RE: [cfaussie] Re: ColdFusion Builder Workspace Refreshing

2010-11-15 Thread charlie arehart
Fair enough, Steve. So again, let's keep moving forward: are you sure you're
running
the latest version? There was an updater, at
http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads_updates.html#cfb. Even if
nothing in
the readme seems specifically related to your challenge, it seems worth ruling
out.

Also, are you sure that you're not running low on heap? Have you enabled the
memory
monitor to keep an eye on things (preferences>general>show heap status)? Are you
viewing the problems and console view also, to see if you're getting any errors?

The bottom line is that, no, it should NOT require a super computer. :-) CFB
does not
"simply suck", and problems like this are not universal. There's nearly always
an
answer, and sometimes something unique to your situation--just as with solving
CF
server problems (which I'll discuss in my daylong class at the conference
tomorrow).

If i untick the the "Build Automatically" option i only get the "Refreshing
Workspace.." happening. It seems to be that the refreshing workspace action
is what is used to do the color coding because if i edit a text file i do
not get either the refreshing workspace nor the building workspace processes

By the way i am running in 32Bit Windows 7 with a duel core 1.86GHz

OK, I cracked open the progress view and I actually *do* see build /
refresh occurring but they happen so fast I normally don't see the
progress message - and it also looks like they don't happen
continuously if I type fast - there's a pause between them so I might
get just two or three build / refresh cycles per line of code.

So, yes, you seem to be right but I don't find it slows Eclipse down
for me (2.8GHz quad core with 8GB RAM).

I'll ping Adam / Terry @ Adobe and get them to provide input on this
thread - including the impact of turning off the automatic build /
refresh.

OK, that's a good starting point. I don't recognize the issue immediately, but
have
you tried the update that Carl suggested?

Also, there is a preferences>general>workspace with a "refresh automatically".
Is that
checked for you? Don't know what it does, but worth considering.

Perhaps others with more experience with your specific problem may pipe up. If
not,
there is also a CFBuilder Adobe forum that may prove more fruitful.

Carl's suggestions seem on the money. As for refreshing, there are different
ways that CFB does that, and some are controllable, but I'm not aware of any
that you should be seeing on every keypress. What do you see in windows>show
view>other>general>progress? That may give a clue. See also "problems" and

As for refreshing, there is at least one form of server refresh that happens
if you have connected your project to a CF server. You can control when it
does that, in preferences>coldfusion>server settings.

Let us know if any of this helps.

[cfaussie] Re: ColdFusion Builder Workspace Refreshing

2010-11-15 Thread Carl
Hi Steve,

I see there is CF builder update1 available, it brings the version to
1.0.0.271911 . If not already done perhaps you can apply.

I have noticed forums mention CF builder is slow on MAC (which
typically I do not use) however I have not paid much attention to the
details. You did not mention the operating system.

CF builder is java based. Perhaps it did not install and provide
adequate resources for JVM arguments so you could check the Xmx,
MaxPermSize etc in "CFBuilder.ini".

HTH, Carl.

i dunno Kai

you don't get arrested for not wearing shoes on your way to the venue.
unfortunately, some convention centres, and some gate guards, will stop
you coming in without shoes on. once inside you can usually go back to
bare feet without getting in any trouble.

trying to get the tram into the city without any pants *will *get you in
trouble.
i reckon you could make it there without a shirt though, if it's a nice
day and you're coming from a beachy suburb.

i'll be the guy without the shoes.
