Jochem, I tried looking for the unicode driver in the drop down, but all that is listed is Access. The dropdown you are talking about is on the CFA Datasources page right (Add datasource above a listing of all the current datasources). It's the one that says Microsoft Access with Unicode, that one worked for me. It's on all of our servers by default upon installing CFMX. Access Coldfusion MX6.1 problems...sites keep dying
Thanks for the responses that have been posted with regard to this problem a few of us are experiencing.Just to recap for anyone new looking at this post that might be helpful I have a windows 200 server running CFMX 6.1 that keeps crashing - the sites running an access database are unable to get a connection to their db's (Error Executing Database Query.Timed out trying to establish connection The specific sequence of files included or processed is:) other sites running SQL Server continue on fine, we even have a site or 2 built in ASP that use access databases and they continue to work perfectly. The only way to rescue the server seems to be a full restart. I've tried changing over a few of my sites to use the access unicode driver but i suspect that without changing them all i may not see any dramatic improvement - the server is still crashing pretty regularly. We ran the server via the command prompt so that the output to be piped to a text file for analysis, the following is the message it gives right before the server needs to be restarted. # # HotSpot Virtual Machine Error, Internal Error # Please report this error at # http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.4.2-b28 mixed mode) # # Error ID: 53414645504F494E540E4350500159 # # Problematic Thread: prio=5 tid=0x3841e410 nid=0xfdc runnable # Heap at VM Abort: Heap PSYoungGen total 43264K, used 28288K [0x1001, 0x138f, 0x138f) eden space 28288K, 100% used [0x1001,0x11bb,0x11bb) from space 14976K, 0% used [0x12a5,0x12a5,0x138f) to space 14976K, 0% used [0x11bb,0x11bb,0x12a5) PSOldGen total 466048K, used 466048K [0x138f, 0x3001, 0x3001) object space 466048K, 100% used [0x138f,0x3001,0x3001) PSPermGen total 30720K, used 30600K [0x3001, 0x31e1, 0x3801) object space 30720K, 99% used [0x3001,0x31df2150,0x31e1) We've reported it as instructed but I was hoping that someone might be able to shed some light on this from a Coldfusion perspective rather than just the JVM. Is it crucial to run with MSAccess? It was never really designed for this use and is more suited to the desktop environment. MSSQL Server would be easy to upgrade to or if on a tight budget MySQL. Re: Access Coldfusion MX6.1 problems...sites keep dying
My companies live hosting server was recently upgraded to Coldfusion MX6.1 .. and the latest MDAC / Jet Drivers have been updated also. The problem is that all coldfusion sites on the server using access db's stop working every 2 days or so (more often if traffic is high).. the only way to get it running again is to restart the whole server. We certainly have this problem too, I just don't know the solution. Does anyone else? Nick [Todays Threads] [This Message] [Subscription] [Fast Unsubscribe] [User Settings]
Re: Access Coldfusion MX6.1 problems...sites keep dying
We are experiencing this problem also. I have tried the hotfixes on Macromedia's site, which do not really apply to MS Access but it couldn't hurt. We have an application that requires a large recordset to be returned (~1 records), CFQUERY caching helps somewhat but the problem exists whenever the cache is cleared. I think that Access just cannot handle the load, the ODBC Server hangs first, then CFMX Server. When I notice the spiking, I restart CFMX Server first, then the ODBC Server and finally the ODBC Client in that order, that prevents me from rebooting the entire server. Nothing I have tried has really helped other than employing my own caching strategy using Application variables, but the dataset is so large that Access chokes. I will be moving the app over to MySQL pretty soon but I was holding out for MySQL 4.1 to be released in full before I do so because we have some queries with subqueries that cannot be rewritten. This seems to have done the trick for the time being. It is too early to really tell if it has cured all my woes but my preliminary tests have been successful and the system isn't hanging as before with the exact same tests. The speed has improved significantly as well! Thanks Johcem! For MS SQL Server, use the JDBC driver from Microsoft. Jochem, have you run into any issues with that? I've only started testing it. Have you compared it with the latest DataDirect Connect for JDBC version? But the most important thing from this thread appears to be that people need to stop using the JDBC-ODBC bridge (Type 1) and switch to a JDBC Type 3 or Type 4 driver. If you've got it set to maintain connections in the administrator, have you tried disabling that setting? If not, you might try that for a few days, and see if the problem reoccurs.
