And trust me I use all possible discounts codes that I am entitled to. I went back and mined some data out of all the announcements that are sent out about the conference. |2005 |2006 |2007 |Price Cutoff |Price Cutoff |Price Cutoff +---+---+- Early 4day|n/a|$649 |$849 3day|$449 25-Feb |$549 31-Jan |$749 31-Dec Sat |n/a|$249 |$199 +---+---+- Timely 4day|n/a|$749 |$949 3day|$549 30-Apr |$649 31-Mar |$849 31-Mar Sat |n/a|$299 |$249 +---+---+- Regular 4day|n/a|$849 |$1,049 3day|$649 10-Jun |$749 16-Jun |$949 20-Jun Sat |n/a|$349 |$299 +---+---+- Late4day|n/a|$949 | 3day|$749 28-Jun |$849 28-Jun | Sat |n/a|$399 | I can understand the price difference between '05 and '06 since they added a day and provided lunch for attendees. But it is still the same hotel and general time of year. It is nice to see that they did drop the price of the Saturday Only registration by $50 between '06 and '07. I really don't think someone would repeatedly run a money losing conference. It has also been stated that TeraTech made a profit (never said how large) on the conferences both previous years ('05 & '06). Just running the numbers of registrations that were published in all the emails sent out (don't have data for "Early" registration so just moved them all to "Timely" also made '06 registrations all 3day to compare between '05 & '06) CFUnited 2005 Timely 3/10/05 - 270 3/17/05 - 292 3/30/05 - 319 4/12/05 - 365 4/10/05 - 415 4/27/05 - 457 457 * $549 = $250,893 Regular 5/05/05 - 530 5/11/05 - 543 5/18/05 - 583 5/25/05 - 609 6/01/05 - 643 6/08/05 - 667 210 * $649 = $136,290 Late 6/15/05 - 750 6/28/05 - 855 188 * $749 = $140,812 CFUnited 2005 Total: $405,334 CFUnited 2006 Timely 3/15/06 - "Over 300" 3/22/06 - 320 3/26/06 - 390 390 * $649 = $253,110 Regular 4/05/06 - 470 4/12/06 - 490 4/20/06 - 492 4/27/06 - 504 5/03/06 - 530 5/10/06 - 561 5/17/06 - 588 5/24/06 - 620 6/01/06 - 655 6/07/06 - 706 6/14/06 - 772 382 * $749 = $286,118 Late 6/22/06 - 853 81 * $849 = $68,769 CFUnited 2006 Total: $607,997 So if the registration trend for '07 matches '06 they should hit about $750,000. This doesn't include sponsors. The basic question is, if the previous ones were profitable and nothing has changed, what is with the price increase? ~| Introducing the Fusion Authority Quarterly Update. 80 pages of hard-hitting, up-to-date ColdFusion information by your peers, delivered to your door four times a year. http://www.fusionauthority.com/quarterly Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/message.cfm/messageid:260782 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4
CFUnited 2007 Pricing
Does anyone else think $849 seems a bit steep? CFUnited 2006 was $649 for the early bird 4 day registration. I'd like to know what the extra $200 (30% increase) is for, given that it is in the same location (N. Bethesda Marriott) and time of year (end of June). Also the early bird period to register is now a month shorter, you have until December 31st for CFUnited 2007 vs January 31st for CFUnited 2006. That is a lot of money to commit nearly a half year in advance. Don't get me wrong, I have gone to CFUN/CFUnited since 2000 (missing only 2001) either as an attendee or speaker. I mark off my calendar for conference as soon as dates are announced. Prior to this year, I tended to register early and often without knowing the topics in advance. However, looking at the topics that have been submitted so far, there is nothing in there that justifies this price increase or makes me really want to pay the increase for attending. Just very doubtful that I'll go given the price increase, when there are other conferences such as cf.Objective() or even MAX and need to justify the dollars for what I'll get from them. Right now, I'd only consider the Saturday only for $199 which would be a 70% drop in revenue for them over last year from me (4 day reg in 2006 vs saturday day reg in 2007). Personally, I think they are pricing them out of what the original intent was, a conference for ColdFusion developers by ColdFusion developers and being very afordable. - David Epler ~| Introducing the Fusion Authority Quarterly Update. 80 pages of hard-hitting, up-to-date ColdFusion information by your peers, delivered to your door four times a year. http://www.fusionauthority.com/quarterly Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/message.cfm/messageid:260707 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4
Re: CFUnited - Where's Macromedia?
It is great that Macromedia is allowing several of its employees to speak at CFUnited and they have been doing that for several years now. That does add value to the conference, but is not the same as being a sponsor. With 3 months to go, one would have thought they would have been a sponsor well before this point and possibly at a higher level than their competitors. > Macromedia can never ignore their existing customer base - us - but to > some extent it's "preaching to the choir". The place to do the most > selling work is amongst the 'unbelievers' and the 'unsaved'. I don't expect Macromedia to have to resell ColdFusion to those already using it, but what about upgrading to CFMX 7? They do have other products to showcase (captivate, contribute, wps, flex). Conferences are one of the best places to get one-on-one demos and talk face-to-face. If a person is limited to one conference a year for their organization, it is a lost opportunity. Both Microsoft and New Atlanta wouldn't be there if they didn't see an opportunity. An opportunity that becomes larger if Macromedia does not show up as a sponsor. ~| Logware (www.logware.us): a new and convenient web-based time tracking application. Re: CFUnited - Where's Macromedia?
Ben, That is good to know. Hopefully Macromedia and CFUnited can work through the details. But I still do contend that not seeing a Macromedia logo on sponsorship is quite troubling and it is not like CFUnited is an "unknown" event. When it comes to sponsoring a ColdFusion conference, I think Macromedia first, not Microsoft. >As of a few days ago we CFUnited and Macromedia were still working through >the details of their relationship for the event this year. CFUnited - Where's Macromedia?
Anyone else find it curious that Macromedia is not listed as a sponsor for CFUnited? I mean TeraTech has lined up both Microsoft and New Atlanta as gold sponsors. Why wouldn't Macromedia want to be at "the premier CF specific event", as stated by Ben Forta about the conference. They should be first in line to sponsor. It does say alot about a product when the users can organize such a large conference. But it says even more when the company that makes the product doesn't even bother to show up as a sponsor. ~| Logware (www.logware.us): a new and convenient web-based time tracking application.
