Check out http://www.burmees.nl/menu/menus.htm. These DHTML menus appear to work across frames. I believe you will encounter the same problem in all versions of the menu. I do not think it is possible to script a layer to cross the frame since it is essentially another document. Well, there'll be nothing (at the moment) that can be rendered partly out of it's own frame.
