I used to work for DevX.com where I managed the creation of the DevX
content management and publishing system, which is based on CF 5 and
Java. There are currently a number of "vendor" portals running on top of
the code base now including one that is being paid for by Microsoft
(http://portals.devx.com/NewWorlds/). Sometime in October DevX will be
moving their entire site over to the new code base. Not only will this
be a big win for the CF world as DevX.com is quite a large site with a
lot of traffic, but DevX.com is also the number one online destination
for Microsoft developers (besides MSDN of course).

The code base DevX.com will be using will also stand as a testament to
the potential scalability of CF based applications. Of course my
company's application server will out scale DevX.com's code base by
quite a large margin.

Nfaq.com is using a mix of html and asp. Maybe it used to be CF or
maybe some buried pages are CF, but everything accessible from the home
page appears to be ASP or HTML.

But I don't see how they're related to MS anyways...

RE: Microsoft Web Site Running Cold Fusion

2002-08-15 Thread Samuel Neff

Shawn,

I was just about to say "nice catch" when I noticed you're from the
company running StubHub. Still very kewl that you have a supported MS
site running CF, even though it may not be a completely MS official site
(about as close as you can get though).

Since you are from the site host, can you elaborate on how this came to
be? Was the underlying technology ever discussed with MS?

Thanks,

Sam

RE: Microsoft Web Site Running Cold Fusion

2002-08-15 Thread Buddy

I don't know if any of you have seen them, but Microsoft ran a series of
television commercials bashing Unix. They partnered up with Unisys and
created a marketing campaign trying to draw people away from using Unix as
their server platform, saying it was too difficult and didn't scale (!) and
that the MS product was better. Unfortunately their geeks must have
disagreed because the website that they set up to sell people on the idea
was run on FreeBSD. Slashdot caught it and posted it
(http://bsd.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/04/02/130234&mode=thread&tid=122)
It was quickly and quietly changed. I assume people were fired. I imagine
that since then they have been very explicit that all of their sites need to
use their technology.

What do you mean by major Microsoft site? Do you mean owned by
Microsoft? Or do you mean one that caters to Microsoft users/developers?

To add on to that post, you can always do a search on google.com for a file
extension within a particular domain. Here's the one for microsoft.com:

http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&as_qdr=all&q
=+site%3Amicrosoft.com+filetype%3Acfm

("site:microsoft.com filetype:cfm" in the search box)
