Re: Good Release Management Software
Hi Mike, Absolutely, that is exactly what I intended. Yes, I need to find software that automatically identifies what is different between the current release (residing on the client) and the current/new release (which we will give to clients). A good installer/release mgt software would typically do this job without requiring any manual intervention. So, I simply give this nice 'installer' or script to the client and perhaps not directly the plain vanilla files (.cfm, .cfc, etc.) and then it will do all the necessary things to upgrade the version. I can log in directly to the deployment environments but I usually do so to install the first release of the software or if there is a major change involved. Typically, we submit files directly to clients and then let their administrators install the change as we instruct them. Joseph. To clarify, it sounds like your goal is to identify the differences between the version of the software each client is running and the current version, and to automatically bundle together all the files that are different between the two versions so that you can give the customers only the files needed to upgrade. Is that correct? For deployment, is your goal to create an installer executable file that the customer can double-click on to have the new files added, or do you control the deployment by being able to directly upload to the customer's servers? -Mike Chabot ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:320051 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4

Re: Chrome now higher traffic than IE on some of my sites
The users could easily be a-typical for all i know.In my case, the sample is fairly small, and I never suggested it was representative of the internet as a whole. The bigger of the two sites I've used is a radio station. It has 54,000 user sessions in that set of stats. All I was saying is it's the first time I've seen IE as not the top browser.(one swallow does not a summer make!) There are people at the radio station who try to tell me that the world is going mac and we ought to be replacing our network to macs. I say these stats dont support that, at least in our case, and whether or not we should replace our network to macs needs to be for a reason other than 'thats what everyone else is using'! (which was never a good reason in the first place!) There were those who were saying not all that long ago that IE was a gonner, and we'd all best pay attention to Opera. Then along came Firefox, now I'd suggest it's anyone's race and the main contenders are IE, Firefox, Chrome and all the others together add up to a long way behind. The significance for us as web developers is that all this competition is tending towards standardisation. If things had been different, it could easily have gone along the lines of our browser is better because it has all these proprietary commands it understands. Remember how it was in the days when Netscape and IE were the only ones on the block? They would each try to outdo each other with new features they were developing and the whole idea of standardisation was a pipe dream. We had to develop a IE version and a Netscape version of our sites. Now, the browsers are fighting with each other to be more standard than the others. THAT makes life a LOT easier for us! As long as no one has any overpowering majority, they all have to pay attention to each other. Question about getting data sent to iFrame for use on main page...
I've been experimenting with uploading files via iFrame targeting. I've got everything working well concerning the uploading, including having the file processing done by a component method. I've also begun to include other type of form inputs and can process those in the method. However, I'm stumped on how to get access to the form values back on the main page that contains the iFrame. My instincts tell me that the very nature of what I'm doing (uploading images and targeting the results back to an iFrame in the main page) will prevent me from getting access to any variables for display in the main page without refreshing the main page. So, it would seem that the only way to upload files and form values and display that information back on the main page containing the iFrame target would be to make the iFrame visible and use it as part of the main page's display. All the tutorials I've read show how to upload files using this Ajax technique (and yes, according to dictionary.com, Ajax has outgrown its meaning as an acronym only, to mean any method of transferring data without refreshing a page. (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML: A collection of techniques for creating interactive web applications without having to reload the complete web page in response to each user input, thus making the interaction faster. dictionary.com.including iFrames, for you Ajax purists), but none show a method of using that data on the page containing the iFrame. (Perhaps I could use jQuery from the iFrame to target elements on the main page and change the values of those elements without refreshing.???) Make sense? Does this seem correct? Are there other means of achieving my goal? Thanks for any input! RE: IIS6 / CFIDE configuration problems
Joel, You can set the scripts directory in the CF Admin (look on the settings tab). The setting goes from the root of your web site... So, for example, You could use a virtual map called cfscripts that points to the /cfide/scripts/ directory - and then add /cfscripts/ to your default script src directory in the CF Admin. The second thing is, the script src=/cfide/... ... only shows up if you call a cf tag that needs it or you use CFAJAXIMPORT to specifically identify the tag libraries you want. So in your example below you cannot expect the script include to appear because you haven't done anything to specifically call it. Hope this helps :) -Mark Mark A. If the customer requires any custom functionality, I put that code, along with any other site-specific code such as layout templates, stylesheets, etc. in a separate directory that is then mapped as a virtual directory in IIS to /site -- let's call this c:\inetpub\wwwroot\sites\site_name The problem that I'm having is that I'm using an application.cfc file in the web root (c:\inetpub\wwwroot\app\core\application.cfc); all of the core site functionality that is under this path works 100% correctly. However, the CF files in the /site virtual directory (c:\inetpub\wwwroot\sites\site_name) are not finding the application.cfc file in the web root. This is pretty much a show-stopper for me, and I need a way to resolve this -- many of the files in /site need access to the variables that I'm setting in the application.cfc file. The site is hosted on a shared server, so I don't have access to the CF administrator. Other than putting a copy of the application.cfc file in the /site root (which I don't want to do, since I don't want to duplicate code), is there a solution for this problem? Can I create a shell application.cfc file and call each of the methods from the root application.cfc file? How would I do this in a way that wouldn't cause issues? Re: Problem with mapped IIS directory
Pete, including is one way, but it's messy. Check into the application proxy pattern. It works like this /Application.cfc - extends com.ApplicationProxy, otherwise empty /com/ApplicationProxy.cfc - contains your real application's methods /virtual/Application.cfc - extends com.ApplicationProxy, usually otherwise empty The (file folder) names are made up, but the problems are real. Re: CFMX7 Flash Forms not working on server
Check to see that the /CFIDE IIS mapping is in place. This is usually where I have issues with flash forms, and other nifty UI widgets not working. Re: Good Release Management Software
Absolutely, that is exactly what I intended. Why bother? Why not simply redeploy the entire app, using CAR or EAR/WAR options? Re: displaying a tree structure
Use the group-by function. How do I loop over this data to display the tree dynamically? I have used Loops with queries to get each levels childs, but the way I wrote it I have to have a loop for each level. What if I have unlimited childs? My loops will only display as many childs as I have loops. Maybe there is a better way to structure the data in the first place. I already have this in the CF Admin for the * Default ScriptSrc Directory *: /CIDE/scripts/ It's weird, because a folder like this locally works: SITE1/folder/floder/index.cfm On Tue, Mar 3, 2009 at 1:42 PM, Mark Kruger mkru...@cfwebtools.com wrote: Joel, You can set the scripts directory in the CF Admin (look on the settings tab).
