There is an open source solution that generate PDF called FOB. I havent really check it out, I saw it on a presentation of XML on CF. I will post the URL as soon as I get the rest of the info from the guy that did the presentation. RE: Generating PDFs in CF
If I already had Crystal, I would do everything I could to make Crystal work. I've been through the wringer making printed pages work in CF, and the only thing that really worked for me was using COM and Word, but it was a poor solution to a complex problem. I started using Crystal Reports for .NET, and it's EXACTLY the solution that I've been looking for. I can generate any report that I need, but it took a learning curve to get to the point where I can make those reports work. I've got a couple of books that really helped, along with a burning desire to make it work. I haven't use the standalone version of Crystal but I think it's more powerful than the version that I have that came with my VS.Net. If that's the case, then you have everything you need to make beautiful reports. Stick with Crystal, I don't think you would regret it once you get it going. Other solutions I've seen are Access reports via COM and a custom tag that generates PDFs on the fly. The PDFs it generates are not of high quality but they do work. Re: Generating PDFs in CF
Some questions: How complex and or regular are the PDFs you are trying to create? How often are you trying to create them? Quantity? Are you building them on the fly for viewing, or generating and saving them via CF? I have had great success: Building the PS by hand in CF, and running it through Ghostscript to generate a PDF Using cocoon and XML to generate the PDF on the fly for viewing Jerry Johnson >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 12/17/02 09:43AM >>> Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to create a PDF on the fly in CF. I have been told to look at Active PDF, but right now there is no money to purchase that tool, so I was looking of either a custom tag or maybe an article or two on how to do this. We are currently using CF 4.5 but will be using CFMX for J2EE within the 1st quarter of 2003, so maybe even a JSP library that does this would be an option.
