Yes, I'd strongly recommend it especially if you're using the "regular" version of Verity already. Yes, you can use all sorts of things. If you're dealing with database content, the database vendor often provides this kind of functionality - we've had some really good results using SQL Server 2000's full-text indexing. If you're dealing with filesystem content, there are other alternatives, but I have less experience with those. We use Oracle Text, which is excellent for database searches.
