We have a ton of those consultants and they do not make it any less difficult. They just get paid a ton of money to deal with how difficult it is. Concur. And there are Sharepoint consultants that make plenty of $ to make it less difficult... Re: ColdFusion vs Sharepoint
Most anything with Sharepoint is rather difficult to do when wanting to do something not 100% out of the box or atleast that has been our experience. Re: ColdFusion vs Sharepoint
Further IIRC, Sharepoint typically (always?) has a SQL Server DB "behind" it and there's no reason why you couldn't "touch" that DB via CF (at least for SELECTS)... Here're the pros and cons as I see them: *Sharepoint* *Pros* - Does a lot of stuff "out of the box" (especially intranet/extranet stuff) - Integrates (fairly) easily with other Microsoft software (SQL Server, Exchange, Office, etc) so, if client uses many/most/all of these already... *Cons* - Is more expensive...both for the software and for consulting hours (typically) - Is more difficult and/or expensive to customize (SEE cost of aforementioned consulting hours) *Custom CF solution* * Pros* - Can be built from the ground up to *precisely* meet client's reqs - Is less expensive...both for the software (SEE http://getrailo.com) and for consulting hours (typically)...but client'll need to purchase more consulting hours up-front * Cons* - Will consume days/weeks/months before v1 is done - Something else I can't think of right now :-) On Fri, May 8, 2009 at 2:24 PM, Dave Watts wrote: > > > Can CF interact with Sharepoint in anyway? Can CF interact with Sharepoint in anyway? We have a CF solution that we can tailor to our clients needs...I am not a SharePoint expert, but I guess I have A LOT more research to do this weekend! >The comparison isn't between CF and SharePoint, it's between your >solution (which happens to be written in CFML) and SharePoint. Re: ColdFusion vs Sharepoint
Which is closer to meeting/exceeding all of client's reqs "out of the box:" CF solution or SharePoint? Or are you comparing a CF solution you'll be building from scratch with SharePoint? Re: ColdFusion vs Sharepoint
The comparison isn't between CF and SharePoint, it's between your solution (which happens to be written in CFML) and SharePoint. If you want to compare CF against something it'd need to be .NET (which is what SharePoint is implemented in), not SharePoint itself. cheers, barneyb On Fri, May 8, 2009 at 12:51 PM, Brian Yager wrote: > > I have a customer that we are trying to sell a CF solution and they are > wanting SharePoint.
