RE: Attempts at banking fraud

Hi Pete,
Where did you get the "coupon"?

Actually, the Microsoft Action Pack Subscription is legit.  For $299 you get
a whole boatload of software, along with 10 licenses (or 10 CAL's for server
products).  The catch is that it's only "licensed" for 12 months.  In all,
it's a good deal, sometimes made even better...I got mine for $99 after a
$200 "coupon".

It staggers me that there are people in the world who will attempt to rob
others by cleverly imitating a bank/credit unions email to attempt to gain
access to someones funds. They usually attempt this with cleverly crafted
"HTML" email messages. Microsoft has also fallen victim to this atttempt
at
validity by the look of a message alone.

I've received a few of these lately.

Keep in mind it is highly unlikely that your own bank would ever send you
something via email that would ever ask you for personal information (they
would more than likely have it already). In fact your bank would not even
really need to know your email address at all.

Whenever I receive these bogus messages, and I have received several, I
forward them to the Australia Federal Police in their entirety. You should
do the same to your respective law enforcers (eg: FBI).

PS. I'm not even sure if it was a valid email but Microsoft are offering
$25,000 worth of software for $299 through their "Partner" program. It
looks
legitimate - clever - but probably not the real deal.

I am working on a new DB design for a CFMX app and was doing a little
refresher research on keys and data types and ran across this quote from
former SQL Server project manager Ron Soukup,

"Identity primary keys are for people who believe there's never time to
design a table right but there's always time to do it over."

In another related article, another MS SQL guy says that the only reason
identity made it into SQL server was because of Access (not a direct
quote).

Anyone care to comment?

If you mean having JS in the browser read and set session variables
directly, you can't, because JS is client-side and CF session variables are
server-side.

The only thing you can do is pass variables back and forth via page loads
(or getting tricky with hidden frame/GIF pipes) and CFOUTPUTing the data
into your JS code, but it's not the same thing as JS dynamically reading and
setting session variables.

I've never had a client complain about this, ergo I've never thought about
it before ;-) But yeah, I've noticed it in passing, and thinking about it
now, the only thing that comes to mind is:

- onsubmit, copy the file field's value into a hidden field with JS
- Use this hidden field to re-populate the file field

Haven't tried it, but can't see why it wouldn't work.

Subject: Pre-populating a "file" form field

I have an application that starts with a form. When a user fills out the
form and clicks submit, the data is sent to the server and validated. If
the user has submitted something in error (a date, or a missing required
field), the form is re-displayed and populated with the users original
choices - along with a message telling them what to correct. It's the sort
of code I'm sure we have all written in our sleep.

One of the fields is a "file" field however. When I try to "pre-populate"
that field with the original user choice, it fails. I'm sure this is
because of the special nature of the file field, and I've told my client
that I do not believe it can be done. Does anyone know of a trick to
re-fill the file field with the users original choice?

-Mark

Subject: WOT: Web Based Collaboration System

This is way off topic, but I am running into a wall here. I am looking
for an off-the shelf web based project collaboration tool. Basically,
an online system where members of a project can go and share documents,
post calendar events, engage in discussions, track issues, etc.

I have searched every search engine I can think of and I cannot find
much of anything. Most of the tools available seem very limited and
focus on one function, not a whole suite of collaboration tools.

Does anybody want to sell their product or can anybody point me in the
direction of a good system. $$$ are less of a priority than feature set
and flexibility.

Thanks

I'm trying to do it all in one request. The tech goes to close the ticket,
clicks save changes, then that executes the action page. I set the variable
initially in the application file, but I'm incrementing it in the action

I have to admit, I'm still learning the best practices with respect to "how"

A bit more info would be helpful. Are you trying to do this all in one
request? what sort of variable is it? session? If it's a session variable
then it's being reset to Zero with every request by the application.cfm
page. You would need to do (with locking):

Hi all,

I know this has come up in the past, and I was wondering if anyone had
found anything to replace SQL Server's Enterprise Manager? I have a
client on crappy shared hosting, and their SQL Server machine has about
half a million databases on it (exaggeration). Enterprise Manager
hangs/timesout trying to get a list of everything on the server. I need
to add some tables and I would really like to avoid doing it the
hard/manual way.

Thanks,
Kay.

Upgrading from v4.5 pro to v5.0 pro

2001-09-25 Thread Boardwine, David L.

My office will soon be upgrading from 4.5 pro to 5.0 pro. Is there any
special things I should know before the upgrade? Are there any "gotcha"s to
look out for? Any input from others that have done that migration would be
helpful and appreciated.

Recursively calling CFCONTENT

2001-09-24 Thread Boardwine, David L.

I have a list of PDF documents I want the user to be able to download using
CFCONTENT. I've been unable to write the code to recursively call CFCONTENT
since no code after that tag is executed. Is there a way to do this ? Should
I be looking at some other method to accomplish this ? Any suggestions are
apprecciated.

TIA

I want to automatically check (and disable) one checkbox when another of
several checkboxes is checked. Can I do this with client-side scripting? Any

Can you use a broswer to ring the bell on a pc? (It's a control character,
though I forget which. ;p)

RE: Session Variables - I don't get it

2001-05-11 Thread Boardwine, David L.

The application.cfm runs before every page and resets your variable
session.dog. Just set the value of that session variable in your code
somewhere other than the application.cfm and it should work. I hope this
helps.
