OT: FTP server

2006-02-17 Thread Mike Klostermeyer
Can anyone recommend an FTP server for Windows 2003? The easier to manage
users/permissions the better (which is why we are trying to stay away from
IIS). Ideally it should be able to run as a service, and also be able to
listen to two ports, either within the same service or separate services.

Thanks.

Search download.com for WARftp

We use it and it is really solid, pretty easy to use and very stable.

Serv-U. Head and shoulders above anything else I've ever used. Get
the secure version and you can do ssl-only ftp, which is a nice
security bump. Same with the MD5 hashing of the password xmit, but I
think the basic product does that.

We've been using Serv-U FTP server (comes free with crystaltech hosting)
with relative success... I've tried FileZilla in the past, but though it was
buggy, since my connection from homesite kept dropping. But the same thing
has been happening with Serv-U, so it's probably a router issue or
something...

Why are you looking for support? It's an ftp server...

I second Filezilla.

Support: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/forum/

Plenty of it, if you need it. The server support forum looks pretty active.

I use filezilla server on several of our servers. I like it a lot
better than IIS (especially since it supports secure FTP) and I don't
want my FTP users to be Windows users.

Search for War FTP. It's made by this eccentric coder and is totally free.
It's very secure and very stable. The only catch is that is will not allow
itself to be used on any .gov or .mil sites.
