Solution to this issue is totally simple.
Carefully check the file extension of any email attachment.
If the extension is .doc, .vbs, .exe, .com, .scr or similar executable (or
file containing executable code), then don't open it. Save it first, then
open it with something harmless like Notepad. Scan it with your virus
checker.
Be warned - some virus authors are naming their viruses deceptively, eg:
'Britney Spears Felching
Rottweilers.mpgexe'.
On many screens, the dots after the 'mpg' are faint, and the file name runs
off the end of the dialog box, so the file looks more like:
'Britney Spears Felching Rottweilers mpg',
which seems perfectly harmless (as harmless as Britney might be or not be).
Simply, it's just common sense.

There is no proof one way or another. I guess I can't be mad at the guy
if he didn't intentionaly send me that virus, but I CAN be angry at
people who don't take proper precautions to protect thier systems from
such viruses. GRR!! At least when the virus sends itself to me after
infecting their computer.
My computer is very well protected against hackers and viruses and I'm
not worried about such things getting past my programs.
