Re: Xp, starbucks , and coldfusion

2001-12-21 Thread Richard Ramos

There is no PWS for XP. XP Pro has IIS. We used CF5, Apache1.3.22 on XP
home and it works great. Just make sure you add the LoadModule line after
all other module calls in the init file and you'll be fine.

I installed Apache 1.3.22 on XP with CF 5. The trick is to add the load

Re: *** Complicated SQL riddle

2001-10-29 Thread Richard Ramos

Jason,

You've got the right idea, but I would recommend you make John's boss be 0,
since he would be the top of the chain. Then all you have to do is make your
query and group by ID and Boss. You can easily show all the data using
cfoutput or you can use cftree.

Re: Compacting .cfm files

2001-05-25 Thread Richard Ramos

We had a similar problem here. On a Win2K machine, the page works fine; On
a Win98 machine I would have the same blur problem. I have since fixed the
code to meet XHTML standards (ie. all tags are in lower case, and quotation
marks after all values) and now the page loads perfectly on both systems.
The .cfm file is about 75 KB and it uses CFInput with validation.

Stuck on SQL Query

2001-05-23 Thread Richard Ramos

BlankHello,

I have dug myself into a bit of a rut. I have two tables that are organized
as so.

Production
ProdID | Step1ID | Step2ID | Step3ID

 AUTO |2|3|4
   |3|2|1

User
UserID | UserName
-
   1 | Tom
   2 | Bob
   3 | Mary

How can I set up my query to find information based off of the user? I
understand I can have a many-to-one relation but isn't that based off of
rows? This is just a sample of the Production table. I also will have
dates for each step and need to contain the information based off of a time
period selected. Any insight on how to do a query like this would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Problem writing file

2001-04-11 Thread Richard Ramos

Try making the layout of the page using Word, placing in the CF variables
#'s and all. Save it as RTF and open it in Notepad. Then just add in the
CFFILE code from below for each section between the CF variables and then
save the file in a directory on the server. Add some code to force a
download or open it in the browser window using CFContent. This is how we
do our invoices here.

Re: Two functions with a single onClick?

2001-02-21 Thread Richard Ramos

You could just put them all together. The following code works for me. We
have an upload link that opens a page, places today's date in a text input
box and sets a hidden variable. Pretty crazy, but I had to do it this way
because I had dynamic variables to pass to the new window and which text box
and variable. Here's the anchor tag I use to do all three functions at
once.

Upload

Works like a charm, but I've only tested with IE.

Re: Apache 1.3.17 not being detected by CF server

2001-02-12 Thread Richard Ramos

You need to copy the CF module to the modules directory and add a line in
the httpd.conf file. I don't know it 1.3.17 will work. The latest to work
is 1.3.12, but I have run 1.3.14 before with no problems on Win2K server.

CFFTP - CFLOOP Prob.

2000-11-16 Thread Richard Ramos

I can't see what I am doing wrong. I have the index page where the user
types in the name of the directory, chooses the file to upload finally
selects which servers to send it to via checkbox. Since there is a
possibility of multiple servers, I use CFLOOP to loop throught the
delimitered list. This works fine and all. But if I select any server
minus the first one, I get an error with CFFTP. I know that the CFFTP code
works and that the list is understandable. Any clues here?

Because this formats the number output to a certain standard, in this case,
000 where 4 is only one digit and the standard calls for three digits.

With quotation marks here, got me there.

You need a Quicktime server, or OS X Server. That means it needs to be Mac.

Re: OT: Video format

2000-10-03 Thread Richard Ramos

You need to have a capture card installed on your machine. We use Broadway
cards, but they cost $700 a pop. I would recommend the Osprey 200 card from
Viewcast. They cost about $200 each, I believe. Check their website to be
sure. Also, Winnov Videum, I think it works with both Real and Windows
Media, $200? a pop. There are other cards probably for cheaper, but these
are very good quality cards for the price.

Re: Video format

2000-10-03 Thread Richard Ramos

It depends on what you are running and how many people will access the site.
I like Real because you can instantly jump to another point in the video.
Media player has to buffer after you jump. Then come price. Both formats
have free encoders but Windows has a free streaming server software. I
recommend getting this if you are going to have many people viewing the
videos.

Finally, since this a tutorial, you want to have captions. This makes it
easier for the viewer to know what is being said it the sound is low. Both
players have caption formats, SAMI and SMIL for Media player and Real Player
respectively. To create these formats you could use Magpie, free, to time
the captions and save in the proper format. You can get more info from
Microsoft and Real about using these formats.

There's also Quicktime, if you have a Mac, picture and sound are excellent.
Real also has a great picture but the sound is okay and ASF has a good
picture with good sound. Take a look at these three formats. They're all
about the same in quality and compression size.

Hope that helps a bit.

Re: OMG!!!!!

Ummm We use ColdFusion and have our site translated in Chinese and
Japanese. The way to use unicode in CF is to store the unicode values in
the tables. You can use Frontpage to convert the unicode characters into
uni values easily.

Re: Ünicode -- no support?

2000-09-11 Thread Richard Ramos

We get around this by entering the unicode value into a table, the web
browser interprets it and shows the corresponding character. Frontpage will
quickly convert the character into a numeric unicode value. Just enter the
text in the html section, preview it and click back to the html and you're
set. It should look like this &12345.

We use pcAnywhere and IMail and its easy to manage. To add a new account
takes a couple of minutes. To add a domain maybe 5-10 minutes. Changing
passwords takes a minute or two. The user's guide is well organized and

Re: Translations on your website . . .

2000-08-05 Thread Richard Ramos

Sorry, I wasn't too specific. Here's what we do.

Use one generic page and a value between 1 and 5 to choose languages. Now
if you have one or two words then retrieve them from a table, but if you
have some paragraphs of text, put them together in a folder and have them
end with a corresponding value, same goes for images. Now on your generic
page is all of your code. This is just one way of doing this, but could be
a little slow if you have a lot of traffic. The other option to take into
consideration is how often do you plan on updating you site? Our site uses
seven languages but we have different text files for each language. But I
guess it helps that I know Spanish, French, Italien and some Japanese.

By the way, shameless plug, we do web site translations in addition to our
subtitling service for DVD's and streaming media.

Why not have a session id that chooses one language and use to
add the page in the language the user selects? That way when you go to
another page it brings up only the content for that language.

Actually on Win 2k server, you can add an IP address and not reboot. Other
computers were able to see it fine afterwards.

Re: Sry ot 2000 server question

2000-05-31 Thread Richard Ramos

If I'm understanding correctly, you want the index file to be something like
index.cfm instead of index.htm.

Well, all you have to do is open Internet Service Manager, select the web
site, right click and select Properties, select the Documents tab and select
Enable Default Documents. Click on Add and in the window that comes up,
enter index.cfm, or whatever page you want to be default. Click ok. Make
sure that the page you choose is the only one in the box.

That should get the server to automatically serve out index.cfm

I had the same problem with CF 4.5 Pro. The way around it is to install
without examples and then re-install with examples only. If you don't
re-install, the server won't be configured ccorrectly, ie. the test page
won't work because the example datasource and database we're not installed.

Hope that helps.

Re: OT: Anyone know about firewall software?

2000-05-12 Thread Richard Ramos

Sorry, any platform or even seperate hardware is fine. I'm trying to find
as many solutions, then I'll narrow it down.

See, we have about 30 IP addresses available to us, but we don't want to
limit all internet traffic to only one IP. So far all of the firewalls I
can find share the internet connection from one IP. We want to use all
available.

What I did was change the default web site, that was allready set-up, and
made it available on IP: 127.0.0.1 but you could create a new web site and
set it to this IP. But this site must have the root directory in
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ that way it will have access to the CF directory.

Hope that helps.

I'm making a page that will let users =
view info=20
about programs we use.  The page has a list of four major groups =
and an=20
others group.  The others group is a drop down list.  I want =
to=20
display the name of programs in this list, but the page I am accessing =
uses the=20
ID # of the program.  Here's the code below.  Maybe someone =
can=20
help.

Thanks in advance for your =
help.
