Hi, all.

I'm really trying to figure out the Flash MX - CF paradigm,
but am struggling. None of the training materials seem to be
on target.

I was wondering if there's a Flash MX - CF mailing list like this one
for beginning ActionScript / Intermediate CF programmers?

Perhaps I can pick more of what I need there...

Thanks,

Rick

2002-09-27 Thread Turetsky, Seth

Rick,
Some of the boards there are specifically for MX related posts. As for the rest of
the site, not sure.
Tutorial-wise, stick with MX ones first, especially for CF/Flash integration stuff.
But tutorials can be
limiting if you aren't that well-versed in the topic. Using boards, mailing lists,
books, etc can never hurt.

Re: A Flash MX - Cold Fusion Mailing List?

2002-09-27 Thread Brad Lowry

I can personally recommend this book.

The Reality aspect is really helpful. It is only a little bit cloying
in the way the team decides, Hmmm... maybe we should use Flash MX and
ColdFusion MX together, there are so many great advantages to that
decision! But the decision points are indeed apt nonetheless.

It is great for neophyte me, because as I slog through the big Forta CF
Application Kit book and all the feature detail and the step by step
revealing of the next relevant feature, this book lets me skim over the
smaller detail that I haven't learned yet, while still being able to see
the sophisticated payoff if I stick with it.

It is also great in that after getting the big picture from a read
through, you can take a second trip through and parallel their recipe
and refer to the big manual when you hit a topic that you skimmed over
on the first pass.

Personally it has allowed me to modify only slightly the Expense
Reporting section and actually develop something my boss wants as I
learn.

Sounds like from your post that you, Rick, will find the CF part pretty
straightforward and need an additional Flash resource to refer to, since
the intro to the Reality Series states plainly that there is no
attempt to be exhaustive about teaching each step.

Amazon, BTW, bundled the App Kit and Reality books together.

Since it is indeed hot off the press and the first edition, the typos
are replete. However, I for one am happier having it sooner and
imperfect.

Thanks for the insight, Brad.

I'll definitely give that combination a look.

I just wish my trial period with Flash MX had more

were going to be the deciding factor in deciding
whether or not to go the trouble and expense of
delving into Flash App development...

but am struggling. None of the training materials seem to be
 on target.

I was wondering if there's a Flash MX - CF mailing list like this one
for beginning ActionScript / Intermediate CF programmers?

Perhaps I can pick more of what I need there...

 Thanks,

 Rick

RE: A Flash MX - Cold Fusion Mailing List?

2002-09-27 Thread Dave Watts

Fig Leaf's Inside Flash book was also a nice reference. I
won a copy at DevCon last year. It's not MX though and
strangely it's not even listed on their web site. Dave,
any word on a Fig Leaf series of MX books?

Inside Flash MX has been out for about a month, I think. So far, people
seem to like it, and I think it's great, of course:
