Re: CF version of JIRA?

2015-03-23 Thread Roger Austin

It is usually good advice to not reinvent the wheel, but there is a
place for new projects. Sometimes you want to roll your own ticket
system and I have done that for a variety of reasons such as flexibility
or integrating with a code base. It really depends on how complex of a
system you need and what sorts of systems you want to connect to it.

If it's just issue tracking you are after and not so much project
management, Jira is really overkill and IMHO overly complex to setup and
manage anyhow.

PivotalTracker might be something to look at if you are looking for
something similar in the project management arenas. It is geared towards
Agile, but could be used for more traditional PM.

If just issue tracking is the goal, Trac or Redmine would be a good simple
ways to go.

Trello is a pretty awesome free organization tool that may be of interest
as well. Plus the mobile app for it works really well.

Re: CF version of JIRA?

2015-03-23 Thread Andrew Scott

Jira is a very big and full featured Enterprise ticketing system, I am sure
it is $10 and not $20 for 10 users and was introduced a few years ago to
help get smaller teams get into Jira and other products. The whole $10 goes
directly to a charity, don't recall it off the top of my head, so Atlassian
doesn't even make money of these community versions.

If you feel inclined you're more than welcome to try and reinvent the wheel
and try your hand at your own version. People should realise that CF is
good for what it does and it's a shame tools like this don't exist, but not
everything needs to be written in CF, especially when there are already
good tools out there that do a far better job than you can ever try to
compete with.

You will be hard pushed to find anything written in cf, all these days, all
the half decent apps were abandoned years ago and no longer supported our
the site is long dead.
Best place to look is cf411.com or cfseaech.com

I did it once a while back using session variables to set the location I
wanted at any given time. I wasn't thrilled with the solution, but it
worked. Here is a link to an old blog post I did that covered the necessary
changes: http://www.remotesynthesis.com/blog/index.cfm/2005/2/17/FCKEditor -
note that this is an old post, so, any changes that might have been made to
the connector since then haven't been accounted for.

I can't really help with that much since I don't use the built in file
manager - don't like it. But you can integrate CFFM pretty easily which
gives you a lot more features.

Subject: CF Version Number

I'm trying to survey my in-house (OK remote locations but behind our
firewall) CF Server farm, I have varying access depending on the
machine, but I need to get the version number.

Where is that value stored?

Thanks

Try this code:

Product: #Server.ColdFusion.ProductName#
Version: #Server.ColdFusion.ProductVersion#
Level: #Server.ColdFusion.ProductLevel#>BR>

Or just dup the SERVER scope.

Pat,

version.  Info on it can be found here:

It's one of the SERVER scoped vars I think

try a page with and you should see it...it's part of the debugging output.

Of course you could just ask the ISP ;-)

I thought it used it's own java base.  Are you sayin that I have a recent version of CF, but an old version of Java?

dang, and I am just trying to get image width/height and it seems that I need this java to do it.

I'm doing two calls that don't work and I'm thinking it might be the cf

maintain the server itself (just access it).

Do a cfdump on the server scope.

Another way is to do getFunctionList() and see if Wrap exists as one of the
keys. (Well, this will check for 6.1.)

There are a bunch of built in server variables you can use. You might find
it helpful to just dump the Server scope to see them all. Here are some that
should be immediately useful:

#Server.ColdFusion.ProductName#
#Server.ColdFusion.ProductVersion#
#Server.Coldfusion.ProductLevel#

These probably have to do with the version of Java you're using to run CF.
If you haven't upgraded to CFMX 6.1, you might consider upgrading your JVM
to a newer version to address these errors.

If it works, it'll tell you, if it doesn't, it's pre-mx.  I think I'm
accurate on that, but others may wish to chime in as well.

The calls that are failing are:

createObject("java","javax.swing.ImageIcon").init("http://hhp.umd.edu/Go

Error: object couldn't instantiate

createObject("java","javax.imageio.ImageIO").read("a21.jpg")>
Error: method can't be found.

Any thoughts on the version check or these errors is welcome.

thanks.

If you dont have money you should check out something like CVS (there are many
freeware version s and clients for most OS's). If you have MS Visual Studio
use VSS, it you have allot of money use Star Team.

Frankly if you are not using at least CVS for version control then you might as well
not even use anything in my opinion.
