Re: (Admin) Delays and doubles
Have you considered Lsoft (www.lsoft.com)? They are the original Listserv people, and have not only the fastest and best ($$$) service around, but also economical versions as well. I ran a list hosted there, with their "Home Ease" service, and there was just no comparison between it and the free lists around. Pricing starts at $8/month, and 300 people on a list costs $34/month. They also have spiffy archives available for 25 cents/MB/month, and more spam fighting features than any other list I've seen. You can get a free version of ListServ Lite to host on your own server, too. (I don't work for them and have no connection... just a satisfied customer wishing that all of the lists I'm on were hosted at Lsoft.) -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebarRstsbodyRsts/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.

They've been acting up a bit over the last week and I've finally dealt with them (I hope). Here's what's happening: Doubles - When a message is sent to the list, it is 'duplicated' once for each person on the list. If that duplication is stopped in the middle, when it is restarted it goes from the beginning. I got 3 copies of a few messages myself, so it was a global thing rather than limited to a few individuals. Usually its much more limited. Speed - The list has been getting a LOT of badly formatted email packets. This is really getting to be a pain and I've emailed the up-servers about them. We saw this last week with the stoneage email and that was at least getting to the list. Other packets are even more deadly. Another speed issue is built into security. I altered the list a week or two back to stop ALL relaying. This means that posts can go to the list ONLY if the recipient is local to House of Fusion or a list. This is a major anti-spam thing. I also set blocking for a number of spammers on the server. These combine to give the list a bit of a slowdown even of normal posts. If you get a 5-10 minute delay in post to receipt, that's why. Future - I've looked over IMS and Lyris. I really like IMS but it doesn't have a solid listserver package at the moment. FYI - FusionMail 2.0 (currently in beta) will have a built-in list server. Also, the iMS solution is more flexible than Lyris and is much cheaper. Regards, Howie I like IMS and would use it (and probably will as a mailserver) but can't use if for the list. As such, I'm going to try and move over to Lyris. The only problem is that Lyris costs $4500 for what we want. I'm currently recovering from losing everything in stock and will not be able to get this together myself. For this reason, I'm asking any in the community who would like to contribute to do so by using Paypal or mail. I'm actually going to have a proposal to Allaire about corporate funding for Fusion Authority as well, but Paypal can be accessed here: https://secure.paypal.x.com/affil/pal=mdinowit%40i-2000.com I do apologize for the inconvenience and hope that the plusses of the lists outweigh the problems that come up once in a while. Michael: It's possible I can help you out *takes off Allaire hat*. I can maybe track down a linux system running mailman or majordomo that we can use for mailing lists. I run a few large lists on egroups.com. Cost about $50 a year and absolutely no headaches. It is so cheap that it isn't worth your time configuring your own email server anymore, or paying for an internet connection for it. I'll be nice about egroups and just say no. My personal and professional opinion of them is not for the weak of heart. I run a few large lists on egroups.com.
