Re: TS6079: ColdFusion Developers - Great Opportunity - long term Contract

2012-04-30 Thread RobG

If this is the place I think it is (Mayo Clinic), a few tidbits for
anybody who might be interested. I interviewed with them two years ago
and was accepted for the job. I was two days from leaving to drive up
there when the agency (not hers -- a different agency) told me that
there was no on-site parking, you had to park at the Walmart at the
north end of town and take a half-hour shuttle ride to work... then to
add to that, they wanted everybody to wear a tie. I ended up turning
the job down because I wasn't willing to add another hour of commute to
my day, and I sure as hell wasn't wearing a tie.

Just an FYI.

Re: Florida Coldfusion Opportunity

2012-01-06 Thread Phillip Vector

I contacted this recruiter and no relocation assistance (either them
paying or taking it out of your first check) is provided except for
airfare to the interview IF they hire you. If they don't, then you are
on the hook for it.

So while I realize TEK systems is a recruiter and not the client, I
don't think that it's feasible to apply to this position unless you
live right there (and knowing Florida the way I do, no one lives RIGHT
there.) :)

CF Job Opportunity

2010-06-16 Thread Webmaster

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Hopefully I'm posting this on the right
list--apologies if it's out of place here.

My organization is looking to hire a ColdFusion/SQL developer. The job is 70%
web/database development, and 30% other IT projects (servers, network, etc.).
If you're generally tech-savvy you should be fine with the other 30% part of
the job. We're a small company (6 employees) with great benefits, competitive
pay and an insanely generous 401(k) program.

We're located in Northern Virginia (Manassas). This is an in person job, no
telecommuting is available.

If you're interested, send me your resume at ri...@ion.org

Thanks!
Rick

Re: CF opportunity in RTP, NC--long term contract

2008-11-05 Thread Phillip M. Vector
Actually, you are posting on CF-Jobs-Talk. That's for discussion about
jobs and the job market. CF-Jobs would be a better pick of where to post
(more people looking there as well).

We (by we, I mean me and by my perception, I think most everyone else
agrees) don't MIND it being posted here (as long as it overposted), but
if you keep doing it wrong, you may upset some people. :)

As a side note, you may want to explain what RTP is as this is a
national (international?) list. Also, I'm presuming telecommuting is not
an option (Why I have no idea, but to each their own). You may want to
make it clear in future posts if it is an option or not.

 Philip,

Whereas cf-jobs-talk@houseoffusion.com is the cf-jobs-talk address,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the jobs list.

 Telecommuting is not an option, you are correct.

Mind if I ask why? Several qualified people are around to service a
companies needs, but with the economy the way it is, you might not find
someone willing to move out to where the job is. I know me personally, I
moved to Las Vegas for a great job, but office politics got in the way
(my own boss didn't want to let me go) and after 2 months, I was let go
with nothing except a year lease that I had got and just managed to
furnish said apartment (Craigslist was a godsend to clear it all out).

Is managing people in person that important that you will only take from
a small pool of qualified applicants (who no doubt know they are in
demand by you, so they inflate the prices or you pick up someone who is
just starting to learn on the cheap and fix the issues as their mistakes
crop up)?

Telecommuting can be managed well and hopefully, you can find someone
who doesn't need much management. It also means you don't have to use up
space/equipment/etc. for them being there or relocate them.

Just pointing out some things that have been discussed on this list. You
may want to consider them and if you have the authority, try to get the
office environment more earth friendly (less gas to and from work).

 You've been very helpful and I greatly appreciate it.

No worries. That's why this is here. :)

Thanks for the defence Levi. The reality is my tweet earlier about not being
happy do to company direction probably already tipped some folks off ;) It's
really my fault as I didn't note this was to cf-jobs-talk. cf-jobs reply is
different (to the emailer not the list). I just didn't notice it. As for a
public resume. It's not linked anywhere public, or at least it wasn't until
not. Besides I am ok with everyone looking at it, I'm proud of my
accomplishments anyone that wants to see it is fine by me. My life is an
open book, mostly ;)

 I'd think more highly of someone who mentioned they were playing about
with
 Centuar. Although if they said they were playing about with CF9 I'd be
 equally impressed, so that's a bad example but you get my point.

It's pretty obvious this was a goof on Adam's part by just hitting reply rather
than copying in the original sender's email address. This happens to everyone
and there's no reason to call attention to it - I'm sure Adam is already
embarrassed and perhaps a little concerned that his current employer might see

Just my $0.02 cents.

Aaron,

The problem begins when you try to find a job while still on a job.
If your boss finds out that you are indeed on the look out for a new
opportunity then it may sparkle misunderstandings and misconceptions. I
had a friend once that did really well on his project and he had gotten
bonuses and all the good stuff. The contract was at its final stage and
he needed to make more money because his wife was pregnant with twins.
It so happens that he sent an e-mail to a mailing list of which his boss
was also a subscriber. The e-mail had information about his skills, a
link for his resume and that he was looking for a new opportunity to
make more money. His resume was open to the public.. His boss called him
5 minutes after he sent that e-mail and cursed him to death saying that
it was unethical to say that my friend was not well paid after all the
bonuses and everything. It sparkled so much trouble that he got out of
the company.
Indeed, my friend had done his job well. The project had been 95%
delivered and he was looking for a better opportunity. With his wife
pregnant, it was a perfect time to look for a new chance to make more
money. Instead, because of a misunderstanding with having his public
resume open to the public, he ended in a bad situation. His boss later
told him that it will be harder to find programmers because people may
think that he does not pay well. Whih in part, is true.

Just my $0.02 cents,
Ravi.

Yeah but your friend was hunting for a job and pushing/leading people
towards a resume and him. My question was more towards people who just have
their resumes sitting out there on their personal sites and in a completely
unprotected manner. I would guess that 90% of the blogs I randomly go to
that the owners of those also have their resume sitting on the same sites.
 Would also guess probably 90% of the people I have worked with in this
industry have their resumes on their personal websites.

Hi Scott, I realize this may be a longshot, but I'm looking for a ColdFusion
Developer and they're a tough breed to find!  Here's the scoop...I'm a
technology Recruiter and have an opening at a Fortune 500 company in NYC,
and they're looking for a ColdFusion Developer, preferably someone with
ColdFusion/Oracle experience, but that seems to be tough to find, so someone
with ColdFusion/SQL would be nice.

Anyway, if you know anyone from your previous positions, or just know
someone!, that may be interested, I would love to speak with them. The job
is in NYC and unfortunately they don't relo, so someone who's either looking
to move here or lives in NY/NJ/CT would probably be the best fit.

If I place someone that you put me in touch with, you'll receive a referral
fee from me!

Thanks for all your help.

Re: DEVELOPER NEEDED: Part-Time Project Work; 100% Telecommute Opportunity

2006-08-10 Thread Pete Ruckelshaus
I think if most of us who've been around the block more than once sat
down and wrote a list of those technology/development things that we
were comfortable with, the list would be just as broad as the
required skills list6ings found in a number of job postings. For
instance, the list of things that I don't feel completely incompetent
about would include:

* Photoshop Illustrator, design, image creation and manipulation
* HTML/CSS
* DHTML/JavaScript/AJAX
* CF 3 through MX7
* MSSQL, MYSQL, Oracle
* Windows Server administration and performance tuning
* Project management
* People management
* Documentation
* Copy writing  editing

This is not a complete list, and it is just meant to illustrate the
point I am trying to make. I am comfortable doing any of those things
because I have done all of them (and more) in the course of my regular
duties, but my primary competencies lie in CF development.

I am of a mind that if you're (and I mean that in a general you, not
targeting any specific individual) threatened by the listing of
skills listed in a job posting, it's probably because in some way you
(again generic you) know you don't measure up for that specific job.

Just something to think about,

Pete

 I really like 2 things about this post...

 1) ColdFusion MX 7+ Umm... 7 plus what? Is there a ColdFusion 8 out there
 that I'm not aware of?

 2) If you use tables to design websites, you need not apply. I seriously
 wonder why some recruiters are against tables. They work. Hell, they have
 it on their homepage themselves. :)

 Even if I were qualified for the position I wouldn't waste my time with a
 company with such a snobby, patronizing, better than everyone else
 attitude. And with all the skills and experience you're demanding, you're
 probably not paying even close to what the job is worth, companies like you
 never do.

Accessible Computing, Inc., a leader in web accessibility and usability, is
seeking a ColdFusion developer for part time telecommuting work. We are
looking to form a long-term relationship with the right candidate.

The ideal candidate is an experienced ColdFusion developer who can
 hand-code
XHTML and CSS without using a WYSIWYG editor. (If you use tables to design
websites, you need not apply.)

Requirements:
* ColdFusion MX 7+
* Model Glue
* Reactor
* ColdSpring
* Object-Oriented Development
* MySQL or SQL Server 2000 / 2005
* XHTML
* CSS
* JavaScript
* Accessibility
* WCAG - (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)
* Section 508 Standards
* Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
* Ability to Work Unsupervised from Your Home Office (100% Telecommute)

Nice-To-Haves:
* XML
* XSL
* Subversion
* Trac

Compensation:
* Depending on Experience

Miscellaneous:
* Portfolio of Relevant Work Required
* References Required
* No Sponsors
* No Agencies

If interested, please submit a cover letter, resume, portfolio and
compensation requirements to jobs [at] accessiblecomputing.com.

NOTE: If you do not meet ALL of the above requirements, please do not
respond to this job posting. (Seriously, don't waste our time!)

Thanks!

Hello All:

Thank you for the lively discussion about our job posting today!

To all those who childishly flamed our post on the incorrect list, we salute
you! Way to waste bandwidth! We're so impressed with your skills that we
politely request that you NEVER apply for a position with our company.
Thanks.

To all those who clearly understood the points we were trying to get across,
and the importance of those points, we humbly bow to you. We commend you
for trying to help out your fellow man, however futile it may be.

The bottom line is we received several high-quality candidates from some of
the biggest names in the ColdFusion community. All were well-qualified and
understood the importance of the high standards we hold them to. We were
very pleased with the results from the CF-Talk list. (Thanks, Michael!)

Thanks Again!

I think the post brought up valid points to be discussed. If some one were

those not doing the hiring. Next will people not get hired because they post

Christian got his resumes, and I hope he finds his developer. I can't speak

Oh grow up. I can't believe someone actually flamed a job posting on
CF-Jobs. What an idiot (that goes for anyone else who backed up his moronic
opinion). Don't hound potential employers just because you aren't qualified

Before all the ranting, I would have easily said that at least 80% of the
list was qualified for the position. I was obviously WAAAY high on that
estimate. I'm definitely going to raise my rates if you guys are my

one thing though - I've seen MUCH WORSE (read MUCH MORE UNREALISTIC)
lists of job skills. This list seemed fairly focused and consistent to
me. Hell, I've got a lot of expertise with every single thing on their
required and nice to have list. This unlike many of the job
descriptions out there that simply read something like this:

Required Skill - Expert (10+ years) in all of the following:
ColdFusion, Java, .NET, C#, Assembly, Unix, Windows, Assembly, C++,
Oracle, SQL Server

Now THAT, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a ridiculous list of skills to post.
I didn't think there was anything wrong with the skills for this
posting, though a little more description about the job would have
helped to understand which of the skills had higher priority for the
tasks that the candidate would be required to perform.

   I think that is a fantastic response from the companies perspective.

   The initial post didn't seem snobby to me, but I was unclear if they were
 looking for a website designer or a website programmer. I don't know of
 anyone who excels at both.
   I don't use CSS to build web sites; I try to use designers to build
 websites, wherever possible.

Yeah - kinda an odd post to select for abuse. Maybe they just have a
serious case of the Mondays...

Peter Gibbons: Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday,
and you're not feelin' real well, does anyone ever say to you, 'Sounds
like someone has a case of the Mondays'?
Lawrence: No. No, man. Shit, no, man. I believe you'd get your ass
kicked sayin' something like that, man.

Seriously though - This list is archived, and Christian is not the
only potential employer reading it. I'd be aware of that when posting
to the list.

Re: Job Flames (Re: DEVELOPER NEEDED: Part-Time Project Work; 100% Telecommute Opportunity)

2006-08-07 Thread Judith Dinowitz
It's not the message.

It's the way you say it.

Does this list of skillsets seem realistic? is a fair question, which
should be asked without selecting one particular job post or one particular
person. The last thing you should do is alienate a potential employer (or
contact) who could help you later on, no matter what you think of his list.

To say: You're _fill-in-the-blank_ because of this list puts a value
judgement on the list poster, which causes negative feelings and doesn't
really get your message across.

That's my two cents.

I think discussion would be better served by example, and not by pointing
fingers.

Now can we get to a discussion that's more relevant for this list (or couch
it in a way that's less negative)?

Judith

OT : COMDEX Opportunity

2003-10-10 Thread Scott Ashman
We've recently been given the opportunity to send a representative to COMDEX to act as an expert at the innovation center.Everything is covered except for our travel, food and hotel expenses.It seems like a great deal, however it sounds like a couple other companies passed on the offer before it made it to us -- which worries me.Does anyone have any experience with presenting or attending COMDEX?I'm looking for some pitfalls, as it sounds like too good of a deal to pass up.

Our responsibilities upon attending --

1. We ask that a single representative come in Sunday the 16th to go over logistics with our team.
2. Your company will be responsible for manning a kiosk, and having another employee for presentations
3. Your company will be handling 2 presentations a day - these presentations will not overlap.
a. One presentation will be informal to a small group no more then 15 people about a general topic.
b. One presentation will be formal to a large group up to 40 via power point about a business case/success story

Thanks in advance!

OT: CF opportunity in NYC

2003-03-31 Thread Ciliotta, Mario
Hi,

I know this is not the place but I figured I would just mention that I place a posting
on CF-Jobs for a opportunity in New York if anyone is interested. Just not sure if
everyone on this list is also on the CF-Jobs list.

Thanks

Mario

Is this an opportunity for regular expressions?

2000-07-19 Thread Deanna L. Schneider

Hi Folks,
I have a dynamic voting application. The positions and locations open can
change, so I want it to be fully dynamic when the form is built and when the
data is inserted into the database. So, I can get the output onto the form
no prob. These are some examples of form fields and values that are passed
then:
POSID2LOCID1=2
POSID2LOCID2=3
POSID5LOCID1=11
POSID4LOCID2=8
POSID2LOCID3=4
POSID4LOCID3=9
POSID3LOCID4=5
POSID3LOCID5=6
POSID1LOCID7=1
POSID3LOCID6=7

What I want to be able to do is loop through all the passed form fields,
parse out the posid number (insert it in the posid field in the db), parse
out the locid number (insert it in the locid field in the db) and insert the
value in the canid field. Seems like I should be able to do this with
regular expressions, the logic being something like:
Insert into posid value (take everything out of the field name but the
number associated with the posid). Yes, I've thought of removechar(), but I
won't actually know how many digits the number is.

So, since I've never used regular expressions, anyone want to help me out?

Thanks

Sorry, I shouldn't say this, but anyone with real Spectra experience is
going to run from this one. I have no personal experience, thank-you, but
when I hear good developers moan about all Spectra's flaws... Nuff Said...

If your a Spectra guru reading this... Oops, didn't mean to step on your

#1, Where?
#2, Permanent or Contract?
#3, You'd turn down a developer with years of experience because they didn't
take Allaire's advanced course? Some of us were well into the advanced level
before that course existed, and see no point in filling Allaire's coffers
just to say we've been there.

ROFL!! What a lot of cynical people!

Someone offers the chance of a lifetime (at least that's what we're
apparently supposed to think) and everyone's reaction is "oh ya.. well
show me the fine print!"

Methinks there's been a hellouvalot of learning from bitter experience on
this list.
