Re: CFMX and non-HTML Paginated Report Generation

2004-06-03 Thread Paige Chandler
Hi Guy,

We got back late Tuesday night. All went pretty well. Got about 1256 email messages. Just finished downloading.Haven't had time to read any but thanks for all the appropriate email.I expect to be working on the web reporting issue this month, maybe even in the next week or so.

You know that I did buy that book on Crystal Reports.

Good to be back.

Does Crystal Reports play nice with Cold Fusion these days??

If so, exactly what components/versions of Crystal are required to be able to generate reports in PDF file format?

Also, what report generation products do you use and like -- instead of Crystal Reports -- to generate paginated reports via CFMX ??

Thanks for any and all advice...

Well, at first I would have said somebody accidentally sending to the

But (and pardon me if I'm wrong here), but isn't Arden Weiss the name
that's been attached to a few of the virus e-mails sent to HOF?The
ones that seem to be 'on topic' (ie they start off with a sentence that
would have you believe it's a 'legit' e-mail...something along the lines
of 'SQL Server 2000 updating query (blah blah)')?

What are you doing up still?

It looks like I just finished a major project a few minutes
ago: printing multi-page, multi-paragraph instant letters.

I hope to wrapup the Survey project tomorrow.

I believe I'm going to bed now.

You might be interested to know that, after 2 appointments
with the gen. practitioner I went to the cardiologist last
week (3/15) and he, of course, scheduled a stress test for
last Monday 3/22.I passed the test, of course, BUT after
the test and after the photo session, while waiting for them
to remove the needles, etc. I had trouble taking a deep
breath - again.Just like at your party. So they checked
all the test results before they would release me.Nothing
showed up on the test. So I had another appointment with him
today. They don't know what it is but it concerns them - more
than me. Anyway he gave me a prescription for Nexum
(something for stomach acid) and if it happens again it will
be serious. He wants to do a cauterization -not good. Means a
day in the hospital.I'll see him again in about a month.
So counting the next one, starting with that little event at
your party has resulted in no less then 6 doctor's
appointments, including the stress test. And it may not be
over yet.Anyway I'm feeling fine, no pain so I was back on
the trail doing 2 miles yesterday. The doc said he knew it
wouldn't do any good to ask me to curtail my walking so he
 wouldn't bother.Keep hiking.

 Have a great weekend.

Hi Jerry,

The latter. I believe I can develop the VBA code to automatically import the

But I have no objections to having the user see the data before they

A hyperlink is a hyperlink, whether you put it on text or
 image - it's basic HTML...

 Displaying a PDF only requires 2 things;
 1) the user has Acrobat Reader on their computer
 2) you link to the exact path of the PDF

  onClick=window.location='http:\CVS3WP14.CFM'

This location is incorrect - for 2 reasons
 1) the web uses forward slashes (/) not back slashes (\)
 2) You're referring to CVSWP14.CFM as though it's a site, not a page

  a href=Page 1

This link is also incorrect - you're going to link to a
folder, not a page, and it contains a space, which will break Netscape

  face=Arialstrong/Images/#Trim(Session
  Client_ID)##Trim(Session.Insured_ID)#1.pdf/strong/font/a
It displays the code not the image. What am I doing wrong? TIA.

It is displaying correctly for what you're asking it to...

Sorry to be blunt (and possibly rude) about this, but I
suggest you increase your HTML knowledge before you start
trying to incorporate ColdFusion into your work...

Regarding ExpandPath

2003-06-11 Thread Paige Chandler
Hello All,

Many thanks. I finally got it working.

Matthew Walker's suggestion to debug was a great help:

!cfoutput#ExpandPath(Images\#Trim(Session.Client_ID)##Trim(Session.Insure
d_ID)#1.jpg)#/cfoutput!

I finally determined that I had to put the Images subdirectory under my main
subCVS. I had it as a sub outside of CVS
and ExpandPath insisted on expanding .../CVS/Images/.
instead of .../Images/

In a 3-dimensional array the first and second dimensions are arrays of
pointers, not values. You'll need a loop to sort them.

Check this example - this will sort each array independently:

 cfset ta = arrayNew(3)
 cfset ta[1][1][1] = a
 cfset ta[1][1][2] = b
 cfset ta[1][1][3] = c
 cfset ta[1][2][1] = f
 cfset ta[1][2][2] = h
 cfset ta[1][2][3] = e
 cfset ta[2][1][1] = q
 cfset ta[2][1][2] = j
 cfset ta[2][1][3] = k

 cfoutput
 cfloop from=1 to=#arrayLen(ta)# index=i
 cfloop from=1 to=#arrayLen(ta[i])# index=j
 cfset temp = arraySort(ta[i][j],text)
!--- output the results for verification ---
 cfloop from=1 to=#arrayLen(ta[i][j])# index=k
 #ta[i][j][k]#br
 /cfloopbr
 /cfloop
 /cfloop
 /cfoutput

Sorry if I ruffle anyone's feathers here not a CF topic, but

I watched the 9 0'clock news last night on BBC 1 and watched an
 interview
with the President of the United States,
 George Bush.

This morning we have all been discussing the future career of this
 man and
we all agree it will probably be short lived
if America does realise what they have sitting in the presidential
 armchair.

A man during his Judicial Congress career in Texas, managed to break
 all
records and have more Death Row
prisoners put to death by 4 times during his residency.

Now as the President of the United States,
Bush has made it quite clear he is not interested in the quick turn
 around
to Global warming as is the rest of the World,
he has declined to get involved with Northern Ireland after so much
 hard
 work with the Clinton Administration,
his involvement and stance with the middle east peace process has
not
 been
 made clear,

and the most worrying is that he has decided to set the world back
15
 years
 by re-establishing a Nuclear presence.

To quote the President, I have said before to the rest of the world
 there
is no more cold war, but America must protect
 itself from a rogue dictator

What kind of signals is this sending out to the rest of the world,
especially China? Its not so long ago only in the job by a
few weeks he started to play hard ball against China, when their
reconnaissance aircraft was forced to land after infringing
Chinese airspace, their plane never recovered and America forced to
 apologize.

Two years ago India and Afghanistan proceeded to test nuclear
 missiles and
America opposed with the rest of Europe intensely,
a global united stance, a sense of security and lack of desire for
 Military
confrontations, Bush has decided to scrap this idea
 and restock on nuclear arms.

Where is the political responsibility and consistency of America
 going, to
be seen to be undoing all the hard work of a
previous administration that sent America to it pest political and
economical climate for decades, if even hasten to say ever can
only be seen as a dictatorship in its own right.

George Bush is not smart enough to be president, he lacks in
 humility, he is
not political sound and what's worrying is if he
continues to create a global stir someone could effectively try to
 kill the
 president.

A bit off topic, but very interesting...

Cringely's column in this week's InfoWorld indicated that tests done by an
independent lab for Network World showed that SQL Server 7 runs almost
twice as fast on Windows NT4 as it does on Win 2000.

 Very interesting if true.

Can any of you confirm similar differences in this regard -- or have
 different results ??

Is there a way to loop over form data or to dynamically rename form

Good think you never tried either, Russel. It would have ended in tears
before bedtime. The project function doesnt work well and so far as I
know Allaire have done nothing about it. No matter how many times I
tell
them about it they pretend they didnt know.

Here's the limitation: Project worked brilliantly in Studio4.0.1 and I
came to love it. Imagine my dismay when in 4.5.0 it only worked IF you
uploaded the entire project every time, and if any folders weren't
already
created on the host, it crashed and trashed some of your files on the
  host as punishment.

As far as I can tell, 4.5.0a and 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 have all come out and
there's been no fix for it.

Perhaps Macromedia might put a dose of borax on the Studio development
team and get them to fix it. Studio's the most expensive application I
have on my PC and it's by far the most flaky and unreliable.

Re: Selecting on dates

2001-01-21 Thread Paige Chandler

Hi Jim,

Thanks for all your help. I'm sure that I need to convert the memory
variable to the same format as the field variable StartVisit (which is in
DateTime). In the CFOutPut code below I can see that the 2 fields are in a
compatible format. But when I try use the comparison in the Where clause I
get an error on STARTDATE. As is I don't get an error on the query but of
course I don't get a valid comparison.

Problem line: WHERE #StartDate2# #CreateODBCDate(StartVisit)#

Following works, that is no errors:

CFIF IsDefined("StartDate")

CFSET StartDate2 = #CreateODBCDate(StartDate)#

  CFQUERY NAME="SiteData" DataSource="#Session.WebSite#"
   Select *
   FROM WebSite
   WHERE #StartDate2# StartVisit
 /CFQUERY

CFOUTPUT Query="SiteData"
-- Displays compatible dates--
#StartDate2#
#CreateODBCDate(StartVisit)#
/cfoutput

/CFIF

There are three CreateODBC functions, CreateODBCDate(),
CreateODBCDateTime(),
and CreateODBCTime(). Which one you use depends a little bit on the type
of
field (date, time, or date/time) and also what kind of comparison you need
to
do. By using CreateODBCDate(), you create an ODBC object that will
usually be
treated as "midnight at the beginning of" the date created.

For example, say StartVisit contains the date "May 8, 2000". If your
database
date/time column contains time values, the following would retrieve all
records
with StartDate on or after midnight at the start of May 8, 2000.

 SELECT *
 FROM WebSite
 WHERE StartDate #CreateODBCDate(StartVisit)#

To be on the safe side, use =. I know Access allows you to store just
date
values in date/time fields. So, if you stored values without a time
portion,
you'd have to use the = to catch items ON May 8, 2000.

 SELECT *
 FROM WebSite
 WHERE StartDate = #CreateODBCDate(StartVisit)#

Re: Cannot define a frameset in .CFM file?

2001-01-17 Thread Paige Chandler

Hi Kevin,

I've had a similar problem. I resolved it by removing the Body/Body
tages from my Application.cfm file.

I *DO* have Body tages in my .cfm file with the Frameset tags. Works
fine in IE NS. My sample file follows:

!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"

cfsetting enablecfoutputonly="NO" showdebugoutput="NO"

html
head
 titleUntitled/title

 STYLE TYPE="text/css"
  A:link{Color:Purple;Font_Style:Bold;}
  A:active{Color:Red;Font_Size:Larger;}
  A:visited{Color:Green;Font_Size:80%;Font weight:Normal;}
 /STYLE
/head

frameset rows="15%,*"
 frame name="Top" src="Top.htm" scrolling="no" noresize
 frameset cols="160,*"
  frame name="Menu" src="Menu.htm" scrolling="no" noresize
  frame name="Main" src="Dummy.htm"
 /frameset
 noframes
   body
pThis site uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them./p

Subject: Cannot define a frameset in .CFM file?

 Hi,

I'm trying to define some frames in a .cfm file and can't seem to get the
frames to appear and end up with a blank page.
It works fine if I simply rename the .cfm file to .htm file. What do I
need
 to do?

The simple page I'm testing with looks like this:

 !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"

 html
 head
 titleUntitled/title
 /head
 !-- frames --
 frameset rows="22%,*"
 frame name=""
 src="../../../Inetpub/wwwroot/dashboard_wip/mainheader.htm"
marginwidth="10"
 marginheight="10" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1"
 frame name=""
 src="../../../Inetpub/wwwroot/dashboard_wip/frame3/shellmid.htm"
 marginwidth="10" marginheight="10" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1"
 /frameset

 body

 /body
 /html

What's strange is that when I do view the source of the blank page I get:

 !DOCTYPE html public "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"
 HTML
 HEAD

 META http-equiv="expires" content="Thu, 1 October 1998 00:00:00 PST"
 TITLEProject Tracking Application Global file/TITLE
 /HEAD
 BODY

 /BODY
 /HTML
 !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"

 html
 head
 titleUntitled/title
 /head
 !-- frames --
 frameset rows="22%,*"
 frame name=""
 src="../../../Inetpub/wwwroot/dashboard_wip/mainheader.htm"
marginwidth="10"
 marginheight="10" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1"
 frame name=""
 src="../../../Inetpub/wwwroot/dashboard_wip/frame3/shellmid.htm"
 marginwidth="10" marginheight="10" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1"
 /frameset

 body

 /body
 /html

Frames in NS solved - Thanks

2001-01-08 Thread Paige Chandler

Hello All,

Thanks to all who responed. FYI Duane and Christoph hit it - I mispelled /FRAMSET
Give me an 'E' - please.

I would never have believed it. Oh! I'd believe I could mispell it, I just wouldn't
have believed that IE didn't care and NS wouldn't even acknowledege or give me an
error. I hate NS. Yeh! I know it's my own fault.
I guess spelling it correctly 50% of the time is not enough.

I did have Body//Body in my original, and following the suggestions, reinserted it
in this test. It works well with or without it. BIG help. Thanks again.

Regards,

Paige

Problem w/Frames Netscape

2001-01-07 Thread Paige Chandler

Hello All and Happy New Year,

I have been working with a some new Frames architecture which displays fine in IE 5.5.
I can't get NS 4.7 to display anything. I've even creatred a test page with the very
basics below. IE displays "Can't find the page etc." When I insert the appropriate
pages sources it displays them OK. But NS still displays nothing. Can you see what I'm
doing wrong. TIA.

Hello Jann,

It appears that you've answered a question I didn't even know how to ask

"UserId" is the loggon Id field which I would like to receive focus upon the
page loading. TIA.

I have found many cases when this doesn't work. I've often gotten errors
that look like the "onLoad" handler was run before the page finished
loading. (error says form or field not found). I do NOT trust the "onLoad"
handler. In cases like this, I've put the focus statement at the end of
the
 document.

  Hello All,

I have a slight problem on my hands. I am trying to make the
  cursor default
to the beginning of my input fields. For example if a user opens up a
cf_form page, I want them to be able to begin inputting their
  data without
having to use their mouse to move their cursor into position.

  Any ideas out there?

Re: Passing Results of DorpDown List Box

2000-07-28 Thread Paige Chandler

Hello Dick,

Thank you very much. That works great.

I have 5 dropdowns on a single page. I'm trying to determine now which one
an item was selected from. CFIF ISDefined ("Area_Name") does not work
because it contains the default - first item in the table. As do the names
of each of the dropdowns.

Is the best way to determine which was accessed is to have a "Default" value
as the first Item in the table (dynamic) that feeds the dropdown?
Like "NONE" or blank or something?

 Your SELECT is named "Area_Name"...

 its value is in #Area_Name#

Hi Seth,

Problem solved. The page that I uploaded still refered to the .gif on my
hard drive.

I have the account set up with my new host but my DNS (paigechandler.com)
may not be ready yet.

I'm currently using data supplied by the client which is somewhat
confidential: names of doctor's at a Dallas hospital. When I replace that
with test data I'll publish the url. Thanks very much for the offer to check
it out seth. Have a nice day.

If you're viewing the site from a browser that is running directly on the
server, check to make sure your images don't use absolute paths (i.e.
 D:\inetpub\yoursite\image.gif).

Perhaps you can post a URL so that we may take a look at the site?

Re: NEWBIE REQUESTS HELP

2000-07-23 Thread Paige Chandler

Hi Mike,

Your post does not indicate that it is desirable or necessary to create a
separate page for each store. Just because they have different ID numbers
does not necessitate that they have different pages. One of my apps has many
(10+) clients in about 40k records. If one or more of the clients want
something special/extra I can (for a price) provide it. Otherwise they all
see the same data pages/formats, but of course only their data. I just use
the ID to Select(filter) the records they see. I capture the ID in a session
variable (or you can use a CFCookie)on the first page and use that in any
CFQueries on that or other pages. For instance if they want to search their
data by city, I search by the their ID + the city they input. If they want
to search by last name I search by their ID + the Last name the input, etc.
Good luck.

Regards,

Paige

I believe that because I occasionally get prompted to "permit cookies" that

Where does CF store the cookies that are set from a CFHTTP request?

No, I don't mean the cookies that CF sets. I mean when CF uses CFHTTP to
get a page, where does it store the cookies that are received?

They are stored somewhere, because you can stop and start the service and
 they're still there!

 it's not in the registry!
it's not in any file on the entire machine!
 it's not in the documentation!
there's no answer in the user groups!

 is this a mystery?

 where is that little cookie?

Anyone else have trouble with the forums? The last few days it keeps
reseting the connection before it can get more than a few threads down the
 list.

Re: Why does blank dates default to 1899-12-30?

2000-07-07 Thread Paige Chandler

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the suggestion. This is very bad news. My app displays the status
of a list of insurance policies for a particular piece of property: Date
Issued, Date Canceled, Date Expired. Most of the time the last two are
blank. And there may be from 1 to 9 policies listed for a property: General
Liability, Auto, Umbrella, etc. I don't believe that I can insert CFIF tags
within CFTable or CFGrid. The only workaround for me (other than to use ASP)
is to convert all date fields to text fields. This is possible now because I
prepare a special data file for web access. If I were allowing the clients
to hit the live database, which is in future plans, I may not be able to use
CF.

I'm don't believe I can use TABLE because there is no functions available
to format date and dollar amounts. Other than that, this app was done and
ready to go live Monday. What a kick in rear. Thanks again. Have a nice day.
See you Tuesday eve.

Regards,

Paige

I had the same problem with FoxPro 2.0 data. The workaround I came up with
was to not display dates older than 1901:

 cfif year(followup) gt
1901#DateFormat(followup,'dd-mm-')#/cfif
I was displaying the date field directly, not using CFGrid, so your milage
may vary...

Hi Michael, Ken, Jim, Jennifer, et al,

Thank you ALL very very very. much for all your help. I'll not make =
this brief in hopes that my efforts will help others not to make the =
same mistakes.

I first tried CFTable but because of the lack of functions for =
date/number and font size control I tried CFGrid. The default font for =
CFGrid is quite adequate. Smaller than "normal" font both horizontally =
and vertically. But I couldn't get NumberFormat to work with CFGrid and =
I can't use Michael's suggestion for checking for date GT 1901 because I =
can't insert a CFIF tag in CFTable or CFGrid.=20

I reconfigured my datasource by converting the date fields to text and =
the number fields to text with commas. This was easy using the VFP CTOD =
and the Translate functions in the SELECT. Only the numbers worked with =
CFTable, neither worked with CFGrid. CFGrid displayed the text date =
fields as 1899-12-30 and the numbers without commas even though they are =
part of the data.

You can imagine my frustration at this point. Although this is my first =
major CF app, I've been attending the CFUG-MD for years, since it =
started. I believed that it was the best. I have both Forta's books plus =
one by Sybex. I convinced my personal clients to go with CF. I've also =
attended the FoxPro sigs here for years. I've convinced my friends there =
to consider CF instead of Web Conection or FoxWeb. THEY ARE GOING TO =
HANG ME.=20

Where did I wind up? With you help and encouragement I'm using TABLE =
successfully. Using the attributes Align, Font Size, Width, etc. and =
DateFormat and NumberFormat. Using the original datasource (unconverted) =
and Michaels suggestion for checking for GT 1901 and otherwise =
displaying a variable of ' / / '.

The table fits the page horizontally but I may want to change to a font =
style that is smaller in height so I can fit more rows comfortably. That =
was one of the advantages of CFGrid. I tried TR Height=3D??. 100 works =
but 2 doesn't. That is I can increase the row height but not reduce it.

So I'm back to where I started out weeks ago; trying to displaying the =
policy data in a table. Successfully now - thanks to you all, albiet =
Table instead of CFTable. And I expect to deliver the app Monday. Thanks =
again for your concern and suggestions. Have a nice weekend. I'm going =
to get a tall drink.

Regards,

Paige

Only variables can be within #s. If you want a function to be evaluated

Re: Table Font Size

2000-07-01 Thread Paige Chandler

Hi Paul,

Thanks. That works fine. None of my 4 books on HTML show "Font" or "Font
Size" as an attribute anywhere in Table or TR or TD.

Is there a way of specifying FONT SIZE in CFTable also? That would be great.
I can't find it in the CF manuals, Ben Forta's books or one by Sybex? The
advantage of CFTable is that I can use the WIDTH attribute to reduce the
length of a very long field; not available in TABLE - as far as I know. But
still the default font size of CFTable is just a little too large. I'm now
using CFGrid instead because it defaults to a smaller font. But that seems
like overkill. TIA.

Regards,

Paige

You have to set FONT WITHIN each TD/TD
 a la:

 TDFont Size=3D5#Ins_Id#/TD

Since you have to set FONT in each TD, /FONT
 is not needed.

 Sorry.. ;-)

View it from another ip address that isn't in the debug list. Or, at the
top of your page:
 cfsetting enablecfoutputonly="No" showdebugoutput="Yes"
Of course, you could always go into CF Administrator and disable debugging
altogether.

Does the DateFormat function work on a data variable? the books only =

Hi Alex,

Thanks. That worked - but the Issued_Dat is a VFP date field and now my

Hi Brett,

You think very well. It works fine now. Thank you very much. By the way VFP
is short for Visual FoxPro as VB is short for Visual Basic..
Have a nice day.

I don't know what 'VFP' means but did you take of the quotes as well? If
you didn't the dateFormat function thinks it is a string (I think).

Re: foxpro deletes

2000-06-19 Thread Paige Chandler

Hello John,

Keep in mind that although Howie's advice may suffice because the deleted
records will not appear, they will still be present in the data table. The
FoxPro "Pack" command performs the following which of course can be
replicated: Copy to FileName for Not Deleted(), Rename OldFile, Rename
Newfile. Of course you would be advised to verify that the copy was
successful.

Paige

I would appreciate help in deleting records from a Foxpro table. When you
issue the 'delete' command via CF/odbc, this merely marks the record for
deletion. to actually delete the record, Foxpro requires the 'PACK'
command.
If this is not done, CF will continue to display those records marked for
deletion. How do I permanently remove records from the table via CF/odbc?
 Thanks in advance

Re: how to start new cf-talk topics

2000-04-26 Thread Paige Chandler

Hello Jennifer,

Thank you very much. I have been trying to get that advice for several
days. I'm fairly new at using CF, although I've been attending the CFUG sig
in Gaithersburg/Rockville, MD. for several years. I was actually Treasure of
the group for the first years of it's existance. I got the e-mail address
from that group at the last meeting. I have been a Visual FoxPro developer
for many years but just starting to get serious about CF. I have to have an
interactive web site up and running by mid May. You may see some postings
from me. Thanks again. Have a nice day.

Several people have asked about this recently, so those of you who already
know this stuff can just ignore me.

It's really easy to start a new thread on cf-talk. Start an email message
addressed to the cf-talk address (the same one that you get the mail from)
and make sure that the email address listed as the sender is an address
that receives email from cf-talk. (I have two email addresses in my email
client and sometimes I forget.) Enclosed are some general guidelines for
 the message.

Subject line: Be as descriptive as possible in the few words that can fit
in the subject line. Subject lines like"help!!!" and "Oh my, am I ever
lost" will sometimes be skipped over by people who could actually help
you.
Not everyone has the time to read the message and find out what your
question is. If your question isn't really about ColdFusion development,
people really appreciate it if you put OT: (for off-topic) in the subject
line. This way, they don't have to read and find out what your question
has
to do with ColdFusion, only to find out that it doesn't. This can irritate
people and irritated people are less likely to help you in the future.
Basically, remember that most of us are busy people who contribute to this
list when we have the time available. Anything you can do to make our
contribution take less time will let us help more people.

Body: Please be nice. We've had some problems with this recently. If you
ask nicely and someone can help you, they will. If you don't ask nicely
and
someone can help you, they may choose to not help you. The more
descriptive
of the problem that you can be, the faster that your problem can get
resolved. Please be very specific about the problem: include the version
of
ColdFusion, the server platform, the database program, and any other
specific configuration information that may have bearing on the problem.
If
you can't figure out why something is broken, example code helps a lot.
Not
only is it easier to see some types of problems, but people may find
errors
in your code that are masked by the problem that you've noticed.

General: Sometimes no one that can help is around, so don't get
discouraged
if no one responds. Just wait a few days and ask again. If you have to ask
again, saying so in the subject line can get you a quick response. This
can
be done politely by adding (repost) to the end of the subject line.

Re: Best way to learn CF?

2000-04-25 Thread Paige Chandler

Hello Dave Wilson,

I am just beginning to use CF and have been watching this web site for a
while. I see your name here often. Could I impose on you to explain how I
might enter a new thread - ask a question of others that log on to this
site? TIA.

Regards,

Paige Chandler

 Patrick,

 Welcome to the CF world.

OK, best way to learn? I don't really think there is a "best" way to learn
as such, as each individual has different learning styles and different
 backgrounds etc.

However, I learned pretty quickly in the beginning by looking closely at
the
Tack2 Store (example application included with CFServer) source code and
modifying it to create the kind of storefront I wanted. This took me about
2-3 weeks, but fortunately for me I'd had extensive experience with
O'reilly's webstore (perl script) beforehand and knew exactly what I was
looking to achieve before I set out.

I find the CFML Language reference is an invaluable learning tool, along
with this mailing list and the allaire forums, plus the countless
tutorials
found on CF related web sites.

If you don't have a copy of the language reference, you can get it at the
 following link:

 http://www.allaire.com/documents/cf45docs/acrobatdocs/45langref.pdf

Other good books include Ben Forta's "Web Application Construction Kit"
and
"Application development (Advanced)", both readily vailable from Amazon.

  Hi,

Any recommendations to the best way to learn CF? I'm new to it, and was
wondering if I could get by just reading a book or two on the subject. If
so, what books would you highly
  recommend?

  Thanks,
  Patrick

Re: VisualFoxpro Datasource

2000-04-20 Thread Paige Chandler

Hi Jimmy,

A Visual FoxPro data source may consist of the Database Container (DBC) and
include the VFP tables: .dbf (DataBase File), .fpt (contains the memo data)
and a .cdx or .ndx for index files. Most likely today it would be a .cdx
(combination of indexes). Good luck.

Paige

Can anyone tell me what is needed to setup a Visual Foxpro datasource?

I have the .dbc, .dct, and .dcx files

I can verify the datasource in the Cold Fusion administrator but when I
try
to open the tables in Studio I get an
 error.

 Jimmy
