Thank you so much, Joss, Greg, and all of you  who reponded to my airport
question.

Brad, you suggested I forego the hassle and just fly out of BWI, but flights to
Knoxville are about $350 more from BWI.

So I think in this case it's worth the hassle.

You are correct in that a fair number of non-affiliates do seem to use
the shuttle. And I myself have never needed to produce my ID either.
However, I would rather not encourage the free-loading behaviour that
we so often see around us.

Re: [Chat] gettting from CV to National airport??

2011-07-01 Thread chad abrams
the cheapest i have found to park at BWI is 7.65 per day (econopark
express).. i have to drive to the airport and then allow shuttle time to
and from the airport at both ends.. pretty good w/ this service as they take
you directly from/to your car.. but.. you've got 15 minutes at least at
either end at the airport (not including transportation time to/from the
airport)

You can however get to BWI for $1.65 by hopping on a Hopkins shuttle to Penn
and then taking the light rail. You get on at Penn and take it 1 stop to Mt
Royal and switch trains. After you are on the 2nd light rail its about a 45
min ride to the terminal. OR from Penn you can take MARC and then a shuttle
from the train station to the terminal.

You can also get to either national or dulles via public transportation.
Hopkins shuttle to Penn/MARC and then to National/METRO (travel time is
about 2 hours). This takes you directly to the terminal. MARC is 7
bucks and metro is $3.65 or so (non-rush)...

If you want to get to Dulles take METRO to Arlington and from there their is
a 3 dollar non-stop shuttle (public transit or METRO-bus) right to the
terminal. So, you can get to Dulles for about $15 (and not have to deal w/
traffic either!)

>From my perspective, as important to me as time in getting to the airport is
AVOIDING connecting flights. In my searches for travel now I include
dulles, national, bwi and even consider philadelphia and newark. I'd much
rather spend the time on the ground here, and near public transportation
that can get me home rather than spending the time sitting in some airport
HUB (chicago, atlanta, charlotte) and running the risk of missing the
connection and not getting home at all. I've heard too many travel horror
stories/experienced my own.
