Re: 100% height and css

2005-11-10 Thread Simeon Bateman
Height 100% is nearly impossible to reach in css along. However many
workarounds to browser issues have been created. One of the simplist and my
personal favorite is faux columns.

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/fauxcolumns/

With this you set a repeating backgound in the parent of your three columns.
it is always as long as the longest child and there for shows up correctly.

I love css and have yet to find anything that I couldnt do in an amazingly
short time in css. checkout csszengarden.com http://csszengarden.com and
look for examples that are similar to your layout. its an amazing
learn-by-example tool.

Good luck and hit me up if you need specifc help with css.

Hey Guys,

There are several people that would like to see this feature added. However
as I understand it the word-wrap features is at odds with the code-folding
feature and it has a much larger following.

So unless the following of users that wish to see word-wrap outpasses those
who enjoy code folding, I dont see it soon. Now that being said, if anyone
would like to volunteer to both write the word-wrap and create a preference
to turn off the code-folding, then I would love to have a chat with you :)

The CFXPayFlowPro.class file goes in the classes directory for your cfusion

Re: URGENT - Flash CFForm and Global functions

2005-08-30 Thread Simeon Bateman
Well there are a couple ways I thought about approaching this problem,
however I am not in a spot to try either of them out.

The first would be to see if you can create and instance of
mx.formatters.CurrencyFormatter via AS and then use the format() method of
that to output your formatted string.

If you cant create an instance the CurrencyFormatter, you might be able to
trick cf into giving you one to play with. You might play with the validator
on a cfinput to see if it uses formatter objects to do the mask and such. If
you can get cf to output a formatter you could use as to manipulate it to
validate your data for you.

Sorry if this information is off base, I cant test it just yet, but it might
give you something to go with.

Re: Need Help with Binding

2005-06-26 Thread Simeon Bateman
I cant tell you why this is the case, but if i lowercase the var
firstname in the gridcolumn and the bind var then it works fine.

Here is my example code from yours.

cfscript
artists = queryNew('firstname,lastname,city','varchar,varchar,varchar');
queryAddrow(artists,1);
querySetCell(artists,'firstname', 'simeon');
/cfscript

cfform format=flash width=500 scriptsrc=scripts

   cfgrid name=grid query=artists selectmode=single
   cfgridcolumn name=firstName header=First Name
   cfgridcolumn name=lastName
   cfgridcolumn name=city
   /cfgrid
cfinput type=text label=First Name name=city
bind={grid.selectedItem.firstName}
/cfform

My first guess was that it was a case-sensitive issue because the
binding vars are done in flash so they are case-sensitive unlike the
rest of cf. I am guessing it has something to do with how the data
gets into flash. I know on queries that are returned via remoting
they do funny things like uppercase all the variable names and such,
so I would expect that the reasoning is likely the same.

i am sure someone with more knowledge on this will chime in. I just
wanted to share so you can keep trudging along :)

Not sure if this is part of the problem, I am on a mac so I cant test
your IE scenario.

But the link you sent is for your personal domain. And when i add the
products I am sent to another domain for the ssl. Your session is
bound to your cookie and your cookie is bound to your domain. So if
your domain switches mid stream then your session wont be available.

This problem is most obvious when users visit your site using
domain.com and then add thier stuff to the cart and then checkout.
But in most cases folks buy the ssl cert for www.domain.com and the
link to checkout forces users to https://www.domain.com; and even the
switch from domain.com to www.domain.com sets different sessions.

like i said this may not be part of your problem, but Ithought I would
see if i could help.

Talk to you later

The quick and dirty solution for you in this case is to upload the
scripts directory from your cf admin. Then use the scriptsrc

Then you dont have to worry about the admin and what they will map. I

Re: cfform_flash in shared hosting environment cfform_flash: invalid xhtml

2005-06-22 Thread Simeon Bateman
I think you might be going further than this than you need to. I
literally created a scripts folder at the root of my site. Uploaded
the files from /CFIDE/administrator/scripts/ into it. Then on my
cfform i set scriptsrc=scripts/.

Thats all it took for me to get it working. Now granted I am only
using the flash forms so perhaps there is more that you need to make
it work, but I thought I would make sure I was very clear on what I am
doing.

Here is an example of a page I do this on.

I've created a virtual directory /cfidescripts that points to

Why? Is this a server setting from the hosting-comp. or what can I do

Re: cfform_flash in shared hosting environment cfform_flash: invalid xhtml

2005-06-22 Thread Simeon Bateman
The person having problems on the link you refer to suggests the batch
install because they have many sites on the server and dont want to
have the scripts files copied to each of them.

If you only have one site then this should not be a problem for you.
Even if you have more its only a problem if you mind having copies of
those files in the sites.

But good luck finding a solution.

Re: mac cfm ?

2005-06-22 Thread Simeon Bateman
What did you deploy on before? if its a j2ee install you may be able
to copy the server instance and move it to the mac.

But on the mac the j2ee install is the only install available so if
you are running the win/lin standalone server you chances for a smooth
conversion are slim.

However you can use the .car files to make your move smooth even if it
cant be a direct transfer.

good luck

As someone who wrote a java class to tie into they JAI and then wrote
a cfc wrapper to that class for this solution, I would definatly
recommend the Alagad component.

Its 100% CF, and its quick and has alot of functionality. Not to
mention that the time required to do it on your own, far out weighs
the cost of the license. $75 covers one server and you can use
mappings to get that done so you dont need multiple copies of the
file.

Image.cfc is a great tool.

Re: New CFFORM website

2005-03-28 Thread Simeon Bateman
I certainly dont believe that the cfform.com project is sponsored by
macromedia. The fact that Mike put together the site and the example
is a sign of his enthusiasm for the technology.

I took the site as a source for examples of the type of things you can
do. I would never expect to take any sample code and just plug it
into my existing applications.

Given that these features of cfform are so new I would think we are
very lucky to have such deditcated profesionals at Macromedia, that
they would work all day to build this technology for us, then give up
their free time to build examples and promote community within.

Perhaps I misread the tone of your article, but I am very excited
about the new technology available to us through cf7. And I am
thankful for the time MIke and all the other Macromedian's put in
bringing this technology to us.

Re: Hosting

2005-01-17 Thread Simeon Bateman
I hate to always be the Crystal Tech basher on the list, but as I am
currently working on transfering my sites away from them, I figure I
should chime in as well.

The cfmx server that i am on seems to be down for about 15 minutes at
a shot about twice a week. I get the message that says cf is too busy
to accept any new conections.

And I would guess its happened every couple months where I find that I
cant get to the sites because of network problems, and when I try to
call I cant get through. I wonder if they are using some kind of VoIP
because as soon as the sites come back up, so does the phones.

However whenever I call, no one seems to be able to confirm that they
are having any problems, which is probably a standard response from
the support team.

On the flip side, when I have talked about my problems in the past,
others have chimed in to say they never have problems and the support
is great. So perhaps its just my luck :). But I feel obligated to
share my experiences anyway.

Good Luck in your hosting endevours.

Re: CFMX and Fedora Core 3

2004-12-03 Thread Simeon Bateman
When I did an install of cfmx on JRun on fc3 last week, I ran into
this same error.

It has to do with the SElinux that is implemented in fc3. I only know
how to change it via the gui, but if you go into the system security
menu, under system settings there is a tab for SELinux. You can
unckeck the top two boxes and reboot.

SELinux creates many restrictions on what apache has access to in the
hopes of create a more secure server. I believe that in the attempt,
the lock down where it can access files from.

Anyhow. It worked for me. YMMV.

Re: What's in your toolkit?

2004-11-23 Thread Simeon Bateman
I am an avid CFE user on both the mac and linux platforms.

I know that currently in the works is a plugin for CFE that has a tree
view of your app structure, and hopefully code completion and some
insight.

In the meantime its very easy to add the FB4 verbs to the html.xml
file which will allow you to have code completion which is a nice
step. I think the user.xml file is intended for such uses, but i
think its library is only loaded on cf prefixed tags

I have implemented some but not all or I would shoot you a copy of my file.

I am not personally working on it as I am not really up to speed on the
functions that involve the process of coding a FB4 app (i.e. what would
 really help etc)

I currently do more FB3 apps so I know what I would LIKE in there (e.g. open
the template referenced in cfinlcude, tag completion of XFA's ,
highlighting my dsp_, fbx_, act_ and qry_ files, that kinda thing).

The main thing about fusebox 4 (as I gather, please dont get your rocks out
just yet!) is that its mainly writing XML, so maybe an XML plugin and a DTD
would be the best thing forward rather than a CF tag completion? I KNOW I am
wrong but what features would you like to see, and what would help you do
the thing you do with FB4?

Having said that, if you are a bit nifty at muddling with XML (and you
should be if you are doing fb4 apps!) you can add your own tags in the
 user.xml (usually found hanging round
 eclipse/plugins/com.rohanclan.cfml.version/dictionary/) alhough I think
Rob mentioned they are generally triggered by cf and I guess that would be
of sod all use if you are looking to do include template=doTheTango

As I said before.. think to yourself man, I could really use with..
zyx and add it to the feature list over at http://cfeclipse.tigris.org

On another note... you can use snippets, you could create a snippet and fill
 it with the following cfinclude template=$${template}

and assign the trigger text of inc then anytime you type inc + Ctrl+i it
would give you a nice popup for you to fill in your template.

Have a look at either my blog
 http://cybersonic.blogspot.com/2004/08/cfeclipse-tips-and-tricks.html

or a better version of it at CFEclipse's wiki hosted at Spike's site
 http://www.spike.org.uk/cfeclipse/comments/Snippets

to see how to use snippets to maximum effect (I swear by them rather than at
 them)

If you get a nice library of your useful FB4 snippets, share em and I shall
have a look at how they can be integrated into a fb4 plugin (unless someone
out there is already doing it!) or jus simply share em :D

 I hope that helps!

Re: CSS and Debugging

2004-10-20 Thread Simeon Bateman
I have found a quick fix for this is to add a div to the bottom of
your site, while debugging.

Give this div a style with clear:both;. It will force anything above
it in code to be above and anything below to be below. This could be
on your normal footer which I do sometimes, but if you layout doesnt
allow for that then a temporary div can do the trick.

Hope that helps.

To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm one of the few that has it.(Team Fusebox!)Noted here for you viewing
pleasure is the readme that details the changes.

-
 Fusebox 4.1changelog
 -

v 4.1.0:

IMPLEMENTED-by popular request, the standard FB include verb now can save
its target content to a content variable in the same way as the do verb.
Note that an include that specifies a contentvariable with
overwrite=false means that even the include itself will not occur if the
specified contentvariable already exists. As in do overwrite=TRUE and
 append=FALSE are the defaults

IMPLEMENTED-one-stop core files:install a given version of core files in
one spot and have your FB access them from anywhere in any web root. Note:
this feature is directly responsible for the increased number of
application.fusebox variables introduced in this version, and in the
 requirement for FUSEBOX_APPLICATION_PATH (which see)

IMPLEMENTED- the local variable FUSEBOX_APPLICATION_PATHmust now be
provided just before the call to the Fusebox runtime. This is the relative
path from the web root (where index.cfm is) to the location of the root of
the application files (fusebox.xml, fuses, circuits, etc)The need for this
variable is a direct consequence of implementing the one-stop core files

IMPLEMENTED-conditional reloading of XML in development mode.During
development mode, the core files will determine if the fusebox.xml and
circuit.xml files need to be reloaded for the current request, and only
 reload them if needed.

IMPLEMENTED-optional conditional regeneration of the parse file, applicable
only in development mode.A new fusebox.xml parameter conditionalParse
(which defaults to 'false', to mimic Fusebox 4.0 behavior) controls whether
the core files should attempt to determine if the parse file is up to date
and avoid regenerating it.The hedge attempt to determine is used because
there are certain situations regarding complex plugins and lexicon
extensions where the core files will consider the parse file up to date,
when it actually isn't.For most situations, however, conditional parsing
can be enabled with no adverse effects. If your plugins and lexicons are
stable since the last parsing then you should encounter no problems with a
TRUE. When in doubt during that key in-between time, prefer TRUE which will
fully parse on each request as in FuseBox4.0

DECLINED-addition of a preRequest plugin phase, and a corresponding
postRequest plugin phase. Note: preRequest would likely be excluded from
any use of other plugin phases' shared variable space, although this
restriction would not apply to postRequest. Thus, preRequest would just
cycle through a list of templates defined in fusebox.xml.

IMPLEMENTED- in the fusebox.xml file, the do verb in globalfuseactions/
section of the fusebox.xml has been deprecated in favor of fuseaction
which mimics its functionality completely. This section of fusebox.xml
allowed use of ONLY do verbs and the special rule confused many
developers. The do and fuseaction in globalfuseactions/ will operate
interchangably in FB4.1 so that your existing FB4.0 apps don't break, but
the do will be dropped in some future release. The do verb continues to
operate as normal in circuit.xml files

IMPLEMENTED-addition of a application-wide template fusebox.init.cfm which
loads at the top of every request. It runs after form/url variables are
copied to attributes scope and after completion of the Loader, but before
the default fuseaction is applied. This file can be a helpful substitute for
application constants and has full access to the entire application.fusebox
structure. Depending on your app it may replace much of the need for the
Globals preProcess plugin common in so many FB4 applications and for an
application.cfm, at least in terms of your actual Fusebox app.

IMPLEMENTED-addition of a new fusebox parameter of ignoreBadGrammar. If
TRUE (default), the core file will ignore any unknown (or poorly formatted)
verbs encountered during parsing; if FALSE, it will through a Fusebox
exception, which can be caught and dealt with via a developer-defined error
 template.

IMPLEMENTED-addition of new Fusebox verbs of instantiate and invoke,
which make working with CFCs or java classes easier. (Note: this also makes
Fusebox an excellent skeleton framework for Flash-based OO apps without the
overhead of an OO framework.) The instantiate/invoke combo can also be used
 for basic webservice calls.

IMPLEMENTED - a new section in fusebox.xml to define the availability and
type of classes that instantiate and invoke can work with

IMPLEMENTED-each circuit in the

I was showing this problem to my boss just an hour or so ago...

You should never use ^.*_date$ (regular _expression_ for those not in
the know) at the name of a form field you intend to use. If you
include an input in a form which ends with the string _date
coldfusion will attempt to validate that a matching form field is a
date value when the form is submitted.

i.e. ml_3_31_date tells the server to make sure that the value of the
form field ml_3_31 is a date value if it is present in the form.

Additional unuseable endings include _required and _number (or
 _numeric I don't remember).

Re: Cannot establish socket -

I was recently having this problem as well. After doing a little bit
of searching I found an article, (might even have been an HoF Post)
that suggested that setting up the db in window odbc, and then setting
up the datasource to use an odbc connection would fix the problem.

I set this up and havn't had the error in two weeks.

I know this may not be an option to do directly through your hosting
control panel, but you may be able to work with your host company to
get it set up.

Good Luck.

Re: Fusebox

2004-09-03 Thread Simeon Bateman
Hey Andrew,

I can't believe no one has responded to this. Its typically the
flame-bait that starts long threads on this list.

I have been developing fusebox apps for about 3 years.Started with
fb3, and once I switched companies in december and had access to cfmx,
immediatly switched to fb4.

Have been amanager of a group of developers I can say that above all
else choosing a framework has the benifit of putting all your
developers on the same page.No longer does any individual developer
have to guess at where someone else put certain logic or will this
conform with the groups efforts. Also if it comes time where you need
to bring on additional developers, it is very easy to single out
people skills or show them the path to get up to speed with your
development.

Now I know that this isnt selling fusebox per se, but I think it
covers the more important topic.Having A framework is very
important.

Ok, so fusebox.I like fusebox because it makes sense for me.It is
procedural and structured. My own develpment efforts had brought me
along much the sam path as fusebox, whil I was leaning CF.And the
benifits that came from upgraing to fb4 made it a no brainer, those
including flexibility and speed.

However its important to note that depending on where your expertise
lies, it make make more sense for your team to adopt Mach-ii.Which
is of couse an OO frame work for CF Development. This is also an
implicit invocation architecture, which basically means that that the
peices that run when a page is requested are not hard coded at design
time.

I think its also important to note that if you like the procedural
approach but like the benifits of Implicit Invocation, you can check
out OnTap.I will be honest here, in that I have not checked out
OnTap, and the only reason I know what I do about it because Sean
Corfield mentioned it when he spoke last month at the Portland CFUG.

Anyhow, I hope some of this helps you decide what the next step for
you will be.For more information about Fusebox you can visit
fusebox.org.The forums are a great place to search there and there
are a couple books out.For mach-ii visit http://mach-ii.com/ or
http://mach-ii.com/.And with any luck Issac will see this post and
put up some information about OnTap.

Good Luck

Hi Everyone.

We are just about to start a major new project, well actually a
complete upgrade from the ground up of an old project, but I have been
looking at doing it in a much more structured way and I wanted some
opinion about using Fusebox. We have never used it before, but we are
all highly experienced CF programmers (5+ years). What I'm really
looking for is some explaining of why it is better to use the Fusebox
method than just straight forward CF.

Also, can anyone point me in the direction of a good online
introduction to Fusebox as there doesn't seem to be much on the
 Fusebox website.

 Thanks

 Andrew.

Re: OT Notebook recommendations

2004-08-31 Thread Simeon Bateman
I used to be a huge supported of Dell laptops, they have received
about 35 purchases based on my recomendations to clients and friends.

However in the last year I have switched my support to ibm and the
think pad.Much better laptops.better built in features and more
rugged than the dells. The seem to hold up better even those they are
lighter and sleeker than their dell counterparts.

Good Luck with the new laptop!

  Dell Inspiron 8600
Toshiba Tecra S1-QW6 Centrino 1.7GHz Notebook
HP Pavilion ZT3380US Intel Centrino M 1.7GHz Notebook

It will be used mainly for some development and demos.
Needs to run CFMX, MS-SQL2000, CFStudio, VisualStudio .Net etc

I have the Dell Inspiron 1100 and have been very happy with it. The
only suggestion that I would make is to get as much RAM in the
notebook as possible. I would go with either 768 or 1024Megs of RAM.
Anything less is not sufficient for running the above apps.

Re: OT: Multiple columns via CSS with position:relative?

2004-07-06 Thread Simeon Bateman
I'm attempting to set up web pages with multiple columns.Right now,
to get it working I have to have them set to position:absolute except
for the longest one which gets position:relative (so the footer is
correctly aligned). Is there a better way of doing this? Thanks.

Depending on the structure of the document you could set it up so you have a container around the three columns. If you set the position of the container to relative it will reset the 0,0 mark for the items inside which can make for easier positioning. You can then set the columns inside to be positions absolute with top at 0 and left being the offset.

I have seen several 3 column layouts that instead of using absolute positioning, will use margins to set the column where they want them to go.Somehow this seems like an amazing hack to me and not my personal preference.

As far as you footer goes you should be able to style it with a clear:both; which will force it to be below the columns and anything else. This will work as long as the columns precede the footer in code.

Hope some of that helps, or helps you find a better way to get done what you want to accomplish.

Still No Luck

2004-06-08 Thread Simeon Bateman
Well I appreciate all of you help and comments.I am still unable to connect to those tools.

For anyone who is listening, I have run the Repair Permission and I have checked my persmissions on those directories and and files and all are well.I know how to check permissions but I thought what the heck and i reset them anyway.I am an admin, but none of those things seem to be enough.

So I guess here is my next question.Who's support line do i call.Apple because it was thier security patch, or Macromedia becuase its only their products that dont work?

OT: MX2004 Tools and New OS X Update

2004-06-07 Thread Simeon Bateman
I am just looking to the fellow Mac users in the group.I installed the latest security update from Apple today, and after a reboot, I cant use any of my macromedia tools.

This happened last time there was an update but it was different. Then it opened the product and told me my product was exprired.I found a hot fix on macromedia' site for that.

This time before ever opening the product ( Dreamweaver, flash, fireworks...) it pops up a prompt asking for my username and passwork to access the application.

At the behest of a friend, I ran the repair permissions tool in the disk utility. But that didnt change my problem.

Has anybody else taken the update?Similiar problems?Anybody think they might have a solution?I know this is off topic but this is the biggest pool of Macromedia/OSX users i know of.None of my other applications are effected.

Thanks for any help.

But it's not changing the values, it's only coercing them as much as it
needs for evaluation. Not like a function call that returns boolean.
It one of the little bits of weirdness that are present in loosely-typed
 languages.

From: Barney Boisvert [EMAIL PROTECTED] Actually, I
think what's happening is CF is returning the
  value of the last
evaluated portion of the _expression_.In the first, both
  need evaluation, so
we return 3, the second one.If the second, only the first
  needs evaluation
(becase we know the _expression_ can't be true if either part
  is false), so
   false is returned.

   That's just a guess though.

Looks like that was a good guess. I tried swapping it to be
#(3 and True)# and it does display true.

So, that explains what it does.It sure doesn't explain why.
That just seems retarded. It seems like it should return the
boolean result, and not whatever was last evaluated.

  Thanks!

Re: Web Service to Validate US Address

2004-03-01 Thread Simeon Bateman
Although I am sure the cfc that Bryan provided will be adequate for the task, I thought I would also post this link to the USPS web tools.I wrote a set up custom tags for a previous employer that connected to these API's.One of many of the services they provide is address verification.I never hear much mention of these tools so I dont know if people dont know about them or if everyone has found better solutions.but check out http://www.usps.com/webtools/ to see if it helps you out.
