RE: Web stats software

2004-06-16 Thread Paul Vernon
We use FastStats from Mach5 and it is pretty good. In the past it has helped
us identify user habits and exit points on e-commerce sites when we were
trying to figure out why people weren't completing their purchases.

I use it on around 30 CF sites and it just ploughs through the IIS logs
without so much as a hiccup.

Can Awstats be used on a Shared server where I do not have access
to install application but to FTP files?

Meaning, can I ftp all the files to a server and run the stats via CGI?

Re: Web stats software

2004-06-16 Thread Doug White
For a windows serverwe use weblog Expert - not expensive and will auto
generate stats from the server logs.

here is a sample report for our user group web site.
http://www.samcfug.org/report/index.htm

If it is a Linux/Apache server there is a AW stats stat program build in which
also can be scheduled to run daily.

example report:
http://www.bsa-troop401.net/cgi-bin/awstats.pl

Either is pretty comprehensive - tracks the indexing bots, and even the hacker
attempts.

RE: Web stats software

2004-06-16 Thread Yves Arsenault
It's been quite a while since I set it up... you would probably have to
check out the site:
http://www.awstats.sourceforge.net

I believe that you would probably need access to the server to initially set
it up.
But I can't quite remember.

I think as long as there's a Perl interpreter installed and you have a
cgi-bin and your log files are in the right format you'll be OK.

You can definitely update the stats over the web as well as viewing them.

A note on this... analog reports are ugly, but when combined with
ReportMagic they are much more client friendly.

Ie, I use analog to generate analysis data in COMPUTER format, then
ReportMagic to output a nice pretty report.

http://www.reportmagic.com/

I offer these reports, but I also offer the sawmill reports to more
advanced customers, because I really don't think that the analog reports
are very comprehensive.

I use pphlogger which is an open source php project that works very well if
you do not have access to log or web server.. you can set it up on your
server and put the script on your client pages...

Dan,

Try FunnelWeb by Quest Software,
(http://www.quest.com/funnel_web/analyzer/) It can handle URL parameters
quite easily. You need to set a couple of parameters in the setup but it
works quite well. I've used it with fused sites with no problems.
Moreover if you don't mind downloading a copy every three months or so,
its free.

Another alternative is Secret Agent.com's Fusebox Log Analyzer for $50.
See http://www.secretagents.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=tools.fuseboxlogs.
I haven't used this tool but it looks like it can do the job.

larry

My site has some URL vars. It doesn't treat the page as different though if
that is what you need. Worth taking a look at. 30 day trial.

they do have subscription service where for a fee they run regular reports
