Licensing on CKEditor - included?

2010-08-18 Thread Mike Kear

Is this true? - we can replace the existing FCKEditor in our
ColdFusion with the updates to CKEditor because it's already licensed
to Adobe as part of ColdFusion? (And therefore since we've paid for a
licence for ColdFusion that in turn has paid Fred for a licence for
CKEditor).

True or not?

High ASCII characters and jQuery

2010-08-18 Thread Rick Root

Hi,

I've got a page where data is loaded into a table. This is done via
two methods, one method uses standard cf/html and the second uses
jquery to populate the table based on specified criteria.

One of our users has some odd characters in their data... trailing
ASCII 160s. In the standard CF output, these show up as spaces, which
is apparently fine.. but in the jquery method, they show up as funky
question mark/block characters - in all browsers.

The jquery calls are going directly to a cfc method with
returntype="JSON" .. when viewed in firebug, I see the space, but in
the HTML output I see the funky block questionmark.

I think this is an issue of character set but I'm really not sure what
to do here.

Screenshot:  http://www.classcreator.com/rick_work/funkychar.jpg

Thanks.

Rick

Re: Alternatives to CFFM?

2010-08-18 Thread Mike Kear

Thanks Kym.Your experience is worrying for me - I LIKE the new
version with its neat ajax image calls to give a little thumbnail of
each image etc. But if you guys gave up on it, I had better learn
from your experience. That's been a policy that's never failed me
before. If'n you guys cant get it going within a reasonable time,
then I need to seriously think about whether I should put more time in
on it too.

I guess that's why Rick doesn't answer emails about it.

Sigh.

We had exactly the same issue when we upgraded CFFM in our CMS to the
latest version of CFFM with the flash tools. After much messing around
and wasted time we decided it was a path issue in the code that we could
not find so we back-pedalled to the last, non-flash version which works
fine with both CKeditor or TinyMCE.

Just a suggestion to find out content in error page.

You can try using fiddler is a web debugger can help to display the html
text or any other data you are looking for.

Not sure what the exact error is here, but file upload errors are almost
always an error of security or directory permissions. What web server are
you running? Have to looked at those logs?

No, thats the problem. There is no right click menu at all. As you
see on the screen shot at http://picpaste.com/alacastina02.jpg there's
no way to see what the error is, because the code that's displayed on
the popup is only the header part of the error page. The actual error
is in the <[ CDATA part that's off the side of the screen.

The only option offered is to click OK.

The "Please Log In" in the title of the HTML that's coming back in
that popup suggests your upload script isn't authenticating properly.
Is it under the same Application.cfc/cfm as the rest of your app?

firebug?

Can you right-click the popup and view source? That should at least
give you the full error.

Here are two screen shots that illustrate what I'm facing every time i
try to upload using CFFM:

http://picpaste.com/alacastina01.jpg is a general image of the screen
when the error occurs,  and
http://picpaste.com/alacastina02.jpg shows a closer image of the error
popup. Since this doesnt allow cut and paste, i can never see the
rest of the message, so i can never know what this error is caused by.

Thanks John, I dont think its a CF error, thats the problem.A
narrow very tall popup appears (taller than the window) with a whole
lot of code in it, generated by javascript I assume, but since it's
in a popup, you cant cut and paste any of the content into a code
editor, and its so large you cant see all of it, so it never renders
properly. SO I don't know what the error is, or what's causing it,
only what point in the process it appears.

Alternatives to CFFM?

2010-08-18 Thread Mike Kear

Are there any good alternatives to CFFM? I have had a client's anger
at me for over a month now, because we can't get the upload to work.
I've written to Rick Root five times, and had no response, so i have
to assume he's walked away from CFFM now.

That means i have to find some alternative to it.The problem we've
got is we get an error message that can't be read whenever we try to
upload. I asked Rick to help me figure out what might be causing
the problem, but he doesnt answer my emails.

So what i'm looking for is a way to upload image files from FCKEditor,
and manage the image directories. If CFFM worked as advertised, it
would be perfect, but since RIck's walked away from it I'm stuck now.

Any suggestions where I should go now?

Re: Image manipulation code: unit testing approach

2010-08-18 Thread Alan Rother

You should have a set of baseline images that you know the source of. Things
you made in Photoshop using your digital camera, that you can validate the
color space and dimensions of.

I would also collect random images from around the web from various sources
such as a Google Image search, Flickr, Picasa and such. This will give you
the random element that tends to come in from user generated content...

The more random the better, in fact using a random URL generator and
grabbing the first image would be a good idea.

Here are some common things I've seen that CAN break image processing:

   - Wrong color space: ie CMYK
   - Bad formatting in the image exif data
   - embedded color profiles

Re: Image manipulation code: unit testing approach

2010-08-18 Thread Pete Freitag

Hi Dominic,

I think when it comes to image files you will want to have some local
test files, because you can potentially run into issues with the way
different image editors save files. If you generate all your test
image files through your test code, then your test environment may not
represent real world scenario (unless you generate all the images used
in your system).

RE: How to specify different webroots for development and production in application.cfc

2010-08-18 Thread Rick Faircloth

Thanks, Sean...

I actually thought of that and then I thought,
"No, it couldn't be that simple." So, instead of trying it,
I just typed that long explanation and question.

Now, I've just got to rewrite the paths for images and components.
Components paths are a pain that way, with their dot notation.

But, I just create two variables:

#application.activeWebroot#
#application.componentDirectory#

Satisfies image and component paths, at least.

Who know what else I'll run into...

Now, to rewrite all the paths in the entire site. Sigh...

Thanks!

Rick

How to specify different webroots for development and production in application.cfc

2010-08-18 Thread Rick Faircloth

Ok...I thought I had this worked out, but now I'm running into
path issues on my server.

What I'm trying to accomplish is this:

- I'm using an SVN service to post changes to my web server
- I commit a change to SVN, then SVN sends update to server
- On the SVN server, I have two FTP sites set up to handle commits
- One FTP site gets commits immediately...that's the development site,
  or folder on my server
- The second FTP site gets commits only manually...those go to the
  production site (or folder) when testing and client approval is finished

- To use this setup, I created three variables for application.activeWebroot
based
  on the cgi.server_name in use and used this like this:

This works fine for local development when using paths such as:

url = /#application.activeWebroot#/images/image.jpg

That translates to http://localhost/hillyPetersonHomes/images/image.jpg.

However, on the server, when domain names become involved, it doesn't work.
When, viewing a site in the development folder, using the domain
"hph.whitestonemedia.com", this path:

url = /#application.activeWebroot#/images/image.jpg

becomes:

url =
http://hph.whitestonemedia.com/hillyPetersonHomes-dev/images/image.jpg

which doesn't work.

It needs to be http://hph.whitestonemedia.com/images/image.jpg

Same problem with the production paths.

I'm probably way over-complicating this solution.

What's a good way to approach this problem?

Using one port on the IIS server for development and 80 for production?
And send hph.whitestonemedia.com to port "79" or whatever for development
sub-domains and www.hillypetersonhomes.com to port "80" for production?
And specify the ports in the FTP settings on the SVN server and on IIS
on the preview/production server?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any feedback!

Rick

Image manipulation code: unit testing approach

2010-08-18 Thread Dominic Watson

I'm writing a small utility to perform some image resizing with
options such as 'limitFileSize', 'maintainAspectRatio', etc. and I'd
like to write unit tests for this (something I'm new to). How would
any of you l33t unit testers go about this? i.e. How would you source
the images for the unit test? Have demo files local to the test
scripts? Create the test images using cfimage within the test script?
Any other ideas?

Do your links from the root and you'll be fine. Say your roots are:

siteRoot/content/folder2/index2.cfm
and
siteRoot/content/folder1/includes/index.cfm

You can use your JS like this:

document.forms[0].action = "/content/folder2/index2.cfm".
and
document.forms[0].action = "/content/folder1/includes/index.cfm".

Navigation Issue.

2010-08-18 Thread fun and learning

Hi All -

I have a directory structure as follows:

folder1
 - Includes
   - index.cfm

folder2
 - index2.cfm

I have some links on index.cfm which on clicking goes to index2.cfm in folder2.
I am using javascript, and the action attribute is:
 document.forms[0].action = "../folder2/index2.cfm".

The index2.cfm has a button which on clicking goes back to index.cfm. The
javascript action is:
document.forms[0].action = "../folder1/includes/index.cfm".

Until this it is working fine.

Once the user is back on index.cfm and clicks the link to go again to
index2.cfm, i get the error that folder1/folder2/index2.cfm does not exist.
What could be the cause of this?

RE: CFID integer?

2010-08-18 Thread Paul Alkema

Oh, oops. I just figured it out.

In the ColdFusion administrator, if the setting "Use UUID for cftoken" is
unchecked than the cftoken will be an integer.

Thanks,
Paul

Subject: CFID integer?

Hi All,
Does anyone have any idea why one server would give me a session.cftoken
that's an integer and the other would give me a session.cftoken that's a
alpha-numeric? It's seems to be very consistently this way.

EXAMPLE

SERVER A
Session.cftoken = 316809

Server B
Session.cftoken = 8a30c3300f9be8f6-858271FD-1D10-FABB-008190F5BC0804CA

I'm assuming that there is a setting in the ColdFusion administrator I'm
missing somewhere or something. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

Brilliant- that's got it, thanks.

Can't really believe I've never hit that error in the past 6 years...
:)

re: Passing a Date Time Value to a function

2010-08-18 Thread Jason Fisher

It's because you re-used the variable names startDate and endDate, so you
re-wrote the value of each variable to strip out the time and then asked
for the time. Always be sure to 'var' all variables in a function, and
you'll avoid the snafu. If you do the following, you'll even get a runtime
error letting you know the problem (cannot var a variable with the same
name as an argument):

var result = "";
var startDate = "";
var startTime = "";
var endDate = "";
var endTime = "";

startDate = dateFormat(arguments.startDate, "dd  ");
startTime = timeFormat(arguments.startDate, "HH:mm");
endDate = dateFormat(arguments.endDate, "dd  ");
endTime = timeFormat(arguments.endDate, "HH:mm");

Start: #startDate#, #startTime#
End: #endDate#, #endTime#

#dateFormatter2(now(), now())#

Use different var names, and it works fine:

var result = "";
var start = "";
var startTime = "";
var end = "";
var endTime = "";

start = dateFormat(arguments.startDate, "dd  ");
startTime = timeFormat(arguments.startDate, "HH:mm");
end = dateFormat(arguments.endDate, "dd  ");
endTime = timeFormat(arguments.endDate, "HH:mm");

Start: #start#, #startTime#
End: #end#, #endTime#

#dateFormatter2(now(), now())#

Subject: Passing a Date Time Value to a function

It's been one of those days already - can anyone tell me why the time gets
stripped out? I'm aware that I'm using 'date' as an argument type, but
datetime throws an error and there's nothing in CF8 docs on it... How do I
preserve the time data?

var result ="";
startDate=dateFormat(arguments.startdate, 'dd  ');
startTime=timeFormat(arguments.startdate, "HH:MM");
endDate=dateFormat(arguments.enddate, 'dd  ');
endTime=timeFormat(arguments.enddate, "HH:MM");

Start: #startDate#, #startTime# End: #endDate#,
#endTime#

#dateFormatter2(now(),now())#
