Probably because the other applications you mentioned are client programs
that end-users will be using, so they would go into a normal program
directory. Since ColdFusion is a server application, it should have its own
directory off the root. This makes it easier to manage. Since previous
versions of CF were also off the root, it would probably cause considerable
confusion if they moved it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, as they say.

I have to ask one stupid question to MM.

With the MX suite of applications, why is it that everything else,
Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX go into the macromedia folder on the startup
menu. But CFMX has to have its own folder? Nit picking, yes... But it
would have made better sense to keep everything together, and not like
this!

Hi Dave,

I understand your good intentions, but you are violating the terms of

I was used to both MM and Allaire betas and I know it's hard to get used to
MM's rules and NDA for former Allaire's testers, so I just wanted to let you

RE: ColdFusion MX / Studio MX now available!

2002-05-30 Thread Vernon Viehe

It's a standalone application, but it's only sold as part of the Dreamweaver MX (Win)
purchase. It's not available for purchase separately.

Gosh, I don't know that I wanna open up that can of worms ;), but here goes, a large
chunk of CFStudio/HomeSite functionality has already been put in DWMX, and I
personally would expect to see more in the next version of DWMX.

It's a great time to check out Dreamweaver MX, and enjoy the HomeSite+ that comes with
it. After you've taken DWMX around the block a few times, let us know what features
you'd like to see in the next version. Undoubtedly, there will be suggestions to add
certain features from HomeSite+, and there will be totally new features suggested. We
want to know what features you want, so let us know:

I hope this info helps!

I thought HomeSite+ was going to be a part of Dreamweaver MX, not a
standalone application. Isn't that what everyone was complaining about?
So, is it a separate application altogether or not, and does Macromedia plan
to merge the two in the next version of Dreamweaver MX?

I had it when I was in the Kojak beta program and was able to download
Homesite+ separately. I can tell you that there is virtually no difference
between CF Studio and Homesite+ except that the CF template icon has changed
and the new VTMs are included. Period, that's it. If there were fixes made
under the hood (such as the amount of memory the program uses, etc), I'm not
aware of them and didn't notice any sort of performance difference on my

identical to CF Studio.

This is why I was pushing for a tag updater (which will be released free of

Did the release version change from what was available with the
DreamweaverMX beta? If not, then Homesite+ is actually a renamed version of
CF Studio 5, not Homesite 5 plus a few CF add-ons.

yeap,I had it installed during the dwmx beta, and it's identical to
CFStudio 5.0 I [[assume]] there are only minor bug fixes, but there is nothing
different in the appearance of it. Database tabsqlquery builder.

and still the bug when you create a folder via rds it saves you pages to that
folder constantly (dunno if that was fixed for the final.)

Hmm, that's comforting. Can you reassure us that this is NOT running CFMX?

I talked to Customer Service and they said it's a problem they're looking
into. Although she didn't say specifically, I got the impression from her
that nobody was getting through.

Thanks for checking into it.

Vernon,

Problem is, the link to retrieve your subscription upgrades is down.

http://dynamic.macromedia.com/bin/MM/software/reg/register.jsp?subs=true

You get a message that says: System Unavilable We apologize for the
inconvenience, the system is currently unavailable.

So you cannot get your subscription upgrade now. It's been like that since
yesterday afternoon when the email came out.

Here's the deal on subscriptions:

CF server subscription: CFMX is available for immediate download.

If you are registered with a current/valid subscritpion serial number, you
should have received an e-mail with instructions outlining how to d/l CFMX.
The e-mail contains a link and some instructions. When you go to d/l CFMX as
part of your subscription, you'll have an option for requesting a backup CD
and documentation at no charge.

If you have a current/valid subscription and did not receive this e-mail,
first, be sure you're registered at:
http://dynamic.macromedia.com/bin/MM/software/reg/register.jsp

Once registered, that will trigger the e-mail to you (not sure how long it
would take, but I would guess within a day or two).

If you find that you're already registered with your CF Server Subscription
number, and have not gotten this e-mail, please contact Customer Service,
and they'll get you squared away. Keep in mind, we're swamped due to
overwhelming response, but subscription issues do get a higher priority from
Customer Service. To contact Customer Service about subscriptions, use this
link:

CFStudio Subscription:

Same process as above, but there are a few kinks we're currently working
out. I anticipate this should all be resolved in the next day or so.

1.) The letter that went out erroneously instructed to use the CF Server
serial number at the supplied link, but you should use CFStudio serial
number.

2.) Currently, there's a couple glitches in the online subscription
fulfilment mechanism. Most importantly, the system is presenting the wrong
bits for d/l (CFServer instead of DWMX & Homesite+) Also, sometimes the
Studio serial number you're asked to enter isn't correctly recognized.

Once these issues are resolved and you can successfully fulfill your
subscription online, you'll also be given the option to receive a backup CD
and documentation at no charge.

These issues should be resolved shortly, so try again in a day or two. If
you're still having trouble getting DWMX & HS+ as part of your CFStudio
subscription, contact Customer Service and they'll quickly help:

I hope this helps!

RE: ColdFusion MX / Studio MX now available!

2002-05-30 Thread Vernon Viehe

OK, here's the info on DWMX & HS+:

HomeSite+ comes with all purchases of Dreamweaver MX for Windows.

It's on the CD, and if you buy online via download, it's included in the purchase, but
it's a separate download, there is a link for it.

HomeSite+ is not in the trial download of Dreamweaver MX.

CFStudio Subscription:

Same process as above, but there are a few kinks we're currently working out. I
anticipate this should all be resolved in the next day or so.

1.) The letter that went out erroneously instructed to use the CF Server serial number

2.) Currently, there's a couple glitches in the online subscription fulfilment
mechanism. Most importantly, the system is presenting the wrong bits for d/l (CFServer
instead of DWMX & Homesite+) Also, sometimes the Studio serial number you're asked to
enter isn't correctly recognized.

Once these issues are resolved and you can successfully fulfill your subscription
online, you'll also be given the option to receive a backup CD and documentation at no
charge.

Not in the eval.

When I purchase Studio MX this morning (before the rush... before the

Only included on the DWMX CD, I hear. They sure are keeping it tightly
under wraps--and I'm assuming that's not because they're saving it as a
surprise.

Oh, the final has bugs too, don't worry. Try this:

Enable "smart move" in your mouse settings (that's when the cursor snaps to a
newly-focused default button).
Open up an HTML doc in default "coder view". Click inside the HEAD tag, on TITLE or a
META tag. Watch the cursor jump to the Properties panel at the bottom. If I turn off
the Properties panel, the cursor jumps to my Windows taskbar instead. There's no way
to actually edit anything inside the head tags.

W2K sp2, latest Logitech mouse driver.

And yes, I did report about this in the preview release. Waste of time?

Also I'm wondering where Homesite+ is... wasn't it supposed to have been included
with DWMX? Or is it now a separate product?

Cheers,
-Max

In our experience there's always been a lag time between official release of
the product and distribution of the product to subscribers. If I recall
correctly you'll be contacted by Macromedia when they're available (make
sure you registered your product so you're on their list).

Hi Jon,
Subscription holders will not be sent cd's. Within the next week or so you should be
receiving an e-mail with your subscription information and a link to an area on our
site where you can request a cd. If you don't receive an e-mail about this within the
next week or so then please contact Customer Service here:

For now you can download the trial here:
