How long to get new posts picked up by CFBloggers.org?
Ray added me to CFBloggers.org about 5 days ago. Since then I've made two new posts but neither of them have gotten picked up by the site. Do I need to do something specific or should it be automatic? I posted this on the 17th: http://www.andymatthews.net/read/2009/01/17/Locks-of-Love:-or-how-I-learned-to-let-go and this on the 19th (last night): http://www.andymatthews.net/read/2009/01/19/shrinkURL---API-wrapper-for-URL-shortening-services Is there someone who gets picked up on that site that could let me know if I need to update anything on my feed, or do I need to ping the service with each new post? ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:318202 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4

Check your feed for bad characters. The last time this happened to me I had a bad character, which prevented CFB from picking it up. I believe there is a 30 minute scheduler running that goes through all the feeds, though it could be a bit longer. You could also ping cfbloggers in my case: http://www.coldfusionbloggers.org/ping.cfm?burl=http://www.garyrgilbert.com/blog That will naturally force an immediate update of your site. Gary had the best idea, well, the second best idea. You do know you can contact me via the site, right? Or email me at r...@camdenfamily.com. Didn't take it that way at all. :) I just worry as I occasionally see posts here about my sites/products, and since I'm not on the list every day, I want to make sure folks know they can contact me. As it stands, my code is 100% perfect and bug free, so it's not like I have anything to worry about it anyway. Ray... As a curiousity, in BlogCFC, how do you manage pinging? What I mean is do you have to ping every aggregator? Is CFBloggers built in? What about Full as a Goog? Feedburner, etc? Re: How long to get new posts picked up by CFBloggers.org?
Pinging is done via a set of URLs, with a few shortcuts. If you put @technorati as a url, it will ping technorati. Ditto for @weblogs and @icerocket. I built those in as I thought (back then) that they were common ones folks would want, AND they have special requirements. Any other URL is simply done with CFHTTP. One kinda cool trick is that in CF8, blockcfc will automatically do all of this via cfthread to make the ping quicker. RE: How long to get new posts picked up by CFBloggers.org?
V1 is the current site: www.andymatthews.net It's modeled on code from my family blog: www.andyandjaime.com Which in turn is code that I've been tweaking for about 5 years now. I've been planning on rewriting the whole thing to use best practices, more efficient memory use, more use of JavaScript (and jQuery), and more. When I started building www.andymatthews.net I wanted to do a one for one with my family blog so that it would be as comparable as possible. That way I can base my progress off how much has changed between the two. andy -Original Message- From: Rick Faircloth [mailto:r...@whitestonemedia.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2009 1:02 PM To: cf-talk Subject: RE: How long to get new posts picked up by CFBloggers.org? Very good... I'll be interested in following the development every day as I'm about to start down that path. I'll actually be developing two blog sites (just for personal use), but only one at the moment. I have a basic style for the interface started and I've got a database set up (I modeled it after BlogCFC's, just for MySQL 5). I'm very interested in every aspect of your venture. So...what's v1... (version 1?) Can I read about your work there? If so, what's the URL? Yes I am. My current blog is running on v1. It's mostly spaghetti code, not well formed, etc. Part of my goal is to document the rewriting process and blog about it WHILE I'm in the middle of the conversion. I started off as a designer so I've got a lot of good ideas on how to improve the interface and functionality. andy -Original Message- From: Rick Faircloth [mailto:r...@whitestonemedia.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2009 10:27 AM To: cf-talk Subject: RE: How long to get new posts picked up by CFBloggers.org? (Sorry to jump into this thread, but...) I just wanted to ask you, Andy, if you were blogging about your work on your blog software. I'm getting ready to do the same thing and would love to see how you're proceeding, what your considerations are, etc... So moving forward, should I be pinging CFBloggers after each blog post? I'm in the process of writing my own blog software so it's not built in like it might be with BlogCFC. andy -Original Message- From: gary gilbert [mailto:g...@garyrgilbert.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2009 7:35 AM To: cf-talk Subject: Re: How long to get new posts picked up by CFBloggers.org? I believe there is a 30 minute scheduler running that goes through all the feeds, though it could be a bit longer. You could also ping cfbloggers in my case: http://www.coldfusionbloggers.org/ping.cfm?burl=http://www.garyrgilb er t.com/ blog That will naturally force an immediate update of your site.
