Hi Dale,

The 2 year maintenance renewal is usually around the same price as
the upgrade - for instance on Harris Technology CF Standard (entry
level TLP) is $1763, the two year CF Standard renewal is $757, the
one year CF Standard renewal is $378 and the 6->7 CF Standard upgrade
is $776. You get the advantage of predictable upgrade costs and get
a chance to potentially get two upgrades for the price of one if you
buy at the right time.

RocketBoots' own Pam (and I'm sure other quality resellers on this
list :-) can normally beat Harris on CF pricing. If you're getting a
lot of upgrades at once you will probably qualify for better volume
discount levels too - make sure whoever you buy it from is familiar
with the Adobe TLP program.

Cheers,
Robin

2007-06-24 Thread Andrew Scott

Shouldn't be too hard..

Coldfusion Standard Full Price Adobe US $1529 (AUS)
Coldfusion Standard Full Price Adobe Asia $2059 (AUS)

Harris Technology $1949 (AUS)

I know where I would buy straight of the bat, from America. Unless your
prices are better.

Hey Robin,

Perhaps I don't understand subscriptions then.

Are you saying that if you buy CF7 with Sub, at the end of the 2 years you
just renew your sub and not pay for another licence?

If so, can you provide sample pricing, Im sure the group would be
interested, ie:

Enterprise 7$
Enterprise 7 with Sub$
Enterprise 7 Sub Renewal$

There are probably a lot of people here about to buy 8 or renew subs, so
would be very useful info.

But the current public release is officially RC1... That was my point.

Andrew,

I know that, but they were private releases, ie needed to be in the beta
program, couldn't just download like you can now.

That's the way I remembered it, but I could be wrong. But if i'm right CF8
has gone through a lot of private beta testing already.

There was from memory 2 maybe 3 release candidates before CFMX 7 was
released officially, over a period of 6 months.

Adobe does have a different release strategy...

My memory was that it never got a public beta.

But was released very quickly after the private beta.

I blogged 1st July, but worst case 8th August.

PS: Robin's comment of being a safe bet that something will be released in

I'm in the same boat. I had to buy CF7 last week and hoping with
baited breath that the new release happens soon enough for me to
qualify for an auto update.
I did email and ring adobe frantically beforehand to no avail. The
sales guys said they couldn't do anything as they have no release date
yet. They referred me to Tim Buntels blog or the Adobe 'pre-release'
forums (which I had access).

Anyone recollect how long CF7 was in Beta before final release? and
if anyone received a CF7 auto update...how long prior to that release
did they buy?

2007-06-19 Thread Robin Hilliard
Hi Steve,

A subscription gives you automatic upgrades for two years. Since the
normal release cycle is 18 months it's usually a good bet to buy a
subscription when a new release is suspected within 6 months. Pam
did ask me about when the likely release was for Scorpio - all Adobe
will say is the middle of 2007, with the emphasis on |middle| (with
the "|" representing Tim Buntel's hand gestures at WebDU in March :-) ).

Support and other Rubbish you don't need, including 2 years of free
upgrades. But it costs extra.

I'd hit Adobe AUS for a Temporary KEY, they have given me one before when I

Does anyone have any info about purchase upgrade protection? I need to buy
a CF server license but I don't want to get stuck with CF7 when CF8 is so
close to release.

Steve,

You need to purchase a subscription if you want a free upgrade, hardly worth
it if you ask me, wait a bit.

try pinging one of the local adobe sales folks, they usually have a 30 or 60
day clause to make sure that people don't stop buying the product ;)
(sales people love commision and products can often put sales on hold...)

Steve, have you emailed Pam at Rocketboots?

there was an early adopters program that Tim Buntel blogged but the
resellers were (IIRC) US-based.
