I purchased a server with Linux NetMax installed for my firewall. I'm playing with it now before I take it to the Co-Lo facility. Says it has a traffic monitor that I can monitor traffic to the network by machine and URL. That's cool. :) Bud Schneehagen - Tropical Web Creations _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ ColdFusion Solutions / eCommerce Development [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.twcreations.com/ 954.721.3452 -- Archives: http://www.eGroups.com/list/cf-talk To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists&body=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.
Re: OT? Tracking bandwidth usage.
On a shared server the only way to do this is to monitor the logs. If you also have FTP server(s) to monitor then you'll need to do the FTP logs as well. Statistics server will give you web server totals for the domains, but like you say, you need to go into each one individually and find the bandwidth usage. I've corresponded with Media House asking for a machine-wide site by site summary report for exactly this purpose. Maybe if another hosting provider did the same they'd start to take notice. You could create a simple log analyzer in CF, but when those logs get large, it tends to bog down. A better language to use would be Perl. One thing to be certain of is that you're logging all traffic - graphics files, html, everything. RE: OT? Tracking bandwidth usage.
Use a managed hub with SNMP and something like mrtg (http://mrtg.hdl.com) to monitor the circuit. For individual domains look at something that will parse log files to separate out the traffic. Some of the larger ISPS have specialized SQL logging to facilitate tracking and monitoring and even billing on a per domain basis. - Steve -Original Message- From: Bud [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, March 28, 2000 10:41 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: OT? I'm looking for suggestions on how to track bandwidth monthly for individual domains, and on the server as a whole. Short of going in and looking at each and every stats package every month. OT? Tracking bandwidth usage.
Howdy all. Got my server up and running. CF 4.01, WebSite Pro and Statistics Server 5. I'm looking for suggestions on how to track bandwidth monthly for individual domains, and on the server as a whole. Short of going in and looking at each and every stats package every month. That's also not going to give me ftp bandwidth, etc. used, which I'm not worried about tracking on a per domain basis, but would like to know what I'm using up for the whole server total. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Of course, if there's a way to do it with CF, that would be even better because that would put this posting on topic. :) Thanks.
