upgrade from 9 to 11 and use PATH_INFO in various places.. Is this a known
issue? Any ideas on how to remedy it?

"IF" being the operative word here. And you should know as well as I that
is usually not the case.
We have a person on this very list, who likes to tell us about her 15+
years experience in IT and security expertise, but her CF server was about
as insecure as can be, and her cfadmin was hackable in seconds.

No, there are no additional licensing fees to any components included
in CF Server.

One point in response to Russ: if you properly secure your server,
there really isn't a problem with "relying on the CFIDE folder". Of
course, it's not easy to properly secure your server, and if that's
the case for you, you should certainly follow Russ' advice. He's also
correct about the bundled version being out of date.

CKeditor is not included in CF11. CF8-11 includes FCKeditor, which is the
predecessor to CKeditor.

To answer question 3 in the context of FCKeditor, yes your updates to it
could potentially be overwritten by the updater.

Re: ckeditor in CF 11?

2015-01-16 Thread Russ Michaels

The problem with using the bundled version as it can easily become out of
date and you are relying on the CFIDE folder again, which is somehting best
avoided. There was a well known security hole in previous version which got
abused big time for upload files to ColdFusion servers.

it is much better to use a standalone version inside your site really,
which you can easily update and patch without breaking anything else.

ckeditor in CF 11?

2015-01-16 Thread Nick Gleason

Hi Folks,

I have a question about ckeditor. We use it in our CMS, but have not used
the version bundled with CF before.

I have a couple of questions that I am hoping folks here can answer:

1. Is ckeditor included in CF 11?

2. If so, have people had good experiences with it (we've used it for a
while - but not the CF bundled version - and have generally liked it)?

3. If the CF bundled version is customized / forked, are there then risks of
the forks being over-written in the context of an upgrade?

4. Are there licensing issues with the CF bundled version? In other words,
if you use the free version from cksource in a commercial product, there is
typically a license fee. If you use the CF bundled version in a commercial
product, is there still a licensing fee? Or is that waived in the context
of using CF server?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Best,

Nick

Re: CF 11 Admin Panel

2014-12-10 Thread Russ Michaels

the lockdown guide is not perfect and in my experience just following the
guide exactly does cause problems, so you do need to really know what you
are doing on the server with permissions to cover the bits it doesn't tell
you.

I do not follow it myself, I have my own process, so I cannot tell you
exactly where it fails. The best bet would be to test CF after each step
and see which one is buggering it up for you.

The bare minimum bits you MUST do is

   1. run CF under a separate user account which only has access to the
folders that CF needs access to. So CF itself, the folder where the
websites are store, OS temp folders, the temp folder of the user under
which CF is now running (windows only requires this I think)
   2. make sure the internal cf web server is not enabled
   3. lock down the cfadmin so that it is not publicly accessible from any
   website.
Personally I do this by using IP address restrictions so the entire
default website where cfadmin resides is only accessible via localhost and
   via our secure VPN.
   4. make a copy of the CFIDE with only the files that your site requires
and use this for the Vdir. Ideally you should avoid using any CF features
that require the CFIDE anyway, as they all pretty much suck and you will
not find many in the community who wont say the same. So this is any of the
UI tags, flash forms, CFFORM tags etc, there are better alternatives.
Avoiding the CFIDE will also most likely make your site Railo compatible
   too.
   5.

I think what Russ is getting at is that you can install individual IIS

As you have now stated that you did indeed not have these installed, simply
installing these features as suggested would have resolved your problem,
negating the need to re-install everything,.

Re: IIS not being recognized by CF 11 install

2014-09-17 Thread Gonzo Rock

Okay it's running now... I will detail what I did and the order I did it in
so that others can find this in the future.
CF11 connector install problems trouble failure
CF 11 connector install problems trouble failure

I took Dave's advice above and installed the web server that comes with
CF11 and it ended up on port 8500 by default as expected.

Next I successfully ran the coldfusion admin tool and goofed around with it
for a bit...indicating I had a good CF11 install

Next I ran wsconfig.exe as Administrator to connect to IIS... still no luck
as detailed above.

Next I completely removed the Web Server Role and Restarted the Windows
Server 2008 R2 machine.

Next I added Web Services back in...

The default install does not check off the Application Development boxes so
this time I chose ALL the Application Development options... with the
exception of Server Side Includes.

The last time I installed Web Services I only added in ASP, CGI, ISAPI
Extensions and ISAPI filters. I found that as the required list in my
google searching. This time I added in ASP.Net and .NET Extensibility to
the mix.

Success! Now the wsconfig.exe runs and gives me the choice of "Default Web
Site"

Now the cfadmin tool runs properly on port 80

Next I uninstalled CF11
Restarted the box
Installed CF11 without incident.
Ran the cfadmin tool without incident.

Thanks to everyone for pitching in!
And Russ... yes... spot on.
Never had an install go so badly before but customer is so glad it's
running.
Thank you again!

RE: IIS not being recognized by CF 11 install

2014-09-17 Thread Eric Roberts

I am sure someone has already suggested it, but have you created the jakarta
folder and pointed it to ColdFusion11\config\wsconfig\1? I have had
instances where this and the CFIDE folder weren't automatically created in
the default web root...

Actually, this doesn't indicate anything about the internal CF web server.
CF 11 supports web sockets, which are listening on a separate port (8577).

But, in general, I do recommend that people install CF using its own web
server, then manually run the web server configuration tool as needed to
connect to IIS or Apache. This helps differentiate between CF problems and
web server problems.

Also, once you've run the web server configuration tool, you should be able
to look at a separate set of log files just for that.

Finally, by default, once you run the web server configuration tool
successfully, the CF Administrator URL you listed should work regardless of
whether CFIDE is in the web root, or you've set up a virtual directory, etc.

There isn't that much to it, so I doubt it's your fault. An out-of-the-box
IIS install should work fine with CF 11.

My guess is that there's some sort of network port restriction in
place - a software firewall, perhaps - that's keeping wsconfig from
being able to see IIS.

There are more problems than just that, but environmental differences
haven't proven to be much of a problem for me over many projects and many
years. Writing code that is capable of running in many environments can
eliminate a very large percentage (not quite 100%) of issues.

My development environment has CF9, CF10, Railo 3.x, and Railo 4.x all
running on it. I only start the engine I need for the current project. Much
easier to just download and start the application server (Railo's model has
supported this for years) than it is to have to go through the installation
process each time.

After all the CF11 installation problems I've seen on the CF lists, this
news is what may actually make me finally download it.

One feature not on your list (and probably not important to you) is
interesting to me. You can install CF as an application instead of a
service. You could always run CF as an application once it's
installed, but now you can just unzip CF into a directory - no admin
rights needed - and run it as an application. You could do that before
with a little bit of tinkering, but CF 11 makes it a lot easier.

Your needs are almost surely different from ours...however...in case it's
helpful, my boss asked me to order these from "most important" (for us)
through "least important" (for us):

1. Security enhancements - Limit the attack surface by restricting default
remote access to the admin portal. Control access to resources by creating
multiple sandboxes across directories. Make your server more secure against
click-jacking and cross-site scripting using new functions to sanitize user
input.
2. New Client-side database integration - Work more productively by not
having to attach any callback handler when accessing databases. Now take
advantage of the powerful CFQUERY tag to access client-side databases
directly using SQL.
3. Language enhancements - Maintain and modify existing code faster and
more easily with member functions on ColdFusion objects. Leverage enhanced
JSON data conversion to identify the data types of JSON objects. Use the
new QueryExecute function to easily handle database queries from within
CFSCRIPT.
4. Tight integration with Adobe ColdFusion Builder - Enhance your
development experience with integrated server management and expanded
functionality through CFML extensions using ColdFusion Builder. Accelerate
the development of mobile applications using features such as device
detection, on-device debugging, multidevice inspection, and more.
5. Web services support - Publish and access web services with less code
using the revamped engine that supports the WSDL 2.0 specification, SOAP
1.2, and document literal wrapped style.
6. Dynamic and interactive HTML5 charting - Implement a large repository of
HTML5 charts using the built-in CFCHART tag. Easily create dynamic,
data-heavy charts with an all-new server-side charting engine. Show data in
a wide range of interactive formats with features such as zoom-in to help
consumers get a granular view of information.
7. Rich Ajax UI controls - Build more compelling and intuitive applications
with a broad set of Ajax controls via CFML tags and attributes. Easily bind
client-side Ajax applications to ColdFusion components on the server.
8. Improved Microsoft Office file interoperability - Leverage additional
functionalities, such as page break and auto filter, to manage spreadsheets
better. Generate PDF files from PowerPoint and Word files. Produce HTML or
SWF files from PowerPoint presentations. Take advantage of several
performance enhancements to work faster with Microsoft Office 2010 files.
9. New Full CFSCRIPT support - Work more productively with complete
scripting support for CFSCRIPT. Develop applications faster and more easily
by accessing every ColdFusion 11 functionality using CFSCRIPT.
10. New Custom tag framework for UI development - Extend the functionality
of ColdFusion by using the popular server-side custom tag framework on the
client side. Reuse and distribute UI components to speed up development and
reduce the testing effort.
11. New CFML-based mobile app development - Get a head start in the
fast-growing market for mobile apps. Leverage your existing CFML skills to
develop mobile apps and use built-in integration with Adobe PhoneGap Build
to easily and quickly deliver them as installed apps that run on iOS and
Android devices.
12. New On-device debugging - Use unique on-device debugging capabilities
to identify and fix errors in installed apps as well as browser-based
mobile applications. Remotely connect a mobile device to ColdFusion Builder
and simulate actual usage on the device by stepping through application
code.
13. New Multidevice inspection - Inspect the look and feel of both mobile
and web applications on multiple devices using the built-in Weinre server.
Modify the properties of elements using ColdFusion Builder, and see the
changes take effect in real time in the mobile app.
14. New Device detection - Easily identify the type of device, its
dimensions, group name, description, orientation, and features at runtime
without needing any plug-ins. Leverage this information to deliver
differentiated content for the device and enhance the user experience.
15. New Native device APIs - Use ColdFusion device APIs to easily integrate
device functionalities, such as working with contacts, handling files,
retrieving geo-location information, recording and playing back audio and
video files, and accessing camera features, accelerometer, and storage.
16. New Enhanced server-side access - Work more productively by directly
creating instances of ColdFusion components on mobile applications. Easily
access server-side logic without creating a proxy or passing complex URLs.
17. New HTML to PDF conversion - Use the improved conversion engine from
Adobe to generate superior quality PDF files from HTML pages. The engine
parses the CSS and applies its settings to ensure that the content in the
PDF file appears and f

CF 11 and signing PDFs - Anyone using this?

2014-06-18 Thread Stephen Hait

If so, how is it working for you?

We have been using Adobe's Echosign for this until now. We generate a PDF
with Coldfusion and then send it to Echosign which responds with an
e-signable PDF we present to the user on our site. With CF 11's announced
support for signable PDF files, we're wondering if there might be a way to
accomplish what we've been doing strictly with CF instead of relying of
Echosign for this.

I haven't been able to download CF 11 Developer Edition yet to check this
out. If anyone knows where I can find this, please let me know.

Regards,
Stephen
