SOT: Looking for opinions on menu functionality

2007-06-05 Thread Jason Rogoz
Hello

We have just rolled out a site that incorporates a flash menu. The menu was
designed to have to be clicked in order to see the submenu items, instead of
the traditional rollover to view the items. I have voiced my concern with this
method of clicking the parent menu item in order to see the submenu items
instead of the rollover functionality as now we have a 3-click navigation
instead of a 2 click navigation to get to pages within folders. The url for
the site is www.jetstreammedia.com then click on the jetstreammedia puzzle
piece, lemme know what you guys think

Nice and slow bouncy.

BTW, if you click the green area around the text/logo you're sent to
http://www.xtend.tv/index.html which is missing.

Daylight savings issue with now()

2007-03-14 Thread Jason Rogoz
Hello

I have a couple applications that rely on the now() function and because of the
daylight savings time the function is not displaying the correct time. The
server in question is running CF 6.1 on a windows server 2003 box. Is this an
issue with the cf server or the windows box

Thanks

RE: Daylight savings issue with now()

2007-03-14 Thread Jason Rogoz
Hey Chris

Did you have to reboot the server or IIS? I installed the new version but it
didn't seem to fix the issue. Instead we just changed the time zone of the
machine.

I had the same problem yesterday. I installed version 1.4.2_11 of the
JVM and it fixed the problem.

download it here
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download-netbeans-50.html. This comes
with netbeans but you can uninstall that after. You could also install
1.4.2_13, but I hear that Adobe won't support that version.

Cheers mate!

Server help - coldfusion services stop responding

2007-02-23 Thread Jason Rogoz
Hey guys

A client has asked me for some advise on a coldfusion server issue they are
having. They are reporting that the coldfusion services just stop responding
when their site gets busy (i'm not sure at this point the number of hits when
they consider the site busy), but stopping and starting the coldfusion services
seems to fix the issue. They just don't want to have to stop and start the
services all the time.

I have the following information regarding the site configuration:

2 Redhat Linux (Ent 3 on HP/Intel)
2 Sun Solaris 9 (Sparc)
1 MS-SQL Server (Win2003 HP/Intel)
Coldfusion 7.0091690

The situation is that the client had a CMS developed by another company using
CF. The site is hosted at the host company but they apparently do not have
anyone that knows how to manage the CF box. The hosting company has contacted
me for advice on why the services just stop responding, so i'm basically stuck
in the middle of all this. My background is with windows and not linux.

Any tips would be helpful or if anyone has any experience with this sort of
setup in the Calgary area let me know.

Jason

RE: valid email address?

2007-01-19 Thread Jason Rogoz
Its actually not a udf or regex that is breaking, there is an application error
saying that the email address has been rejected. The site is actually a .net
app but i thought i'd first post here regarding the validity of the email
address before posting in a .net forum.

RE: valid email address?

2007-01-19 Thread Jason Rogoz
The application is breaking during the looping of the email addresses and
sending an email to each one. I can see the error in the application log of
the server as well. Is there anyway to test the email addresses in question to
see if they are in fact valid or being rejected?

How is the application breaking? Are you sure an email server somewhere is
not rejecting the address?

OT: harvesting email addresses

2006-12-21 Thread Jason Rogoz
Hi all

I just wanted to follow up with my previous post regarding hiding email
addresses on form. Can email addresses be harvested off .cfm and .php pages,
or are the addresses invisible to the bots on server side scripts. My client
says they are receiving a lot of spam but i'm not sure that encoding the email
address on the .cfm or .php will solve anything or if spam is just part of the
internet now.

Thanks

Is the email address located as hidden field in the form itself? Or are you
placing the email into the processing portion of the page? Putting the email
as a hidden field is a HGUE no-no as spam-bots read that in a heartbeat.

cfif NOT structKeyExists(variables, fb_relativeFilePath)
cfinclude template=udf_relativefilepath.cfm /

if i commented out the if condition the file is included.

right now i'm working through a issue with the parsing of model\circuit.xml.

The xml is never read by IIS, because it gets parsed into .cfm files.

can you post the circuit.xml file in question?

 cfif NOT structKeyExists(variables, fb_relativeFilePath)
 cfinclude template=udf_relativefilepath.cfm /

if i commented out the if condition the file is included.

the file is structured correctly as i can open it up in IE without any

I'm not sure if we are running fb4.1 on w2003 but we probably are on some
project. My guess would be a missing core file.

 is this FB4 or FB4.1?

are you sure you have all the core files?

have you got the file 'udf_canonicalpath.cfm' ?

timeout request settings

2006-06-08 Thread Jason Rogoz
I was curious as to what others have their timeout set to in the cf
administrator. We have an app that uploads files to the server, sometimes
30+MB and currently set to 60 seconds which sometimes times out. In this case
i manually increase the timeout and re-upload the file. I'm hesitant to
increase the timeout too much to prevent too many long processes.

CF/.Net with SQL server hosting

Hello

This subject has probably already been beaten to death but i thought i'd check

We would need the following requirements, coldfusion, .Net and sql server. We
would also require the ability to register our own CFX tags. Does anyone have
any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks

RE: convert windows media file to flash video on the fly

2006-01-23 Thread Jason Rogoz
what we have now is a solution where the client uploads windows media files
that are played through their site via windows media player. We are having
compatibilty issues with some mac and firefox users so the switch to flash
video looks like a good alternative. Moving to flash video would most likely
force us to convert all existing files and introduce a step for the client
where they would have to convert the windows media file to an flv before they
upload it. The solutions mentioned below may be enough to not make things too
confusing for the client to convert to flv before uploading. Unless there is a
way to have the flash player play windows media files.

From what I gather, FFmpeg is a command line utility though I've never used
it, I have used Riva... which uses FFmpeg to do its conversions. As for CF,
no. you'd probably have to write your own if that's the way you wanted to go
with it. But encoding video files can be pretty strenuous on a machine and
take quite a while.

You'd probably be better off keeping a directory of the video files and use
schedules to fire off a nightly task to convert video files from a specific
directory or something.

Bobby-

Is this accessible via command line or something? I can't find any info
on that or any way that it could be called from CF.

Riva just updated their free FLV Video encoder to version 1.2. The
encoder is based on the FFMPEG video conversion command line tool (GNU
LGPL).

well your MIME types for jpegs are: image/jpeg,image/pjpeg,image/jpg

So I am assuming image/pjpeg is a progressive jpeg so don't allow it.

CFForm Issue with CFGrid

2005-04-08 Thread Jason Rogoz
I have a flash form on my page that has three accordion tabs. Each tab has a
cfgrid within it. Each row in the grid has a check box the user can select and
then click a submit button within each tab to submit the form. I'm
encountering a weird occurance where if i check checkboxes in tab 1 then check
some in tab 3 and submit the form from tab 3. When i dump the form on my
action page the values from tab 1 appear in their array but they also appear in
the array for tab 3 which doesn't make sense. To top it all off when i first
select tab 3 items, then tab 1 items and submit the form from tab 3 everything
works properly. i've tried to uncheck the checkboxes in the onsubmit function
with actionscript without success. Is this a cfform/cfgrid bug or is there a
work around?

I have a situation that could be implemented in two different ways and looking
to see which situation would be best:
I have 3 result sets that i need to obtain...i could query the database 3 times
to obtain each one or query the database once and then filter the result in cf
using cfquery...in the long run is the cfquery slower at filtering than
querying the db 3 times? lets say we would be dealing with 300-500 records in
total.

CFForm - Accordian

2005-04-06 Thread Jason Rogoz
How do i determine which accordion tab is currently being viewed through
actionscript?

I have the following code to obtain which tab is selected without success:
frmViewInventory.selectedIndex;

but i can use the following if stmt to determine which is selected (notice
there is only one = though which is bizarre to be:
if(frmViewInventory.selectedIndex=1){
  alert(one it is);
}

Re: cfgridcolumn validation

2005-03-30 Thread Jason Rogoz
Do you have the code that would reference the checkbox cfgridcolumns to see if
they are checked or not...i can't seem to find the Actionscript syntax that
would be used to reference the properties of the checkboxesi have a
cfgridcolumn of type boolean to display the checkbox, can i still use
actionscript to reference whether it is checked or not?
You can write custom actionscript in the onSubmit attribute of cfform.
With this you can write AS that will check the loop over the rows and
check the grid, if none are checked it should return false if you don't
want the form to be submitted.

Subject: cfgridcolumn validation

Is it possible to validate the values in a cfgridcolumn tag...i have a
grid displayed with a checkbox next to each item in the grid. I want to
ensure that at least one checkbox is checked when the user clicks a
button before moving onto my action page.

Thanks

Upload files in Blackstone

2005-03-29 Thread Jason Rogoz
Has anyone found a way to upload files using a flash form? I need to be able
to enter some user details and allow them to upload an image all at once. I
don't really want to use a 2 step process if at all possible.

Thanks

Caching issue

2004-04-22 Thread Jason Rogoz
Hey Guys/Gals

I'm trying to work through what seems to be a caching issue on a production server. If i request a file, then rename the file and try to request its original name the file is not found-good.When i rename the file back to its original name, the file is still not found-bad.I've also requested another file, then removed it completely and the file is still rendered by the browser-bad.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what settings should be checked both in CFMX and in IIS?

Thanks
