is specifically meant to encapsulate the domain
model and provide functionality that spans multiple domain objects (usually
things like transactions, concurrency, caching, and directing calls to
multiple different domain objects). Facades, on the other hand, can exist
anywhere that needs a simplified interface to something. Hopefully that
helps make the distinction.

RE: Regex search problem

2007-11-05 Thread Bobby Hartsfield
The option is called 'returnsubexpressions' and valid values are true or
false. You can only return one instance of a match with refind() (and
possibly one instance of a sub expression match if you use parens in the
expression). To get more, you have to run the function again with a
different starting position (I chose to change the string rather than the
starting position).

At least that's what the docs say. Do you have a working example of what you
are talking about with 'all' because if you can get them all at once... that
would be very nice to say the least.

I also don't see how I'm running it twice per loop unless you are counting
the actual condition of the loop?

But I am not having much success in getting cfinvoke to work dynamically. I
believe the correct way to do this is by using cfargumentcollection. I am
able to cfdump a structure called args showing the field name and form

Really? I thought that is what I was using in 6.1. I'm sure the docs
can set you straight on what syntax is correct.

Regardless, you are running the regex twice per loop, which is at least
twice as often as you need to. Even if you have to run it once per
loop, run it, store it, and check what you stored.

RE: MS SQL Mirroring and CF

2007-11-05 Thread Chad Gray
Thanks Brad,

I just checked when you setup a database in windows's odbc data source
administrator. There is a check box when you are adding a new datasource for
"Use the failover SQL server if the primary SQL server is not available". So
this check box must be available if the setup detects that the database is
mirrored.

I will have to setup a datasource that is mirrored and try it out.

Thanks!

I am reading up on mirroring our MS SQL server.

What I have read you can setup a second server with a second
installation of MS SQL. The licensing allows for this also so you don't
have to buy two copies.

Now you can mirror from one server to the other.

Now my question is say you primary server fails and goes off line. The
mirrored server kicks in.

How do you get your CF server to look for the database on the mirrored
server? Obviously the two servers cannot have the same IP or name since
they are on the same network.

Hi Jeff,

You could set up a listener and have it refresh the other tabs after the
update. Now since you are doing this all asynchronously you run the risk of
the user clicking on another tab before the refresh. You could however make
that one call synchronous by putting up a "Saving Change" mask.

Hi,

I'm trying to get IIS (Windows XP) to read .txt files through CF, just

So I defined the same configuration for .txt extensions as for .cfm.
It works under CF 5, but with CF 7 all I get is an empty page.
Is there any other setting necessary in CF itself in order to get it
working?
What am I missing?

RE: MS SQL Mirroring and CF

2007-11-05 Thread Chad Gray
I have the book "SQL Server 2005 Unleashed". It is saying you have three
servers. You Principal Server, Witness Server and Mirror Server. The Witness
server is what decides when to switch over to the Mirror Server.

What about adding some code in Application.cfm so if I get a database error to
change my application.dsn variable (that all of the CFQuery tags will be using)
to the backup servers DSN.

So I just have both databases setup in Coldfusion one for the Principal Server
and one for the Mirror Server just flip my application variable based on if the
server is responding.

Sounds kind of flaky.

Rich and anyone else who's listening :)

I have been successfull in creating objects from the SMPP.JAR classes with my
coldfusion module. However, I'm not being successful in sending a message yet.
I have looked at the smpptest.java. One problem I have in converting this to
Coldfusion is the Byte TYPE. Some of the parameters needed are supposed to be
BYTE type but I don't think I can do that in ColdFusion directly. Can anyone
suggest how to proceed?

I'm still looking for an example of anyone who has done this in coldfusion mx
6.1.

Thanks!

Don't do the refind() in the loop. Running it once with "all" specified
will return (you're right on this one) a struct of arrays. It will find
all of the matches (hence scope "all" :-P).

You then only need to loop over the results. Much more efficient.

Plus, OMG, you're using a condition that runs the regex and throws away
the answer. Don't do that. Ever. Please. It makes me weep.

questions on CF8 reporting

2007-11-05 Thread Jane zheng
Hi there,

I need to build and print 4 reports and labels for one of my web applications.
I have tried cfdocument, but the reports didn't have the formats the users
wants and I couldn't print labels properly. I am thinking to try cfreport. Here
I got a few questions:

1. since the report builder is only available to Windows users, how do I create
CFR files if I don't have report builder? Would you please point me to some
locations that have this type of info? I have did some searching, but did not
find the necessary info.

2. Is it possible to build Avery labels without using report builder?

3. Do I need to install any component in order to use cfreport? Are there any
security concerns when using cfreport?

thanks a lot.

I haven't tried SVN yet.

Any thoughts?

RE: list help

2007-11-05 Thread Bobby Hartsfield
I convert IPs to numbers anytime I deal with ranges. It makes it much easier
and more efficient to work with ranges. I don't mean that I convert them to
their actual decimal values, I just make sure each octet is 3 digits and
remove the (.)

It's much simpler than converting them to their decimal values or binary
equivalents but it is a one way conversion since you won't be able to
convert it back to an IP address without knowing where the dots go.

Examples:
192.168.0.1 = 19216801
192.168.0.50 = 19216850
192.168.0.255 = 192168000255
10.0.0.1 = 0101
10.0.0.255 = 01000255

I store the actual IP and its number in the database so I can just use
simple number comparison in my SQL to get IPs within certain ranges or
whatever. But, like I said, since you can't always convert the number back
to the IP address, you would need to store the IP as well.

Here are some functions I wrote the other day for use in my current project.
Maybe you or someone can get some use out of them.

Iptonumber() converts an IP to the above format
validIPRange() uses iptonumber() to convert a start and ending ip to numbers
and ensure the starting IP is less than the ending IP address, thus ensuring
a valid range
validIP() just ensures that an IP address is between 1.0.0.0 and
255.255.255.255
ipisinrange() takes 3 IP addresses, uses iptonumber() to convert them to
numbers then ensures that IP1 is between IP2 and IP3

I would try something like 192\.29\.13\.[0-9]{1,3} although this will
match 192.29.13.1 to 192.29.13.999 as well,
but if you are getting the IP from the HTTP request, there is no
possibility the last number is larger than 255,
so it should do it.

You have several options depending on the setup of your network:
- nbtstat
- nslookup
- grep the dhcpserver log files for a MAC address and look that up in
the hardware database

Re: Apache default template hand-off

2007-11-05 Thread Todd
To clarify, it depends on how you have things setup on apache server.

For example:
http://www.web-rat.com/test/

Throws a "403 Forbidden" because I don't allow folder browsing. I believe
you can tell Apache to do something else instead via directives.

MS SQL Mirroring and CF

2007-11-05 Thread Chad Gray
I am reading up on mirroring our MS SQL server.

What I have read you can setup a second server with a second installation of MS
SQL. The licensing allows for this also so you don't have to buy two copies.

Now you can mirror from one server to the other.

Now my question is say you primary server fails and goes off line. The
mirrored server kicks in.

How do you get your CF server to look for the database on the mirrored server?
Obviously the two servers cannot have the same IP or name since they are on the
same network.

Thanks,
Chad

Tab Layout and forms questions...

2007-11-05 Thread J W
Ok.. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction here..

I will simplify my example here to more easily demonstrate my problem.

I have two tabs using Cflayout.

Lets call them PREFS and SUBSCRIPTIONS.

PREFS TAB.
This tab allows you to edit two inputs
Primary Email Address
Secondary Email Address

SUBSCRIPTIONS TAB
This tab say has multiple newsletter subscriptions. Check box in front and a
drop down selector that displays the actual Primary and Secondary addresses
in the selector for each.

[ ] Daily News Letter [email address selector]
[ ] Weekly News Letter [email address selector]
[ ] Monthly News Letter [email address selector]
=
Here is the issue. If I change either the Primary or secondary email address
asynchronously via CFAJAXPROXY in the first tab, the second tab still has
the OLD email addresses in the drop down.

Is this one of those instances that a traditional form is a better solution,
or there a way to change the selections on other tabs to reflect changes in
the first tab?

Thanks,
Jeff

RE: CF Image question...

2007-11-05 Thread Rick Faircloth
That's exactly the system of maintenance/use I had settled on, James.
And, yes, it's gd to have the original that a client will ultimately
need and not be able to find. ;o)

I'm going to setup folder structures that will handle all the versions I will
need for a site, such as:

- Original
- Width_400
- Width_100

Etc... whatever the site will call for. And I can add variations as I need to.
And if space should ever become an issue, I can always burn the older orginals
to a CD or backup to my FTP/Backup server on my network for archiving.

It's going to be really nice to be able to upload a photo and have the versions
created and deposited in their folders all at once by CF. It has be a *real
pain*
to have to teach clients how to resize a photo to 400 pixels and to not upload
an
original photo that would be displayed as a popup that was 2000 pixels wide!
And
then they wonder what's wrong with the website!

Thanks for the tip.

Adding sound to an application

2007-11-05 Thread Toby King
I have an application which I have been working on for a little while.

Basically the application displays different output according to times. i.e.
when a booking with a personal trainer has less than 5 minutes to go the
display of remaining time is highlighted.

I was wondering if it might be possible as well as displaying the rmaining time
as being highlighted whether it would be possible to attach a sound to this
event as well.

I guuess something as simple as a sound when an email message arrives in
Microsoft Outlook would be OK.

I look forward to what people know about this as to if its possible and also
how it would be done.

Regards

Getting a computer name by ip address.

2007-11-05 Thread Ian Skinner
Earlier this year (at a different company) I created a script that would
run a windows dos command that would return a computer name and other
information by IP address across a cooperate LAN. I was able to run
this command with cfexecute, parse out the computer name and display it
on the top of intranent web pages. This was of great benefit for the
help desk to determine what computer users where calling about.

For the life of me, my sleep deprived addled brain can not recall the
dos command that did this! Can anybody help me out of my fuzz.

TIA
Ian Skinner

Re: Regex search problem

2007-11-05 Thread Web Exp
Thanks Ray...
Ok... I guess I should have clarified that I am using CF MX7, so I
cannot use reMatch function.
Also, what I am looking for is to find a list of numbers between the
strings: "testId" and "Text" in this pattern:
"testId67Text more text more text testId49Text more text testId54Text
more text". I need to extract 67,49,54.
Note: I do not need all the umbers, I want them only if they are
present in that pattern.

Thanks,
K

provided that there are no other sort of numbers in the field.
If yes, see CF_REextract here:
http://www.contentbox.com/claude/customtags/REextract/testREextract.cfm

You can test it here:
http://www.contentbox.com/claude/customtags/REextract/testingREextract.cfm
1. enter testId in RE1
2. enter [^0-9] in RE2
3. enter testId67Text more text more text testId49Text more text
testId54Text more text in Sample text
4. click the Test button,... and poof! you get what you want!
5. go to http://www.cftagstore.com/?page=viewtag&tagId=96
and get yourself this little gem! ;-)

You can convert an IP address to a numeric value using:

(A * (256 ^ 3)) + (B * (256 ^ 2)) + (C * 256) + D = numeric IP

So to calculate the IP Address 192.168.0.1, you'd use the following formula:

(192 * 16777216) + (168 * 65536) + (0 * 256) + 1
  3221225472 +11010048 + 0 + 1

Exactly, and there is a function to do this in CFLib.org:

And if you're familiar with regExp, see this one too:

Re: CF Image question...

2007-11-05 Thread James Edmunds
In my applications, I tend to upload the original into one directory and
keep it there, then resize and drop the resized image into the directory
where it will be normally accessed. While this would obviously not work in a
case where the volume of unsized uploads would cause disk storage problems,
I like it because it means that the original is at hand for me if there is
some problem along the way... and, if some client calls and says, do you
have that picture we uploaded, but we need the original, we lost it, I can
produce it for them.

Experience fine tunes paranoia,

James

SOT: Where to buy CF8 WACK (probably again)

2007-11-05 Thread C. Hatton Humphrey
I just got a notice from Amazon.com that Parts 2 and 3 of the CF8 WACK
are being delayed -

Part 2 is scheduled to arrive between 11/29 and 12/1.
Part 3 is scheduled to arrive between 12/28 and 12/31

This represents almost a month's delay!

I did a quick look at BN.com and they're showing November ship
dates... have they just not updated their product info or would it be
worth it for me to tell Amazon to cancel the order and re-order from
BN?

Or is there a better place to order from?

Thanks!
Hatton

Make an array? append 0->225 on the end of 192.29.22 and then do your
checks/show the list of what's available?

Robert,

I don't know how to do this offhand, but you can convert IP addresses to
a single big integer number. What you could do is figure out the start
IP and end IP numbers, then do a simple FOR loop. For each loop
iteration, you could take that number and convert it back to an IP
address and check it. Not 100% how that would work, but maybe this can
point you in a good direction.

I would like to create a list of IP addresses, let's say, 192.29.22.0 to
192.29.22.255 and then with the list of IPs I already have of valid
users in the same range, search through and find ones that don't match
the range.

For example, I would like the code to search through 192.29.22.0 to
192.29.22.255 and match IPs I have within this range and then list out
IPs that are not there. If I have IP 192.29.22.122 in my list it should
find a match within the range and do nothing, but if my list does not
have IP 192.29.22.100 then it should flag this IP as available.

Is there an easy way to do this without typing in the whole 192.29.22.0
to 192.29.22.255 range? Do I use a list function?

Thanks.

Subject: list help

Thanks.

I agree... that seems to be the best route. Nice to have the image tools,
however.

Re: adding time

2007-11-05 Thread Brian McCairn
when you execute a function like this

#DateAdd('h', 1, finishdate)#

you are not changing the value of finishdate .

That's why finishdate isn't changing and, as mentioned above, you need to set a
new variable, or reassign the old one, like this

Now newFinishDate will be an hour later than finishDate and finishDate is
unchanged

CFImage cannot read take a filefield like CFFile can (for upload)...
However, CFImage source attribute CAN accept a binary blob type object.
Theoretically, you can get this directly out of the FORM data without
saving it to the system. If you forgo the CFFile upload portion, you
MIGHT be able to grab the binary file value directly out out of the
Request data.

Now, I don't know how to do this :) I don't know how you parse a
multipart form data object (which is what the request is at that point I
think). However, I don't think all this overhead is worth it. You might
as well just upload it, then use CFImage to resize and OVERWRITE the
uploaded file.

I didn't know if there was some function that pulled the image into the
server, then resized it, stored the resized file and deleted the
original.

I guess all this is possible with the various functions.

I just didn't know if an intermediary step had been introduced to the
typical cffile upload process.

Re: adding time

2007-11-05 Thread Toby King
Hi there

Almost have it working

Date is: #dateformat (finishdate, "DD-MMM-")#
Time is: #timeformat(finishdate, "hh:mm:ss")#
#DateAdd('h', 1, finishdate)#

New finish date is: #dateformat (finishdate, "DD-MMM-")#

#timeformat(finishdate, "hh:mm:ss")#

New finish date is: #dateformat (finishdate1, "DD-MMM-")#

#timeformat(finishdate1, "hh:mm:ss")#

Where I have this line:\

#DateAdd('h', 1, finishdate)#
the date displays correctly advancing 1 hour or advancing the specified time.
But when I go to use thge date later in the program it reverts back to the
original date.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks

RE: adding time

2007-11-05 Thread ColdFusion
First problem is your SQL shows you are setting both the start and finished
times with the same form field.
Second which still pertains to your SQL, if bookingID is an integer field
then your where clause should be without the single quotes.

Third, you need to calculate the finish time from the starttime plus the
time submitted by the user.

Example:

Then you can use: #CreateODBCDateTime(newFinishTime)# for your update
statement
