I live in Minnesota, there is a place here that deals in windshields, i
think the name of the place is Auto City Classics, they quoted me a
price of 110.00 for a new windshield that seems to cheap? is there
something wrong with these or is that the going rate? they quoted
165.00 for the rear window. my friend is painting my car real soon and
said he has a hard time taking out the glass without breaking it.
 thank's again! Tom

RE: [Chevelle-List] 6 cyl. motors

2002-05-13 Thread Robert B. King

In the early seventies, I used to watch this 67 deuce at the drag strip. He
was running H/MP (modified production) at the time. The car was a little 2
door sedan with a 292 truck six, trips on a tunnel ram, cam, headers and
some compression. It sounded a little bit odd after hearing tons of open
header big-block cars, but the damn thing always made the trip down the
quarter in the very low twelve second range with the front wheels of the
ground in two gears. I saw him run an 11.97 once. The car was
appropriately named Preparation H.

This sounds like a perfect project to put a turbocharger / mini-blower on!
I think a turbocharger for a automatic car, and maybe a blower for a stick
shift. Another fun idea would be to go with three Weber side drafts. You
know that with a IR (Independent Runner) manifold that the throttle response
is supposed to be fantastic. I know this seems hard to believe but, this
combo is known for its good low to mid-range torque. Three two barrels
would look VERY cool, and I think with a I-6 it solves a difficult
manifolding problem. See lots of people want to slap on that Holley four
barrel, like the V8 guys. The old single four barrel works great on a V6,
or a V8, but the distance between the cylinders is much different on a I-6.
If you try to run a single carb, it is a long distance to cylinders one and
six, and a very short distance to cylinders three and four. The answer is
multiple carbs, a warmed up rod cam, and some ten to one pistons!

I may decide to keep the 6 if I can build it to a semi respectable

Re: [Chevelle-List] Coil resistance

2002-05-13 Thread bdo_chevelle

If you have an ohmmeter (or multimeter that can be set
to measure ohms), put one wire on the coil's +
terminal and the other wire on the - terminal. What
you're doing is using the coil to complete a circuit and
the meter will register the amount of resistance the
coil is providing to the circuit. High-output coils
will have less resistance and read lower on the meter.

Brad

 Brad,
I dont quite understand how to test the coil the way you explained. Could
you please go a little more indept for me. Keep in mind this is all knew to

[Chevelle-List] Re:Subject: Do Not Dial Area 809 ( please read )

2002-05-13 Thread JSLKMS
Hey Guys and Gals.

Just got this from a friend, spread it around...looks serious.

Subject: Do Not Dial Area 809

SUBJECT: 809 area code

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY ATT.
DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE 809

This one is being distributed all over the US. This is
pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get you
to call. Be sure you read this and do not make any calls to
area code "809".

MAJOR SCAM:
Don't respond to Emails, phone calls, or web pages which
tell you to call an "809" Phone Number. This is a very
important issue of Scam Busters because it alerts you to a
scam that is spreading *extremely* quickly can easily cost
you $2400 or more, and is difficult to avoid unless you are
aware of it. We'd like to thank Verizon for bringing this
scam to our attention. This scam has also been identified by
the National Fraud Information Center and is costing victims
a lots of money. There are lots of different permutations
of this scam.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

You will receive a message on your answering machine or your
pager, which asks you to call a number beginning with area
code 809. The reason you're asked to call varies. It can be
to receive information about a family member who has been
ill, to tell you someone has been arrested, died, to let you
know you have won a wonderful prize, etc. In each case, you
are told to call the 809 number right away. Since there are
so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return
these calls.

If you call from the US, you will apparently be charged
$2425 per-minute. Or, you'll get a long recorded message.
The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long
as possible to increase the charges. Unfortunately, when you
get your phone bill, you'll often be charged more than
$24,100.00.

WHY IT WORKS:

The 809 area code is located in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. The
809 area code can be used as a "pay-per-call" number,
similar to 900 numbers in the US. Since 809 is not in the
US, it is not covered by U.S. regulations of 900 numbers,
which require that you be notified and warned of charges and
rates involved when you call a "pay-per-call" number.

There is also no requirement that the company provide a time
period during which you may terminate the call without being
charged. Further, whereas many U.S. homes that have 900
number blocking to avoid these kinds of charges, do not work
in preventing calls to the 809 area code. We recommend that
no matter how you get the message, if you are asked to call
a number with an 809 area code that you don't recognize just
disregard the message. Be wary of email or calls asking you
to call an 809 area code number. It's important to prevent
becoming a victim of this scam, since trying to fight the
charges afterwards can become a real nightmare. That's
because you did actually make the call. If you complain,
both your local phone company and your long distance carrier
will not want to get involved and will most likely tell you
that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign
company. You'll end up dealing with a foreign company that
argues they have done nothing wrong.

 Hi people,

A virus has been passing around and I want to tell you how to check it. I
got it. It stays dormant for 14 days so check for it NOW. It is very
easy
to find and get rid of:

I checked and YES IT WAS ON MY COMPUTERs C DRIVE This is AUTOMATICALLY

SENT TO ALL CONTACTS STORED IN
THE ADDRESS LIST. YOU ARE ONE OF THE CONTACTS IN MY LIST.
We understand that the virus stays hidden for 14 days before
destroying

  the
  operating system.
To eliminate the virus you must do the following :

  1) Click on START and then click on search

  2) In FIND click on FILES or FOLDERS then write the
  name of the file
jdbgmgr.exe

3)Make sure you are searching in C DRIVE

4)The virus has an icon like a Grey Teddy Bear

  5) DO NOT OPEN IT. DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY.

  6) THEN DELETE YOUR RECYCLE BIN, as it is still active
  in the Recycle Bin.

  7) If you find the virus, please send this to all the
people in your address book, before the virus causes any more
  damage.

RE: [Chevelle-List] 6 cyl. motors

2002-05-13 Thread Mabs, Kenneth

one of my friends from the suburbs of chicago runs a v6 under the hood in
his 86 camaro. he has set national records with this engine and is one of
the fastest 6 cyl. around. he recently ran 8.89 at 155.6 in the 1/4 mile.
whoever said nothing can replace cubic inches i say go for it. its neat
to see the looks on peoples face when they see a six under his hood

Hey, my friend did the same thing with his 56 Chevy. Sounds
like a small block and runs with the best of them!!Little weird whe you
pop the hood and see a 6!! but hey, if everyone ran the same thing, it'd be

a boring world!!!

Yep, never ever just delete something off your drive cause you read it on
an email list (unless it happens to be one that deals with computers).

[Chevelle-List] Timing chain for sale

2002-05-13 Thread 396guy

Thought I'd offer it to the list first before auctioning it off on eBay.
COMP Cams #3210 timing chain for big block Chevy. Still in box and shrink
wrap. The cam and kit I bought came with the chain and I'd already
purchased a new Cloyes unit so this was never installed.

First $27 takes it and that includes shipping.
