Re: [Chevelle-List] corvette rear

2002-01-19 Thread Clint Hooper

Your friend must be a world-class wrench or he is
greatly understating the difficulty. A 12 bolt rear is stronger, simpler, and
cheaper.

  Clint,

  I
have a friend which will sell me one for around $ 1000, I'm not sure if
it is a Dana 44, but it is a Corvette rear.
  Why
do you think it's to difficult to put it under a chevelle ?

  do
you think I would have to build a new floor ?
  One
of my friends in Norway have installed one under his '57 chevy pickup, he
said installation was a snap, well nearly a snap at least.
  I
know a chevelle is a quite different car than a 57 pickup, but
  anyway.
  What
I was thinking is: a rear disk kit would cost about $ 500, or lets say $ 800
with taxes and shipping. the corvette rear is $ 1000 plus another $ 500 in
shortening driveshaft and a new master and small parts
etc.

If you are referring to the Dana 44 rear ends
found in manual trans C4 Corvettes(85-96),the rear cover on the 44 has three
bolts running across the top of the rear inspection cover. Dana 44 is also
stamped on the housing.

Jim,

That's *exactly* the way I feel about it & that's why I'm going
to get on the phone and try to find out which vendors selling bumpers are
coming to Spring Carlisle this year (and that sounds like a good project
for this afternoon while the snow is falling here in the Northeast - glad
I got the Chevelle out for a drive last weekend when it was sunny and in
the upper 40's!).

Trevor, on your site under new and used parts for sale you have a '66/'67
Chevelle air cleaner for sale for a 139.95. The heading says NEW PARTS
AVAILABLE.
Is this a new air cleaner? Do you have a picture of it somewhere. Thanks

Spud,
We're in Simi Valley, about 4 1/2 hours south of you. (I have a friend in SJ
and have done that drive several times)
The body and frame are in pretty good shape. The body is a bare shell... no
doors, fenders, hood, or interior. The front and rear glass are still there,
as is the steering column (manual column shift). The bed has some dings and
some surface rust, but nothing major. The frame looks straight. The front
suspension, streering and rear end are still there. Overall, it needs a

If you
are using Outlook, you can go into "Tools", "Options" and "Spelling".  It
has an automatic spell check built in to the default.  If you want, you can
cancel the spell check.  It should pop up and say something to the effect
of "Spell Check not completed;  would you like to send anyway?"  Press
yes, and VOILA, no spell check.

If
this is not the problem, post it again.  I will look at other
options.  What mailer are you using, etc

RE: [Chevelle-List] corvette rear

2002-01-19 Thread Tigergutt

Clint,

I have
a friend which will sell me one for around $ 1000, I'm not sure if it is a
Dana 44, but it is a Corvette rear.
Why do
you think it's to difficult to put it under a chevelle ?
do you
think I would have to build a new floor ?
One of
my friends in Norway have installed one under his '57 chevy pickup, he said
installation was a snap, well nearly a snap at least.
I know
a chevelle is a quite different car than a 57 pickup, but
anyway.
What I
was thinking is: a rear disk kit would cost about $ 500, or lets say $ 800 with
taxes and shipping. the corvette rear is $ 1000 plus another $ 500 in shortening
driveshaft and a new master and small parts etc.

Re: [Chevelle-List] paint

1966 Mist Blue is a great color on Chevelles.  I Just personally like metallic blues and metallic greens on chevelles and Impalas.  But it is nice to have a Chevelle painted the original color, no matter how dull you think it might look.
