Re: bulk updating database from txt file

2001-05-27 Thread Peter Cooper

Hi,

I have on which checks the directory for any text files ie *.cfg *.txt - that sort of
thing
then goes into a tag and using cfdirectory takes the extension one at a time
lists them into query and then uses cffile ( Reads them into a list ) to do the
business. Once each is complete it files them into a backup directory. When the last
extension type is done it
goes onto the next.

If you want it let me know. I have a printout of it here as its a development app on
another
system - but if you think you my want it I will type it up and send it over.

Its might not be the best but it seems to work and my help you.

I'm in the UK so there will be time delay etc.

Peter

Subject: bulk updating database from txt file

Hi

I have a largish access database (30,000 records) which needs to be updated
from a comma delimited text file.
There will be some updated records and some new records.
I am not sure how to begin with this
My worries are
how do I do an update loop when some records will have to be inserted and
some updated.
Also this would presumably take a long time to do - how do I handle this

Any suggestions welcome (assume I am a bear with very little brain) or any
tutorials on this sort of thing.

many thanks

Seamus
