"Harpoon" Release is Final & Available

2001-05-14 Thread Sam Coe

We are happy to announce the availability of The Macromedia Flash Component
Kit for ColdFusion. The kit, first announced in November 2000 under the
code name 'Harpoon', is now available for download from the ColdFusion
Developers Exchange.

The Macromedia Flash Component Kit for ColdFusion is a resource for
ColdFusion developers to quickly and easily add Macromedia Flash elements to
their Web applications. ColdFusion developers can immediately take
advantage of the design and delivery benefits of Macromedia Flash and
Macromedia Flash Player without learning a new authoring product. For more
advanced developers, the Component Kit provides guidelines and documentation
for creating and customizing new Macromedia Flash components for ColdFusion
that can be shared with other developers.

The Component Kit includes 4 prebuilt Macromedia Flash sample components,
guidelines detailing how to use and customize components and ColdFusion
custom tags that control the behavior of those components.

The four Macromedia Flash sample components included with the kit are:

*Calendar
*Calculator
*Horizontal Menu
*Cascading Menu (for Microsoft Internet Explorer)

The Component Kit is available for free download from the Allaire Developers
Exchange for the Windows and UNIX platforms. To access the components, type
"Macromedia Flash" into the Developers Exchange Search window
(http://devex.allaire.com/developer/gallery/index.cfm) or visit the
following page to link directly to the kit:

http://www.allaire.com/handlers/index.cfm?ID=20983

The FAQ and license agreements are also available on this page.

Best,
-Sam

RE: BETA 5

2001-02-06 Thread Sam Coe

Before you "Go Get It", I'd strongly encourage you to go through the Allaire
Beta program to register for it and AT LEAST read the release notes at
http://beta.allaire.com/betadocs/coldfusion50b1/releasenotes.htm. At this
stage of the Beta, a few things are critical to note (from the release
notes):

* Before installing this release, it's very important that any previous
versions of ColdFusion or Allaire ClusterCATS (clustering and load
balancing) have been removed.
* ColdFusion Server 5.0 Beta 1 on Linux may crash on Linux servers with two
or more processors. This limitation will be addressed in the next beta
release.
* To access the new ColdFusion 5.0 logging functionality, you need to delete
or rename your existing log files. On Windows NT, by default log files are
stored in cfusion\log. For all other environments, ColdFusion log files are
stored by default in /opt/coldfusion/log.
* Advanced Security is NOT supported in Beta 1. As a result, do not install
this release of ColdFusion on a system running Allaire Spectra.
* Currently, the High Availability Controls are only supported on Microsoft
IIS and Netscape Enterprise Server. This restriction will be removed for
Beta 2.
* Informix ODBC and Native does not work on Solaris and Linux

Go to Beta.allaire.com to get the full picture.

CFX_Cybercash Re-posted

2001-01-23 Thread Sam Coe

Yes, the original Allaire CFX_Cybercash component from Allaire was withdrawn
about two weeks ago, and Cybercash has updated and re-posted it to the
Allaire DevEx with additional information and support contact info. Note
that this is an install EXE file, and not a ZIP with a readme, so you need
to have CF installed to review what functionality is included.

The release of this tag formally moves support to Cybercash from Allaire and
should eliminate some of the "finger-pointing" that was happening with the
older component which was released under a joint development and marketing
effort.

Dear Allaire Customer,

I am writing to inform you that today, January 16, 2001, Allaire Corporation
and Macromedia, Inc. signed a definitive agreement to merge. I'm incredibly
excited about this merger, and what I believe it means for Allaire
customers.

We've partnered closely with Macromedia for many years, and I've found they
share our vision and passion for working with developers, building great
products, and driving innovation in the Internet industry. Fundamentally,
this merger is about creating a company that will provide the products and
services you need to be successful. As a combined company, we'll deliver a
comprehensive product family of tools and servers for building the next
generation of solutions on the Web. The combined company will be the world's
leading supplier of software for web professionals.

It is a tremendous privilege to work with the Allaire community, and I'm
looking forward to continuing that relationship as Macromedia's CTO. I'd
like to invite you to visit our web site for more information about the
merger, and feel free to share your thoughts by emailing us at
