[Chat] Heart's Place

2010-11-07 Thread Greg Alexander
Heart's Place Shelter on St. Paul Street opened today. I just took a huge box
of sweaters, sweatshirts and several heavy coats to them for donation. They
said they need all the donations of winter clothes that they can get, so if you
have some, give them a call - 410-235-9269. They are open Sundays, Mondays and
Tuesdays.

[Chat] Heart's Place

2010-10-20 Thread Comcast
Just wanted to help get the word out that the Heart's Place homeless shelter at
St. John's will be opening on Nov. 7th. Last year the shelter almost closed
due to lack of donations and funding. So, I'm sure they would appreciate any
help the community offers.

Take care,

Great! A friend of mine in Guilford just turned 40 and in lieu of gifts he had
everyone donate to Heart's Place, which many (including us) did.

[Chat] Heart's Place

2010-03-13 Thread Lauren Redmond

Emil, thanks for the info about the fundraiser. I don't think that we will be
able to go at this late notice because of our 2 kids, but hopefully others on
this Chat listserve may be able to. I will definitely be giving what we can.

Greg et al, I don't know whether they did not respond because they are
overwhelmed with their financial problems right now, but I did contact someone
there in December and dropped off bags of toys left over from our Village
Parents Toy Swap. I had called two numbers-- the church number and then I
found the number for Heart's Place directly (410-235-9269) . I didn't hear
back from the church until weeks later, but I had gotten an immediate call back
from Heart's Place Shelter. They were very grateful to have something to give
to kids who were there during the holiday season. I hope that they are able to
make it over this financial hump and that the Charles Village community will be
able to contribute now and in the future.

[Chat] Heart's Place Homeless Shelter

2010-03-12 Thread Lauren Redmond

I just came across this article accidentally when I was doing a search for
something else. Did anyone know that Heart's Place was facing early closure
due to lack of funding? Does anyone know the latest on this? Heart's Place
Homeless Shelter is located in the basement of St. John's Church at 2640 St.
Paul St. Their closing would really be a travesty.

Lauren,

There's a fundraiser for Heart's Place tomorrow (Sat.) evening.
It's the Open Hearts Ball. Red Emma's has the link:

It does indeed sound like a worthy cause. I was only dimly
aware about the issue of homeless shelters usually taking
only individuals, not families, and Heart's Place being the
exception. It's really cool all the things that happen at
the 2640. See
