There is an open source solution that generate PDF called FOB.
I havent really check it out, I saw it on a presentation of XML
on CF. I will post the URL as soon as I get the rest of the
info from the guy that did the presentation.

Word, but it was a poor solution to a complex problem.
I started using Crystal Reports for .NET, and it's

I haven't use the standalone version of Crystal but I
think it's
more powerful than the version that I have that came with my
VS.Net. If
that's the case, then you have everything you need to make
beautiful
reports. Stick with Crystal, I don't think you would regret
it once you
 get it going.
Other solutions I've seen are Access reports via COM
and a
custom tag that generates PDFs on the fly. The PDFs it
generates are
not of high quality but they do work.

 Basically,

Some of the pdf are just very simple - printable versions of
pages, some
are more complex in that they are copies of the the form that
you filled
out. Even though we are trying to be paperless, people here
still like
to have a printable and readable copy of what they requested
so to have
 proof in case of questions.

Some of the other would be more complex, basically copies of
what they
current have in Access now. We generate these reports based
on queries,
so I never exactly know what is going to need to be
produced. These
would be more complex as they require a header, footers, page
numbers
and proper page breaks and also need to be printed in
landscape format.

I have tried Crystal but it just does not seem to work
correctly.

If you have any links to what you mentioned below that would
be great so
 that I could start researching.

 Thanks again,

 Some questions:
How complex and or regular are the PDFs you are trying to
create?
How often are you trying to create them? Quantity?
Are you building them on the fly for viewing, or
generating and
 saving them via CF?

 I have had great success:
Building the PS by hand in CF, and running it through
Ghostscript to
 generate a PDF
Using cocoon and XML to generate the PDF on the fly for
viewing

 Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to
create a PDF on
the fly in CF. I have been told to look at Active PDF, but
right now
there is no money to purchase that tool, so I was looking of
either a
custom tag or maybe an article or two on how to do this. We
are
currently using CF 4.5 but will be using CFMX for J2EE within
the 1st
quarter of 2003, so maybe even a JSP library that does this
would be an
 option.

 Thanks
