If that's not it, perhaps you can elaborate your problem, with the overview,
what your goal is, what you have tried, what you get output from that code
 and why it has failed?

1000 rows in a database table should not be a problem. I have had tables
 with millions of rows.

Re: hello tags in tiny_mce?

2006-11-10 Thread Charlie Griefer
probably not the workaround you had in mind...but can you switch editors?

i've been blogging at cfblog.com and they have tiny set up as the
default editor. in a recent entry, i had that exact same problem.
first time thru, it works. but when pulling the data from the
database for editing, it was unable to properly render the tags.

cfblog gives you the option of which editor to use...so i switched to
FCK and it handles the tags perfectly.

Re: hello tags in tiny_mce?

2006-11-10 Thread Barney Boisvert
You'll need to add the custom tags to the valid_elements (i believe)
config setting. Anything not on that list will be stripped out. I
believe you can just set it to * to allow anything, but it's been a
while. Check the docs, they've got examples.

cheers,

Re: Hello

2002-10-24 Thread Jerry Johnson
Saw your posts, but since we are still a CF 5.0 shop, had exactly zero input into your
problems.

Welcome.

But looking through the archives, there was a response to your Easy Question from
Kris Pilles, which you responded to in turn.

And just for sanity's sake, you should start each new thread as a new message, rather
than replying and changing the subject. (Which is my habit as well). On the Archives
it makes it more difficult to follow a thread when they are all jumbled together.

Sorry I couldn't help,

Jerry Johnson

OK, thanks for the responses.
I guess it's the topic. I didn't think Solaris users were that rare on this
list.

Yes, your posts are there, but I suspect that not too many people have
upgraded CF 5 on Solaris to CFMX, so no one's answering them.

RE: Hello World CF-Flash Remoting Example...

2002-09-02 Thread Rick Faircloth

Well, it may be because there is nothing on the
movie screen (display) to actually display text.
When I test the movie, a blank test screen comes up
and a smaller dialogue window pops up and says
Data received from the server: Hello World...that's
as it should be.

I guess I need some kind of data display output.
That seems obvious, but nothing like that was mentioned
in the tutorial...

I ran the Hello World sample Flash Remoting app and
everything seemed to be working fine. Got Hello World back
when I tested the movie.

But when I publishing the .swf and ran it in a browser, the
screen is blank...no Hello World. The Flash 6 player screen
pops up, but it's blank, also...No error, either...

Has anybody built this little app? Any insights?

What simple little thing am I missing?

I believe that example movie just uses the trace() function to show the
results in the output window. This is something that is mostly used for
debugging purposes within the Flash IDE.

Using the trace() function (to show things in the output window) does
not work outside the Flash IDE.

RE: Hello World CF-Flash Remoting Example...

2002-09-02 Thread Rick Faircloth

Thanks for the reply, Chris.

I was beginning to realize something like that was going on.
The tutorial was poorly done.

I'm finding out that most of the tutorials assume quite a bit of knowledge
about Flash, espeically ActionScript, and CF MX. I've been doing CF
for a couple of years, but have no experience with ActionScript and Flash.
I looked at Flash when it first came out, but quickly realized it was not
worth
the financial returns to put that much time into eye-candy animation. And
half
of my business is video and graphics production.

Someone commented on this talk list that ActionScript documentation
was weak and limited. I'm beginning to agree. The Macromedia site itself
seems to show Macromedia's view toward scripting tutoring: The best way
to learn scripting is to study sample script. I disagree. For beginners
like myself,
we need basic scripting tutoring that walks learners through every step of
writing
script, not just presentation of a completed script, no matter how simple,
that assumes
the concepts behind the scripting can be discerned simply by looking at the
script.
No matter how long a child stares at water, they will never be able to
discern its
chemical composition, H-2-0...

Maybe I'm missing it somewhere, but there doesn't seem to be any tutorials
that include the most basic step-by-step teaching of what to do and why.

Got any ideas?

RE: Hello World CF-Flash Remoting Example...

2002-09-02 Thread Chris Kief

A great place to start is with these books (watch for URL wrapping on
these):

Flash MX: Training From The Source
- The basics of creating Flash movies and using the Flash IDE.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201794829/qid=1030997014/
sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_2/102-3907469-6840113?v=glances=booksn=507846

Macromedia Flash MX ActionScripting: Advanced Training from the Source
- The basics of using ActionScript. Lots of great tutorials and
step-by-step uses of AS.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201770229/qid=1030997014/
sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_3/102-3907469-6840113?v=glances=booksn=507846

These will get you very comfortable using Flash. Both are very easy
reads and aimed at the novice.

Once you've conquered these, the one and only AS reference is:
Colin Moock's ActionScript : The Definitive Guide
(This is current through Flash 5...there should be a MX update in the
near future.)

2002-09-02 Thread Rick Faircloth

True...but up to this point I haven't been able to find any basic
tutorials for those just beginning to work with integrating Flash MX, Flash
Remoting,
and CF MX. Since this is a brand new paradigm for these software apps,
I would think they would have at least some tutorials that assume little or
no knowledge of any of these programs. Instead there are a lot of
theoretical
overviews of how everything works, but few details. Plenty of strategic
information,
but very little tactical steps.

I couldn't locate a basic Flash Remoting/Action Script tutorial, only
example
apps that don't start from the ground up. Perhaps I just haven't found
them,
but they shouldn't be that hard to locate. Perhaps the MM folks have
forgotten
what it's like to be new to a field. Perhaps, too, they want the
experienced users
to be able to sell books, too. Too much online for free and books won't
sell.
Reminds me of college. If it weren't for the need of professors to sell
books,
the information could be available online, even if for a fee.

Sorry to rant...I just get a little irritated when I can't find information
I need to
accomplish something...

Thanks for all your help.

You must remember though that the Hello World Flash Remoting tutorial
is a beginners tutorial for Flash Remoting...not a beginners tutorial
for Flash or ColdFusion. IMHO, I believe it's appropriate for MM to
expect a certain level of knowledge when teaching advanced features of
their products.

Thanks for the tips, Chris.

You would think, however that MM would put up some decent
beginner's tutorials online...

A great place to start is with these books (watch for URL wrapping on
these):

Flash MX: Training From The Source
- The basics of creating Flash movies and using the Flash IDE.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201794829/qid=1030997014/
sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_2/102-3907469-6840113?v=glances=booksn=507846

Macromedia Flash MX ActionScripting: Advanced Training from the Source
- The basics of using ActionScript. Lots of great tutorials and
step-by-step uses of AS.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201770229/qid=1030997014/
sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_3/102-3907469-6840113?v=glances=booksn=507846

These will get you very comfortable using Flash. Both are very easy
reads and aimed at the novice.

Once you've conquered these, the one and only AS reference is:
Colin Moock's ActionScript : The Definitive Guide
(This is current through Flash 5...there should be a MX update in the
near future.)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1565928520/qid=1030997422/
sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/102-3907469-6840113?v=glances=booksn=507846

Thanks for the reply, Chris.

I was beginning to realize something like that was going on.
The tutorial was poorly done.

I'm finding out that most of the tutorials assume quite a bit of
knowledge
about Flash, espeically ActionScript, and CF MX. I've been doing CF
for a couple of years, but have no experience with ActionScript and
Flash.
I looked at Flash when it first came out, but quickly realized it was
not
worth
the financial returns to put that much time into eye-candy animation.
And
half
of my business is video and graphics production.

Someone commented on this talk list that ActionScript documentation
was weak and limited. I'm beginning to agree. The Macromedia site
itself
seems to show Macromedia's view toward scripting tutoring: The best
way
to learn scripting is to study sample script. I disagree. For
beginners
like myself,
we need basic scripting tutoring that walks learners through every step
of
writing
script, not just presentation of a completed script, no matter how
simple,
that assumes
the concepts behind the scripting can be discerned simply by looking at
the
script.
No matter how long a child stares at water, they will never be able to
discern its
chemical composition, H-2-0...

Maybe I'm missing it somewhere, but there doesn't seem to be any
tutorials
that include the most basic step-by-step teaching of what to do and why.

Got any ideas?

It looks like we've hunted down the problem. People have had the ability to
post all this time. The problem is getting their mail. There's a problem
with the reverse DNS lookup and many mail servers will not accept mail from
HoF due to this. maybe 15% or so of the people on the lists are getting mail
but 100% can post. We're working on it but the DNS changes over the net are
slow.

I think you might be right since you cannot really trace the mails at all.
It would have been nicer if they had chosen some other mail list though

Any luck tracking down the problem Michael?

Re: Hello..quick question: How do I specify which query I want to use with a CFFORM?

2000-06-28 Thread Angél Stewart

Ahhh..thanks.
And, I forwarded the email to the entire list as well..see? That's how you
saw it in the first place.
I only sent it to Mr. Watts because I know he knows his stuff, and I kinda
needed an answer asap for a project (deadline Friday, been ill for two days
this week already..)
*ahem*
But..anyways...

You still didn't explain how I would force the CFFORM to use the query I
specified.

So I have a variable called Querystring that contains the name of the query
I want to usewhat now?

I seem to have solved this myself, by enclosing the cfform with a
CFIF

CFOUTPUT query="Query if GT"

CFELSE

CFOUTPUT query="Query if LT"

/CFIF

CFFORM
CFINPUT name="employee" value="#employee#"
CFINPUT name="department" value=#department#"
/CFFORM

/CFOUTPUT

I was just wondering if there were a more elegant solution.

 CFIF query1.dateOne GT query2.dateTwo
 CFSET queryString = "queryToUseIfValueIsGreater"
 CFELSE
 CFSET queryString = "queryToUseIfValueIsNotGreater"
 /CFIF

Thats it, do this at the top of your page. Then whichever query you need
to
 use
to populate data with just use QueryString.

Okies..problem with that approach.

It throws an error when it hits the closing /cfoutput tag saying there is
no matching beginning tag.
*sigh*
Most likely because the tags are within CFIF statements or something . I
dunno.
ARRGGGHH!
Going to have to do it the long way with a series of CFSET statements.

Subject: Hello..quick question: How do I specify which query I want to use
with a CFFORM?

Hi there!

sorry to bother you, but I figure I would get a quicker response this way
than through the list:

I have a form which receives a URL variable EmplID.

I then select a record from two tables PeoplesoftEmpView and
AbscenceEmpView.(qryPeoplesoftEmpView and another query called
qryAbscenceEmpView)

If the Effective date (effdt) on Peoplesoft is Greater Than the Effective
Date on EmpView, then I want to use the information returned from
qryPeoplesoftEmpView to display for user to edit.

Otherwise I want to display the data in qryAbscenceEmpview to the user.

I am using a simple CFFORM with CFINPUT tags and one CFSELECT statement.

I have no idea how to specify which query the CFFORM gets its data from :-\
I tried enclosing the CFFORM tags with a CFOUTPUT
query="qryPeoplesoftview" but that didn't work.

Can you help?

-Gel
!
This one is kind of simple to work with.
Run both of your queries. After the queries have run
do a simple thing such as...

CFIF query1.dateOne GT query2.dateTwo
CFSET queryString = "queryToUseIfValueIsGreater"
CFELSE
CFSET queryString = "queryToUseIfValueIsNotGreater"
/CFIF

Thats it, do this at the top of your page. Then whichever query you need to
use
to populate data with just use QueryString.

That is real crude pseudo code, but the idea illustrated is a okay way to
handle
the situation you described.
..

A side note :-)

It is honestly best to post to the list so that we can all gain the
information
that people are willing to share. Specifically mailing one person on the
list
asking them specifically to answer the question when, they already actively
participate in the list is not considered really super nice :)
