Plus,

All you really need is the serial, so no shipping at all as soon as you
order in US you can get the serial emailed.

Not a 100% fair comparison due to Duty and GST.

PS: People who sell it in AU might think it's bad if you purchase direct
from the US, but in reality this is happening everywhere. People are buying
direct with low freight and a good $AU its very common, and not just for

What is the current price on purchasing Coldfusion 8 Standard, from adobe it
is approx $1200 USD but they want $1700 (AUD) which is a rip off when the
conversion rate should bring it down to around $1300 (AUD) approx.

We are ready to purchase now, so anyone know a great place to purchase at a

Add me to the list. I've been otherwise engaged and only just caught up
on this. I got a 5 second page load the first time, nicely recorded in
Firebug which I have sent to you off list via a screen grab.

The main thing I noticed was the large number of style sheets, 8!, and
their sequential loading in Firefox, each one taking half a second or
so. No good for a first hit with nothing cached But why so
sequential instead of the usual 2-at-a-time?

[cfaussie] Re: oo.com.au

2007-12-11 Thread Mike Kear

I didnt build it but i've done some maintenance work on it. And i
agree. Under the hood it's pretty good too.

Believe it or not, it was built by people learning as they go. They
built it with the docs on one screen and CFWACK open on the desk.
It's sort of how the whole business has happened. One of the
principals of the business is really more into IT than the business.
It's mostly his hobby that has grown to become his life.

For people that dont know, oo.com.au is a business that sells factory
overstocked items. They have hundreds - maybe thousands - of SKUs on
the catalogue - watches, jewellery, bikes, electronic items .. all
kinds of stuff. They have outgrown several warehouses. They buy
up run-out stock items or items that are overstocked (hence the name)
and sell them through their web site and through their email
broadcasts.

They are innovative in quite a few ways, including the way they handle
customer service. They've been highlighted on tv recently for hiring
customer service people who are stay-at-home mothers, working from
home at any hours they choose.

The site is doing huge business now, starting only a few years ago
from a good idea and the revenue is in the millions.

One of the amazing things about this site is it was built by people
who knew little about web development when they began. Try THAT in
any other technology!

[cfaussie] Re: Coldfusion 8 purchase

2007-12-11 Thread Barry Beattie

I wonder if buying in Australia has benefits other than price?

I mean, that there's an Adobe Australia office here in Australia, New
Zealand now has it's own "Adobe man on the ground" and there's even
dedicated ColdFusion people (eg Mark Blair who put on the recent
CFCAMP around the country).

I'm thinking it may be hard to justify another CFCAMP if Australian
sales are actually U.S sales.

I'm just guessing, OK? I'm not an Adobe reseller...

Im wondering if its because of the way the images are loaded as

Hi Pat,

OK, so you are seeing the site load very slow as well?
Is it like a 5 second pause and then it all starts to load, or something
else?

I thought most images had a width/height specified, let me double check.
What page are you looking at?

In the past (pre CF8), on macromedia site, you used to be able to buy
CF from the American shop and pay USD. Currency exchange is a business

[cfaussie] Coldfusion 8 purchase

2007-12-11 Thread Andrew Scott
What is the current price on purchasing Coldfusion 8 Standard, from adobe it
is approx $1200 USD but they want $1700 (AUD) which is a rip off when the
conversion rate should bring it down to around $1300 (AUD) approx.

We are ready to purchase now, so anyone know a great place to purchase at a

Taco,

Have you run any load testers on the application?

Sounds like it may be a CSS rendering issue maybe? There is a Yahoo
firefox plugin I think that can help with that.

all 4 Adobe-based user groups in Brisbane are getting together for a

so if you're a Flexer, Flasher, Fotoshopper, Fusioneer or just plain

6:00pm (for a 6:30 official start)

lots of food and fun and giveaways, etc so RSVP'ing to this email is
essential to let us know if you're coming.

and ... as it turns out ... the FlashPlatform, QMUG and CFUG user
groups have yet to find a winner for their major software prizes for
2007.

yes, "prizes" - plural, multiple, more than one.

Depending on which groups you've been attending, that means that you
may have up to three chances to win $2100 of Adobe software.

(people can have multiple entries, based on how many times they've
attended meetings. If you've done a presso, you get more entries, same
if you've helped out the group in a useful way - like maintain the
website or whatever).

and on behalf of all the Queensland Adobe User Groups* and their
managers , have a great festive season, drive safe, and see you in
2008 for a huge year.

[cfaussie] Re: debug slow loading pages

Taco,

Technical no, my version of fireFox is even slow in loading our sites as
well. So I wouldn't say that I do.

Hmm, ok, so you are the first one (besides me) who experienced the
slowness... So there must be something going on.

I can't really see a pattern either, so its darn hard to debug..

Yeah,

The reason I mentioned it is that I did browse your site, in both and under
firefox it was slow. However in IE it was fairly quick to load, having said
that it was IE7.0 that I used as well, so IE6.0 might be something
different.

Hi Andrew,

the browser is both internet explorer and fire fox.

I've sort of given up on this, and assume its internal, as no one else says
the pages load slow.

thanks

Taco,

You do not state what browser you are using either, in Firefox the pages can
sometimes be slow depending on what plugins you have installed as well.

We have a site here that we use, and under firefox it takes 3 secs to do
what it has to do and under IE it is immediate. When we use a plain vanilla
firefox installation it is instant as well.

[cfaussie] Coldfusion 8 - Connection Reset Errors

2007-12-11 Thread Rony

Hi,

We recently upgraded our CF server to CF8 from CF7 ( both standard
edition ).

We are now getting the following error on frequent basis ( about 3-5
a week ).

" The connection was reset .The connection to the server was reset
while the page was loading."

This only started occurring when we upgraded to CF8.

The server memory usage seems to be ok and even upon restarting the
CF8 services, the problem still exists. The only way around this is to
restart the server and sometimes works if we restart the IIS server.

I can ping the server no problems but I cannot connect to the websites
hosted on this server.

Has anyone else come across this?

Thanks,
Rony
