Isn't PHP Nuke sorta like that? or Horde (also PHP)?

That's been a long-term goal / hope for the onTap framework for a long
while, but of course hasn't happened yet... but at least there's a
common security model for those sub-apps in the Members onTap plugin.
I did write a blog -- which could probably use a little more cleaning up
-- though I haven't put it on riaforge yet...

thing is Blogs onTap was originally intended to be a "sample application"
but it ended up being way too complex for that purpose because of things
in it that were unrelated to the framework, like I designed it to
support multiple blogs and to allow the blog authors to customize the
layout of their blogs via the admin section (which is neat and not part
of BlogCFC last I checked, but made the application pretty complicated).

I've been thinking about creating a Wiki now as a sample application
with the thinking that I could manage to avoid going too overboard with
that and it would actually work as a sample app. :) I guess that would
cover 2 out of 3 -- minus the forums. I probably couldn't build a forum
app without going overboard. :)

Re: CF forums

2007-12-19 Thread Mark Picker
Hi,

Thread seems to have gotten a bit sidetracked (but still funny).

I haven't used any of these products in a while, but it does seem like Galleon
also fits the bill.

Demo site:
http://www.coldfusionjedi.com/forums/

Would have to agree with Matt. Something the same as VBulletin would be nice
for CF. What I really want to see is an application that brings a lot of this
together (blogs, wikis, forums, common security model etc), similar to products
like Microsoft Community Server.

I was looking at writing something to bring some of Ray Camden's products
together, but they are all written very differently (e.g. Canvas uses
ColdSpring, whereas BlogCFC doesn't rely on any other frameworks etc).

Have a good Christmas everyone.

Cheers
Mark

FuseForum, on the other hand, *is* written with Fusebox.

RE: CF forums

2007-12-17 Thread Dustin M. Snell
Wow, that seems like a terrible reason to dismiss a great product.

We don't use Fusetalk because Adobe does, as a matter of fact we were using
it before they started. We did an evaluation of all the solutions out there
and found Fusetalk to be the best. And now 3 years later, I can say it has
worked out quite well.

To answer your questions:

1) Which is closest to PHP_BB? Not sure but all the major things seem to be
there (avatars, signatures, logon integration, rich text, code attach etc)

2) Are they both free? Fusetalk is not free but not overpriced either. See
www.fusetalk.com for details.

3) What database is behind them? Any Database that CF supports works. We use
MS SQL 2000 atm.

4) How's the ease of install/configuration (how many hours for a
knowledgeable CFer)? Up and running in no time, 3-5 hours depending on how
closely you want it to integrate with your existing site.

5) Anything else CONSTRUCTIVE you may have to add ;-) Great support.
Regular updates. I hear version 4 is going to be out in 2008 and be even
better.

Just my opinion FWIW.

makes it worth it to add a PHP server to your mix.

RE: CF forums

2007-12-17 Thread Jake Churchill
I believe the other major player was called Galleon.

1) I use CFBB and it seems very close to PHP_BB
2) It is free
3) MSSQL for backend but if I remember it allows for mysql
4) I do the install/config in about an hour or less but I use the default
skins and don't set up forums or anything. I leave that to my customers.
5) no

Hey All,

I finally have a need for a CF forum (had to happen after 9 years) ;-)

The only one I can recall seeing is CF_BB, but I know there are 2 major
players.

S.

1) Which is closest to PHP_BB?

2) Are they both free?

3) What database is behind them?

4) How's the ease of install/configuration (how many hours for a
knowledgeable CFer)?

5) Anything else CONSTRUCTIVE you may have to add ;-)

TIA

Re: CF forums

2007-12-17 Thread Yves Arsenault
Hi Bryan,

Galleon (Ray Camden)
http://galleon.riaforge.org/

CFMBB (Rick Root)
http://cfmbb.riaforge.org/index.cfm

I've used both...

I believe they both work with MS SQL and MySQL... seems to me one or both
may with PostgreSQL I think they might with MS Access as well...
;-)

There is also :
FuseForum (Kevin Roche)
http://fuseforum.riaforge.org/

I've never used FuseForum.

I set up an alternate download at http://spike.oli.tudelft.nl/forumspot/
It is not complete, but it should be sufficient to get a Windows version
of the forums running.

Bizarre - either the site has been blown away, or they have a configuration
issue (the site that comes up is the hoster)

RE: CF Forums - Weirdness

Yes

> If so did you know that there is a forum for it at www.forumspot.org

Yeah I know but I thought I'd post the question here too becuase the support
forum isn't the fastest place in the world to get answers.

> If you dont know about it its opensource.

No, really?

> You can download it from the above address also.

I have, done the download, got the SQL database working, but the forums app
itself just doesn't work properly. Or at least not in any way that makes
sense to your average mortal.

> There are a few errors in the files such as attachments etc.
> Most of the info is on the site above.

Yeah, I know but what's not there is an explanation as to why the app works
in such a dumb way. I mean if someone registers on the site and user
approval is forced then it SHOULD correctly put that user in the list of
those requiring approval WITHOUT forcing that user to login first. As it
is, unless the user registers then unsuccessfully tries to login, the admin
doesn't know that they require approval.

Dalai,
Is it the free forum from allaire that you mean by CF Forums
If so did you know that there is a forum for it at www.forumspot.org
If you dont know about it its opensource.
You can download it from the above address also.
There are a few errors in the files such as attachments etc.
Most of the info is on the site above.

Ok, we've just set up forums on our system and it's behaving in a rather
odd
way, perhaps one of you lot has seen this before and knows a
workaround.

Ok, the way it's working is this:

1. User goes to conference
2. User is allowed in but with no rights to post or reply
3. User wants to post so they click the login/logout button
4. User Registers
5. User confirms password
6. User waits for approval.

Now, here's the problem, unless the user logs in unsuccessfully straight
after registration their username won't show up in the list of users
requiring approval that the admin sees...

I've tested it and even tried modifying the code but I managed to kill
the
server in the process :-/

Can anyone help???

Or possibly recommend another open source threaded discussion app for
CF
This is starting to drive me a little potty so if anyone wants to help
rescue my sanity, please feel free!!

best wishes,
