Re: ACF10 and Service Temporary Unavailable
Tomcat stuff appears to be in C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\runtime\lib but there are no config files in there. Anyone have an idea as to where to look (for the file to edit to give Tomcat more memory)? Russ, WRT JVM, I changed it to Minimum JVM Heap Size (in MB): 1024 and Maximum JVM Heap Size (in MB): 1024.
Tomcat is the J2EE application server used to run CF 10 by default. If you've given CF more memory, you've given Tomcat more memory. You don't have to poke around in a different area for that. That said, I doubt that this is a memory problem, unless you've also seen CF consume the entire heap when you've had this problem. Like Cameron said, this sounds like a connector problem. Have you installed the latest CF 10 update? When you install these updates, I think you need to uninstall and reinstall your connectors to get to the latest version of those. I believe that's described in the release notes. Re: ACF10 and Service Temporary Unavailable
ACF10 uses the isapi_redirect.dll for connecting Tomcat to IIS which is an open-source connector developed by the good folks in the Tomcat project. The error message is coming from the connector, so what you can do is enable logging on the connector and it should tell you what the problem is. You can enable logging (or set the logging level to a be more informative) by editing the connector properties file, usually located here: {CF-HOME}\config\wsconfig\{magic-number}\isapi_redirect.properties Specifically, look for the following entries: log_file = {CF-HOME}\config\wsconfig\{magic-number}\isapi_redirect.log log_level = info If the default log_level of info doesn't indicate anything in the logs, try setting the level higher. Appropriate values are documented here: http://tomcat.apache.org/connectors-doc/reference/iis.html ... but chances are good the problem is already being logged. If I had to guess, I would say you're bumping up against the default connection_pool_size which unfortunately defaults to 250 for IIS. I've seen this limit hit frequently on even low-use windows machines. The connection_pool_size attribute can be configured in the workers.properties file, located here by default: {CF-HOME}\config\wsconfig\{magic-number}\ The connection_pool_size attribute is documented here: http://tomcat.apache.org/connectors-doc/reference/workers.html And you can read about manually installing the connector for ACF10 here: http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/kb/coldfusion10-iis-manual-connector-configuration.html Hope this helps John! =) Warm Regards, Jordan Michaels On 04/22/2013 06:23 PM, John M Bliss wrote: Since upgrading from ACF8 to ACF10, every once in a while (about once every 2-3 days?), under normal load, all .cfm reqs produce: Service Temporary Unavailable! So, what's there is what they've defined as the standard. This includes five values for the name attribute, and any possible HTTP response header for the http-equiv attribute. There are many other metadata standards that are not covered by W3C, of course. Dublin Core is one of the more common ones. And you're free to make up whatever metadata tags you want to use. W3C has no limits on what you use for metadata - pages that include custom metadata will still validate just fine. Re: Standard w3c tags
I have been asked to add standard meta tags to the web pages. I was only aware of couple them like description and content-type, and wanted to make sure about remaining meta tags Well, it might be worthwhile to you to go back to your customer and ask what they want to accomplish with metadata. There are many potential consumers of metadata. What do they want people to be able to do with metadata? What do they want to keep track of? What are they currently keeping track of? I spend quite a bit of time dealing with this problem, because metadata is often used by search consumers. With large customers, we typically build a metadata taxonomy - the things they think their users want to be able to filter on in searches, for example. Here's an example of a site that takes advantage of this metadata: http://onepetro.org/ If you do a search here, for example, on oil shale, you'll see a bunch of menu options on the right side that allow you to refine your search by author, publisher, document type, etc. That's all driven by metadata. I suggest you take a look at Dublin Core as a starting point. If you do a Google search for Dublin Core you'll get a lot of stuff, so you might just start with the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin_Core If you're interested in Facebook integration, they have their own standard for metadata called Open Graph: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/property-types/ Dave Watts, CTO, Fig Leaf Software http://www.figleaf.com/ http://training.figleaf.com/ Fig Leaf Software is a Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) on GSA Schedule, and provides the highest caliber vendor-authorized instruction at our training centers, online, or onsite. ~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:355564 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/unsubscribe.cfm

Re: Standard w3c tags
My understanding is that meta, per the spec, can contain anything, which is what Dave was alluding to. Come to think of it, are there more meta tags doesn't really make since. There's only one tag. There's common attributes, but attribute values aren't standardized on, tags are. It's a bit like asking How many a tags are there? Just following up on this idea. I'm getting a third server, and was planning on having it do only SMPT email delivery for the websites, which, right now, all totalled probably come to more like 250,000 a month. I know this isn't a lot, but about 50,000 are released in a big spurt every Wednesday morning. What with all the spam blocking etc as several people mentioned, I'm thinking that keeping the bulk delivery on a separate IP from the real-people Outlook-originated emails would be a good idea. Yes, I do pay attention to the spam blocking via a couple different services who email me a daily report, and I'm on AOL's scomp feedback loop, but I think this will keep my email eggs in two baskets, and minimize the amount of minute-by-minute monitoring that would otherwise be required. So, this is what i'm thinking: S1: CF S2: SQL / SmarterMail (for individual client emails) S3: Bulk SMTP (generated by all the websites doing bulk emails) It keeps the bulk stuff sequestered, delivering it at very quick speeds, and lightens the load on the SQL server, which is currently handling the bulk mail. Rational? Or not? eclipse 422 with cfeclipse vs coldfusion builder express
I'm still weighing everything for a move to the 64 bit version of eclipse on a clients remote box. I can go with eclipse 4.2.2 running cfeclipse or eclipse 3.7.2 running cfbuilder express (the free version). From what I know, there is little difference between cfeclipse and cfbuilder express which means the only real difference would be in the version of eclipse I'd using. Any additional feedback from people 'in the know'?
