OT - Smart Cards, Credit Cards / Storage Limits

2003-06-03 Thread mtangorre
My apologies for the OT post, I am hoping maybe someone has some
experience or knowledge in the following:
I am trying to find out how much data can be stored on the magnetic stripe
on a credit card. In addition, smart card technology and smart chips that
are now being embedded onto credit cards and such are also of interest.
Does anyone have any companies, links, POCs, etc on the topics? In
addition, anyone with experience programming card readers (swipers) and/or
smart card type technologies please contact me off list:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks. Again my apologies for OT post... there are a variety of skill
sets on this list in addition to CF and I thought I might have some luck.

I'm sure a lot of people don't want to hear about it either, though, and
it's pretty off-topic for a CF programming list.

go into powerpoint.
on the file menu, click properties.

Subject: PowerPoint Problem in Frames

I have built an application using frames with a navigation bar in the bottom
frame. The user gets a list of files available for viewing. Most are in
PowerPoint and are in various locations (on web servers). When one file is
selected, the navigation bar allows the user to select "Previous" or "Next"
to view the files which display in the top frame. We use IE 6.0, but I've
had this problem in previous IE versions also. The first PowerPoint slide
opens correctly in the frame, but the next and previous slides will not open
unless I have PowerPoint running in the background (open it then minimize
it). This is unacceptable for the customer. Has anyone come across a similar
problem?

Subject: RE: windows .net server 2003 and cf

We just got cfmx working with IIS6 on .NET after trying a bunch of different
things. We uninstalled our existing cfmx installation and removed all the
folders and then did the following.

First Attempt
We decided maybe we could fool the cfmx installer by changing the registry
before we installed it by changing the "Major Version", "SetupString", and
"VersionString" to values from an IIS 5 install. But the install still
failed at the same spot. So we just installed it as standalone.

Second Attempt
We copied the wsconfig.jar file to wsconfig.zip and extracted the jrun.dll
for the windows isapi folder of the file. Then we created an extension
mapping is IIS for .cfm to that dll file. That didn't seem to work for us,
but we may have missed a step somewhere on that one.

Third Attempt
We just followed the directions from that link I send
earlier(http://phydiux.com/cfmx_and_IIS6/) and we got it to work just fine.
We just copied the cfide directory to inetpub\wwwroot and everything was
working fine.

So that's what we did to get it to work, granted we did go changing the
registry and that's not always a good idea. I am sure there are other ways
to get this working.

While those instructions certainly may work, they involve editing the
registry to trick the wsconfig tool. It's worth noting that there's an
alternative approach, which has worked for me whenever I've had problems
with wsconfig - for example, after applying Updater 2 to CFMX running
against Apache 2.0.43.

The wsconfig utility is a runnable jar file. When you run it, it extracts
the appropriate module, places it in a directory, and configures your web
server to use the module. You can do this yourself, manually.

1. Copy \cfusionmx\runtime\lib\wsconfig.jar to wsconfig.zip.
2. Open in your favorite zip utility.
3. Extract the appropriate module.
4. Edit your web server configuration to use the module.

Of course, you have to be able to find the appropriate module, but they're
pretty clearly named within the jar file. You also have to know how to set
up your web server to use the module. In IIS, you can simply add the
appropriate ISAPI extension mapping in the Internet Service Manager; in
Apache, you have to add some lines like this to httpd.conf (note that there
will be differences depending on where you've placed the module):

LoadModule jrun_module "C:/CFusionMX/runtime/lib/wsconfig/2/mod_jrun20.so"

JRunConfig Verbose false
JRunConfig Apialloc false
JRunConfig Ssl false
JRunConfig Ignoresuffixmap false
JRunConfig Serverstore
"C:/CFusionMX/runtime/lib/wsconfig/2/jrunserver.store"
JRunConfig Bootstrap 127.0.0.1:51010
   #JRunConfig Errorurl
AddHandler jrun-handler .jsp .jws

Now, there's one missing piece, but so far it hasn't made any difference
that I've seen. That's the creation of a "/jrunscripts" web server mapping.
When you run wsconfig with IIS 5, that gets mapped to the directory
containing the module. Does anyone know exactly what this is for? It doesn't
seem to matter if it's omitted, as far as I've seen.

Finally, I mentioned setting up the connector module as an ISAPI extension.
It can also be set up as an ISAPI filter, but I've stuck to using the ISAPI
extension, personally.

RE: CFFORM vs FORM

2003-02-11 Thread mtangorre
for all those not up to speed with JS... check out www.pengoworks.com for the the
javascript API (QForms)! Dan Switzer offers non- JSers a chance to use a lot of the
desired features of JS without actually learning javascript to the elvel that would
noirmally be needed.

I suggest you to use simple form tags instead of CFFORM. CFFORM
blackboxes

a lot of things and does not always lead to the desired results.
Furthermore, in very simple forms it's overkill because it adds
javascript

to each call.

My prefered method is it to create forms with the standard form tag and
add
my own custom check routines written in javascript (and of course on the

action page).

Best regards,

Peter

The cfmx server in one of our environments is not functioning correctly.
If we get it working, it works for like 5 minutes, then it dies. So far
the only I can fetch out of the log files is in one of the jrun log
files. When I say dead I mean that all .cfm files don't work, like the
browser hangs waiting for it to load, and after like 10 minutes, it says
something like server error, the server was unable to process your
request. Meanwhile the jrun service is using 100% of the CPU. Any
ideas on what might be wrong or anything to help us diagnose the
problem.

Here is the error in the jrun log file.

I don't understand how this insures that cookies are terminated on browser
close. It just looks like you are just resaving the same token. Would you
explain how this works?

Hi Robert:

A quick tip, we had a situation with mixed sessin identities not long
ago. The reason - ghost-ing machines which had a CFID/CFTOKEN cookie, so
all ghosted machines had the same cookie - same identity of swapped
identities in the middle of session.

Also, putting this in your Application.cfm would make sure that these
cookies are terminated upon browser close;

Hope that helps,

The cookie is never written to the user's hard disk... they stay memory resident only.

If they're an intelligent Schmoe then they weren't vulnerable to this worm;
it has nothing to do with SQL Server not "cutting it". Bugs and
vulnerabilities in software are a fact of life; these are not limited to
Microsoft products, either. The blame here lies with system administrators
and those who fall into the "everything is someone else's fault" group.
